Wow, I've had the camp ascender for about a year and never knew about the hole for carabiner insertion. I was actually looking for another model that locks close because I find my rope slips out every time there's slack when I'm rope walking. But I'll put a carabiner in the hole and give it a try.

Personally, I absolutely love the low friction of the Jet step as it makes ascending easier; however, I can never seem to get the attachment strap tight enough on my boots. The buckle design keeps me from cinching it down tightly so it feels like pants that are two sizes too large (just an analogy). I usually have to have my wife install it on my boot and remove it because at 43 I lost all hip, leg, and ankle flexibility a decade ago. My lack of flexibility added to that atrocious buckle keeps the Jet step in my bag more often than on my boot. The pantin from Petzl is much easier to put on. I agree that it accidentally kicks out a lot though which makes it more tiring to use.

Nice video. The Camp turbo looks good. I like the option of using the carabiner for a lock or no lock at all.

I love my Notch. I would love it if there was an adapter to mount it on my spurs. I'm finding myself putting my foot acender in the outside of my spurs more and more. This works o.k. ( the straps barely fit. )A spur mounted one would be amazing. And quicker to get to climbing.

Nice video. Can you link the parts used in your notch? It looks very simple with minimal knots needed.

I wish I picked up literally anything but a camp turbo foot acender. Wish I saw this first (im having so many problems with the lock and straps)

my chaffe protector always ends up on the ball of my heel , and size 13 boots i have to max the straps everywhere because they must have been made for smaller foot climbers

Can any type of rope be used with any of these foot ascenders? I have a lot of 1/2" - 3 strand bull rope - will this work with say a CT Quick Step?
@user-ku2qb1pq7e Жыл бұрын
Any rope should work, as long as the rope diameter is supported by the ascender.

I have notch step, but the straps can't be tightened enough for smaller foot size. That I don't like.

What are the effects of the teeth on the rope? Does it reduce the life of the rope, fraying…?

I get, using foot ascenders would be useful when you're working the really tall trees, but you'll never convince this old timer that if you're in an area where most of the work is under 100 feet, tree workers are perfectly good with footlocking.

Nick, why does the jet step appear to be an exact rip-off of the Harken Industries, Ninja foot ascender?
@NickBonner4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's necessary to jump to conclusions and use terms like 'rip-off' but since you asked: When we came up with the idea for the twin-cam, non-toothed ascender and partnered with Harken to design and build it, part of our agreement was to let Harken sell the same design in European tree care markets and in US rope access markets under different branding, thus...the Ninja.

@@NickBonner Thanks for clarifying Nick. I'm really interested in this design, and curious if there will be knee ascenders like this as well?
