RaceRoom has dropped news of a huge new update for the free-to-play sim, incorporating three new tracks (with five layouts) and four new cars.
First up, we try the fire-spitting Opel Calibra V6 4×4 and Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V6 TI DTM 1995 monsters, enjoying them in their natural habitats of Avus, Diepholz and Hockenheim Klassik.
Then, we jump onto RaceRoom's DTM 2024 Car Pack, where the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo and Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 make their bows, representing the first time the Italian manufacturer has appeared in the sim.
We also take a look at RaceRoom's recent major graphics overhaul, analysing how circuit visuals will dramatically improve once the new build goes live.

Used to be my go to sim with tin tops, but in recent times I think the sim fell behind. This update looks promising and I hope it brings the sim back.

I also think as sim racing human beings we get attracted to the shiny next thing and that’s only natural. I know a lot of people who’ve gone from Raceroom to AMS2. I still race on Raceroom. It’s still a lot of fun but also is one of the few sims where you can race a full recreation grid rather than just one car. Yes I know we have mods on other sims but sometimes they can be a hassle. 😅 I used to really enjoy the full season modes in Raceroom, shame they got rid of them.

The new content is awesome but to be honest I think I prefer the brightness of the old graphics in the comparison here. Darker colors may be more realistic but they aren't necessarily nicer to look at. Maybe it's just bad/ugly weather settings for the new version in this video though. In this video here Avus looks super dull because of the dark lighting but in Overtake's video it is shown with sunny weather, which makes it look a lot nicer.

Cloud cover control is a new thing, so perhaps that will make a big difference to how you perceive the look in each individual situation!

That track was in TOCA RACE DRIVER/V8 SUPERCARS here in Australia from memory. I'm north of 50 so these cars where apart of my youth although I had to get the races on VHS half season at a time 6 months after they where done

There are quite a view great interviews with Larini, Nanini and Kurt Thiim about these cars and how advanced they where.DTM had it all great drivers and racing but also the "bad things" like crashes, fights between drivers and of course Nanini getting back at Ash and sending him flying after Ash hit Nanini before.

DTM was one of the first form of motorsports that i remember to ever watch, precisely in the 90s and I love these cars. Would be cool to have Singen in the game as well, plus, is the first time that the version with the chicane at the Nordkurve is available in any form on a racing game/sim. In 95 Keke Rosberg had a nasty accident at the start of the first race in AVUS (ultimately he decided to end his career as a racing driver later in that year) and the whole field refused to do the second race. Other track from that season missing in the game is Estoril, that's another version of the track which isn't available anywhere in racing sims.

Can't believe no one has really added this to their sim before now. Leave it to RaceRoom to be the first. This content is LONG overdue. I absolutely love this era of racing and especially the DTM cars. For me, the 90's was the best era of racing, be it DTM, F1 or Touring cars. Speaking of which: Hey RaceRoom, how about adding 90's Touring Cars to your platform at some point?

I hate to say, but my main memory of Avus was when Keith O'Dor was sadly killed at, while racing for Nissan in the STW Cup in 1995. Such a huge shame and the other kicker, he was killed in the second race of the day. He had won the first and was such a mega talent.

I never understood people being overly loyal to one sim. They all have something to offer. Raceroom has been my favorite for years, but after after comparing RF2, AMS2, ACC, IR and R3E, R3E is really starting to feel dated. I took the same car and same tracks and matched, as closely as i could, the car aetups in all of them and Raceroom just felt basic and the graphics shoetcoming stood out. Not as bad as ACC though. IR, AMS2 and RF2 felt really close to each other with the cars tuned the same. I own just about everything in R3E, so seeing this update gives me hope they are investing back into the engine.

You are right, all different sims have their strengths and weaknesses... And even then, it's totally down to personal preference. Play what you enjoy, and that doesn't have to be at the cost of ever playing anything else!

I just know Hockenheimring from 'Racedriver: GRID', but it has been terrible to play that because of the bs catch-up nonsense they'd programmed into the AI. - It's just no fun because you can push as hard as you can without making any progress. You can sometimes suddenly get ahead a lot by doing well, but then this whole platoon of other cars will just come up in your mirrors and be right be like they just hit the NOS-button. - Whatever, man... I don't remember what TOCA Touring Cars, also by Codemasters, was like, but that felt a lot more serious back when they were newer, long before anything "GRID" and "DiRT". I mean, I doubt they'd have put "catch-up" into those games, unless it was a setting or something (which was often a thing in racing-games, so might very well have been in those).

QR Lite will limit you to 5Nm I believe. I just upgraded mine to a QR1 to get the full 8Nm!

This would require a very long and detailed answer to try and explain... But the best way to find out is to give some of the free content a go for yourself, as it is free to download/enter! Some people will prefer this, others prefer something else, it all comes down to personal preference. :)

So many cool and unique cars in this game, yet still everyone just races GT3s or the F4. DTM 95 will be just as forgotten as any other car that is not part of the 2 categories I mentioned. Shame..

To this day for me personally the massacring of Hockenheim by Herman Tilke is the biggest and most atrocious crime in the motorsport world. Utter and completely catastrophy. Used to be my favorite track to watch F1, DTM or any form of racing on and when it appeared disfigured and abused in 2002 for the German GP, i can clearly remember, at the age of 15 shedding a few tears. It is the only track i refuse to race on, in any sim, unless it's the classic pre-2001 layout. Every other Tilke "achievement" simply fades in the background. He didn't simply kill the track, he banished the soul.

love the cars, would dearly love to play it, but I've never gelled with R3E, I've had it since the start, but I always find myself going to AC or Automobilista. I think its just that the environments feel dead, the lighting is dull and apart from the live track, it just feels wrong, i.e. not immersive. Call me a graphics whore, but I want the immersion, and R3E for all its great content, just never pulled me in.

Wish the dev had stayed firm on their plan to drag their sim into 2024 with full engine upgrade. Weather and night is a deal breaker for me. I uninstalled the title due to being fed up of dry lapping at times set in the day. With AC-Evo around the corner, there's not enough here for me to change my opinion. Gr8 vid TraxionGG, but the dev dropped the ball massively here. This could be viewed as a half-hearted attempt. Hopefully the reshade will help move RRE from 11th worse game played on Steam in June. Even trackmania beat it.
