@TheNeorch The great Ali, Ali the great was more than just a boxer bro. His greatness, an encyclopedia is needed to describe this man. He was definitely the most intelligent and intellectual to ever be a boxer. By an immeasurable mile. He won the unwinnable because he wasn't a meathead ( Foreman in the Rumble ) Though by boxing records, RM, was the goat within his career and generation span. He did not lose ONCE My favourite boxer, is George Foreman. His sheer power. His longevity Though, strictly speaking by record, RM was undefeated. There's a video where Ali says, of all the previous champions, RM was the best. Clearly he says it. As I've said, Ali the Great, was above all , overall But by his own testimony, he wasn't the best boxer, though he said, quite rightly, he was the greatest

I believe this was Ali last golden moment, last victory. Ali did retire after this fight in 1978, but some reason tied to Don King and a little bit of hubris over the thought of Larry Holmes carrying on as Ali'' successor, that is what misled Ali to make a comeback in 1980, by which Ali suffered a lot. Ali, superman, able to back away from a speedy punch from a 24 year old while he was at the age of 36 and it never touches him (2nd round). He was one of the greatest athletes of modern day. You had to be in better physical condition to do what he did than play profootball, or any other sport. It wasn't just about being in condition it was about being toughened up. The skills it took to not get hit were just as important and being accurate with the punches. It's amazing to see him measuring out this dodging and weaving 24 yr old and then bullseeing him in the head while still managing to not get hit too much. He was the greatest. I never get tired of watching Ali. Most modern boxers spend their whole lives studying Ali.

True but deciding to keep doing this at nearly 37 had horrific consequences for Ali . He should have stopped after the 3rd fight with Frazier he was not the same man after that. At the latest he should have retired after 76. It's the fights from 77 to 80 that destroyed him . Even when he won he took tremendous punishment. By the time Ali fought shavers his foot speed was gone so he changed his style to one where he just stood and took shots repeatedly and waited for his opportunity to strike. He beat Shavers but the amount of hard shots he took was insane Boxing was just one thing that Ali could have done great. There was so much he could have accomplished post boxing.

In my young days my parents always allowed me to let me see the Ali-fights live in TV.. the fights was always in the middle of the night or in the earliest hours of the morning.. l saw all the fights and even today it give's ne goosbomps when l look at this re-match.. l was devasted after Ali lost the first fight, but as he was told the Reporters after the decision that he was not serious enough... but then, this re-match was a completly different kind of Boxing: Ali was dancing like he never did in the last 5, 6 years. I remember that l almost could not believe what l just witnessed... today, we know that he should not fight at all, especially after the "Thrilla in Manilla"... he should retire.. but l also can imagine that he still felt strong enough to go back into the ring and also there was his huge Entourage. And they wanted (and needed) A "fighting" Ali because the big money was in the fights.. but it is history.. l just can't express my Sympathie's and my admiration for Muhammad Ali.. he was willing to go into jail because he refuse to go into a war. He accept the very unfair decision that he lost his title and that he was not allowed to fight in a Boxing ring.. but he accept it - and he came back.. he came back 3 times, and people did not believe in him anymore. But he always makes the impossible real...this fight was the perfect example: noone really believed that he was able to stand on his feets for 15 rounds - but he did.. and how he did it.. Ali is still the greatest and he will be that forever. He was a phenomen

I followed him all through the years and he was one of my greatest heroes, rivaled only by Mickey Mantle ( baseball was my first love). In the years since I have come to admire Joe Frazier equally with his great rival. Those three fights will never be equaled. They finally became friends later in life. As I matured I had to recall Ali's rather brutal character insults at Joe and came to have a deeper understanding of the man's undaunted determination when facing his rival. I recall them now as equals... fighters I will always regard as two of the most fiercely determined warriors of all time. May they both rest in peace.

Absolutely on point comment. Also I would like to mention that I felt deep respect for George Foreman over the years as one of the great three of all times.

I grew up in LV and though never saw any of Ali's fights live, I did see a sparing nsession when he was getting ready for the Jerry Quarry fight, at the old Thunderbird Hotel. It was packed but we got up within a few rows of ringside and the 1st thing I noticed was that Ali was a BIG MAN, much bigger in person than what I'd seen on tv! And FAST, also faster in person. There were 3 sparring partners, one in each corner and he'd slap the carp out of one, take a break, then slap the crap out of the 2nd guy, take a break and then do the same for the 3rd!! It was very ammusing, and he was having fun, but mostly VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!.
@milmil65942 жыл бұрын
The announcers talk about Ali for the first 5 rounds like he is the shell of the man he used to be as the former Champion and how he is too old now then as soon as he starts winning the fight they talk about him like he is the greatest hero of all time..Of course He was always the greatest fighter win or even if he lost this fight ...To suggest otherwise was stupid...Announcers are fair weather fans...if your winning your great if not then your washed up

Ali was a shell of himself at that point. The wars with Foreman, Frazier, Norton, and Shavers, and the previous fight with Spinks, took what little polish he had left. This was his last gasp, every bit of championship character Ali had left went into this fight.
