Treating Midfoot Arthritis

Dr. McCarty: Another frequent thing that I see as a podiatrist is midfoot arthritis. A lot of times we can sustain injuries in our youth or in our sports, we can hurt our, the the midfoot joint or the lisfranc joint when we're younger and to date decades later, it has taken a toll on us and the cartilage is thinned out and we have arthritis in our midfoot. So there's different ways to help alleviate that arthritis in the mid foot. A lot of times it's a good shoes, good orthotics, sometimes anti inflammatories, Plan B would be a cortisone injection. The midfoot arthritis as the last resort is surgery. Sometimes we need to fuse the bones of the mid foot if we have some really severe arthritis, but a lot of times my patients are really pleased with our conservative treatments for the midfoot arthritis.
