Yep! my hairs' past my shoulders and I can confirm that messy wild buns are where' it's at, always love it have tried other styles but just come back to the good ol' messy bun with lots of texture/volume. I like mine best when it's really central and right at the crown. Your 100% with having to flick your whole head down to position the hair correctly, then flipping it through the hair-tie. I use large head bands because I've got alot of thick hair that doesn't fit in a small elastic. I love my hair and I can always appreciate a good man bun when I spy one!

I've had real difficulty with this (not just your videos, trav!). My sister put this up for me in seconds! So I've gone a bit rogue; for now I'm grabbing my hair, tying a traditional ponytail by twisting the tie over into a figure 8 shape w/ the tail in one of the holes and then pulling a little over a half (or the majority for a bigger bun) of my remaining hair halfway through the 'other' hole in the figure 8. If you get me? You can actually repeat this, depending on length, 3 or 4 times to tighten as long as you pull the majority through the hole at the end. It's a really basic bun. Not as cool but I can tug at it to make it messier, I can make it higher or lower on my head and if I throw my head forward and tie it there I get like, a lazy top-knot, though it doesn't suit me. Edit: I'm not used to this kind of styling and it was this sort of experimenting that let me eventually nab the cooler bun in the video. Improving my hand coordination, knowing what will & won't work etc

Fourth time am letting my hair grow... there's something with that "twist" move that is magic... my hair hasn't reach my shoulders yet on thus new hair journey... I do that twist and my bun seems like my hair is super long...like...people think that to get that cool bun your hair obviously needs to be long...but no! I also observed that I feel my roots better comfy with that twist which make me feel like it helps it grow faster?...for this I don't know if it's just a feeling or if it's real...but yeah that TWIST is magic in many aspect

I finally pulled it off! I had to use a second tie to tie around the bun to reinforce it (as I used an older, stretched tie for the attempt and wasn't overly confident with the 'flick' - more of a 'lift', ha) but it held all day and I was totally proud and confident. Thanks a lot! ❤

Alright Ive watched this about 39 times in .25, What you should take away; twist your hair ALONG with the first twist of your hair tie. Also the second twist if you can/need to. That's literally all that's different here, the hair AND the hair tie, you twist both at once.

I actually GOT IT! Except my hair is down to the middle of my back so I think I need to pull the hair down further right before the second knot. I’ll try, I’ll update Nope, pulling more of my hair through right before the 2nd twist as you pull over the bun didn’t work. My problem is I can’t find a way to put up my hair not that it’s super long. I have hella wavy, thick hair. Like you said, I wash my hair about once a week. Sometimes longer or sorter depending on how “bad” oily it starts to look. Put it this way, I can look my hair through a normal just bun where you just flip it through twice, well I can flip it through 3 times and make a small hard knotted bun thst I pull out quite a bit and it still stays up and is the messy look I’m going for problem is, even after 3 loops and pulling my bun apart to make it look a little bigger. I still have 8+ inches of hair just hanging ontop of my head still. What part of this hairstyle do i have to do differently because my hair is soo much longer? After. Do it I’m still left with 8” or so of hair hanging out. Alirght well my 5 try to so and I got it. Still had some long hair hanging out but I pulled more of my hair through right before the twist and over the bun, I my think this hair tie is too loose. I’ve got not been using it for 3 days but like I said my id really wavy some cury so I think it’s too stretched out from the way I was putting it up before. I locked it in it’s just mad loose once I let go. It holds but just droops a bit. Thanks bro I’ve been looking for a way to put my hair up that’s not hard asf got the last 6 months since my hair went from a 3 loop and no length hanging off to a 3 loop and mad length still not in the bun. Thanks bro!

Finally! A perfect tutorial. Unfortunately, I just think my hair is too fine for this kind of bun. I try so hard and never get it to look this good. I eventually hit on something passable for what I'm able to achieve, but I'm so discouraged by my hair. And I get so very frustrated with it. Still, I persist. Because I'm stubborn. Because I'm committed. And I truly believe that maybe someday, when it gets long enough, MAYBE it will look decent. But I'm going on year three now of growing it out, and have only trimmed it maybe twice ... mostly to correct the mistakes I made the first two years of growing it out. Saw a lot of breakage. Not seeing ANY now, because I've fixed the way I care for it. But I'm just afraid it's too late and I have to start all over again. It's so thin toward the ends. I don't know. But again, I won't give up. But I hardly ever wear it down because it's so wispy. And wearing it up never looks this good. Ugh. PLUS, I have a very flat cranial crown, so I foolishly trimmed the neck up a little too high a while back to make my head shape appear more normal. Now, there's nothing I can do.

I have butt-length hair. Does this method still work for really long hair?

I remember in a video you explained that the best way to brush straight hair was while it was dry, and curly hair while it was wet or damp, but I can't brush my hair at all unless it's at least damp, despite it being straight and thin. I was wondering if this is an exception or if its possible that my hair has more movement potential than I realize. I don't use any products other than shampoo and conditioner, no heat, and rarely tie it up, so maybe I just haven't been doing the right things? Every product I've used to this point literally makes my hair look the same as if I hadn't put anything in it at all, so it's confusing to me.

Can relate to this a lot. I've very dense and thick hair and combing damp hair is a heck of a pot easier for me as compared to dry as it completely frizzes and clumps up

@@revensaj1712 that's what's funny to me because I'd define my hair type as the exact opposite of that, yet I have the same problem so it's ironic lol

My hair is straight and super thin, although I can comb/brush it dry I find it works better damp. I have found recently that using a sandlewood comb works much better than a plastic one as they create static. My regime, Wash 1 time per week plus a Pro Keratin conditioner then every other day I just wet and use either a Keratin conditioner or use a hair food conditioner. From all of this, I either let it dry naturally or blow dry it on lowest heat and lowest power. I do the same with my long beard and after I use coconut oil on my beard I run my hands through my hair and gently smooth my face to use up any tiny coconut oil left. Sometimes I use a sea salt spray but that's just a styling thing, not a general wash regime. I haven't used Trav's App yet (I have it bookmarked) but maybe it'll help you find other people with the same hair type and see how they manage their hair, products and tools. I don't know if any of this helps but, Good luck 👍

Hi Trav. I have my hair grown out to about 10” long. When I started growing it out I had a comb over fade and my hair has naturally grown uneven. Is there anything that I can do to help it? Also, I have a lot of small hair at the lower back of head and they don’t pull up, can these be cut? Thanks for all your help and vids.

@@zacateck Standard would be in meters, centimeters... thats your standard here. So can you respond properly ? Maybe use body part length... like lower back, butt, knee, ankle. 10 feet would be 3 meters, which i am sure is not the case.

10 inches.... let it grow, this is still super short.

Standard is inches and Metric is Meters. You need to go back and watch all of Trav’s videos. At 9 inches or 22 centimeters as the longest part of the hair, you can begin cleaning up. Go watch more.
