I put a dropper seatpost and the battery extension combo. So far the best urban bike i ever had. Thinking about new tires but still looking. Maybe those Continental Contact Urban .

Nice! I just picked up a pair of IRC Boken Plus (tubeless ready) and a Gen 3 Thudbuster LT. Gonna get a few more miles out of these G-ones and maybe put these IRCs on for next year. Also hoping this Thudbuster will bridge the gap and let me get away with this fork because the options to swap it and keep the stock wheels are slim...one that I could find to be exact.

Hey quick question - with the extra battery do you have to charge it and the main battery separately? Or can you just plug into the standard port on the frame and it’ll change both batteries?

@@Pippokpax On the Trek Allant 7 charging both batteries with the 4amp charger works great. A bit warm , but it works.

@@CONFUCIUS-f2x nice, so you just plug in the standard charger and then it charges both batteries at the same time with only one plug into the frame?

@@Pippokpax correct. I'm using the 4amp charger. Don't know if the 2amp version works.

I changed the 42 front sprocket to a 46 . It gives a better cadence going down hill at any speed over 30 km . Otherwise I don’t use top gear anymore.

A Fox air fork 32 stepcast or similar would be a huge improvement for the ride. Do you ride this off-road? Trying to weigh difference between suspension fork or not when it’s only 1” travel anyways. Lots of unpaved forest roads where I live

I believe this fork officially offers 45mm of travel. I had a talk with a few wrenches down at the local Trek store the other day and it's their opinion that even stepping up to 80mm (lowest I can find) will change the geometry dramatically. I do ride a little off-road, but only when necessary. Coupled with the Thudbuster, it's just fine on gravel roads and lighter singletrack. I did just swap tires though - went to a tubeless setup with IRC Boken Plus, which offer considerably less volume than the G Ones, so off-road prowess probably just took a big hit. I even went to a 160 mm crankset to try and mitigate pedal strikes as it's probably a 1 inch different in height between the 2 tire setups 😳. I haven't ridden it yet, but will do an update video once I get some time on this new setup.

My concern is the no rear suspension, and trying to find a nimble commuter bike with full suspension is proven to be a problem.

Yeah, definitely not too many good ones on the market. R&M Makes one, but it's pretty spendy. Suspension seatpost does the trick for me - Thudbuster LT.

@@beaveronabike .. Thanks for the info! 👍😎 Yeah I priced a Riese & Muller Homage 4 GT Rohloff HS and optioned out ~15K. That ~8K Trek mountain bike caps out at 20 MPH. I'm investigating the Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 and 6.0. Though I'm not loving the no top rack mounting. I bought a Mokwheel Obsidian as an affordable "just in case I don't biking" option and for the most part I love it but it's not nimble at all it's basically a moped. But once you go full suspension plus an additional suspension seat I feel like I'm riding on a cloud most of the time even though our sidewalks are as bad as some mountain terrains...

Mine jumps out of 9th gear all the time. Two others I met said same thing.

These bikes use time-tested traditional bicycle drivetrains. Sounds like something on the rear mech just needs an adjustment - assuming chain wear isn't a factor.

Instead of spending money on the tires, buy a $220 Rockshox 80 mm fork. You’ll love it!!

At the moment I've only been able to find one fork that almost fits and it's a 120. However I did find a Thudbuster LT for a song and installed it a couple weeks ago. At this point it looks like it's going to be enough to just keep the factory fork. I bought some new tires at the same time - IRC Boken Plus. The G-ones are decent, but I try to keep this bike on the pavement and wanted a tire more oriented to pavement anyway. Looks like the Bokens will offer lower rolling resistance.

It's a great commuter - that's what it does best. I'm up to 3k miles in a bit over a year now. Time for a new video.
