In fairness, he's likely not the first Cabin Boy she's dealt with that she's whipped into an excellent sailor and man she would trust her life with. I like to think that she senses great intelligence and even greater potential in Jim, something that miscreants like Scroop (that second-rate Clarota-drider mixed-up mistake of a being) want to and will crush like garlic, so putting him in the care of an unsuspecting staff member like the cook could have been her way of PROTECTING Jim from unwanted threats in a suspicious gaggle like Silver's crew. (Though Jim did attract trouble in the end, and at the time she did not know that Silver was planning a mutiny; but when she finally did she was still able to kick butt and Jim was able to handle himself just fine.) And when he was framed for Arrow's death, I was afraid she'd outright hate him and blame him, but she didn't, instead remaining unbiased and clear-headed despite her grief. She is aware that Jim was good-intentioned and had a good heart, something that weighed heavily against the false evidence planted on him, so she can't just accept the false testimony of Scroop. Another thing I admired about her in this film.
@nickthepick8043 Жыл бұрын
@@xyanneabat9493 Exactly. I especially agreed with that last part regarding Scroop. She had a brief glare in her eyes, narrowed with suspicion. I personally don't think she was mad at Jim like you said(Although as a kid I did), she was most likely pondering over Scroop's obvious choice of words. No one says "His lifeline was not secured" if you were trying to pin the blame on someone specific. Any person with a known grudge would outright point to the person they hate. She knew he was obviously trying to guilt him into admitting it. It may just be me, but the production team behind this masterpiece knew how to animate a thinking person behind those brief expressions. Captain Amelia is intelligent, and quite deductive in her quick-thinking. Plus, she knew that if she made Jim feel worse in the moment, it'd affect him going forward in his development. All the while battling her own feelings of loss. And if her suspicions were unfounded, and Jim was still innocent, she can chalk it up to these things just happening unfortunately in dangerous events. All of this in one small moment. Speaks volumes of the team who made this film.

This movie is a great example of how 2d and 3d can work very well together. You hardly notice it.

Agreed. Though after seeing it again after a while, the CGI does look a bit dated at times

I don’t know why but the line “Id love to chat. Tea cake the whole shebang” always cracks me up

Sometimes I think about the line "zip your howling screamer" and get a bit sad bc I'll probably never get to quote/use it in real life without it coming off as weird. It's such a good line.

0:27 No wonder she’s a cat-like alien anthropomorphic woman, she still got some cat-like reflexes. Nice catch

I'd love to see an origin series, with the same animation, that would center around Amelia before she became captain, and we would see the way she did until she earned that title. In such a creative universe, this sort of show would be awesome.

Another underrated female character! Capt. Amelia , Megara , Kida and Esmeralda need much more love.

Emma Thompson is such a great actress, she was fun and great as Professor Trelawney in Harry Potter, and, she's amazing as Captain Amelia

I saw this movie as a kid. There was just something about Captain Amelia that I just couldn't explain. Something about her that my 8 year old mind struggled to describe. But what!? Flash forward to the present. I'm a furry. Everything makes sense now.

+Andrés Pétur Axelsson (Adventure Man) "A ludicrous parcel of driveling galoots", but yeah!
What really has me going about her are those quick reflexes! She had her hand out expecting a paper map, not a ball and she caught it easily!🤩😍

To be fair though, it had to compete with other blockbusters around the same time it got released such as _Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets_ , _Die Another Day_ , and _Santa Clause 2_ 2002 was an overall massive year for films

The animation of Jane from Tarzan and Captain Amelia in this movie were both supervised by Ken Duncan, so it's not too weird that they behave alike :)
