Gotta love it! The "Barn Years" display has a 1983 Trek 850 "Rough Terrain" bicycle... just like the one I bought then and still ride today! I took my first long tour on that bike that I equipped with front and rear racks and panniers... 3,142 miles. I've had a LOT of bicycles come and go over the years (have 5 now) but that 850 will be with me until my end! Cool Factory Tour!

Ryan -- That trip started on Treasure Island, FL; went around Tampa Bay to pick up Rte. 41 (Tamiami Trail) to Miami. Then it was out into the Everglades backcountry--camping out alone there was a character building experience as things complained about being eaten! LOL. From the Everglades it was on to Key West. Then I zig-zagged north on the east coast of FL and crossed into GA on Rte 17. From there it was on to Charlotte, NC; Williamsburg, VA; Leesburg, VA; and then due north through Maryland to the PA border. I rode east along the border for a while and then went a bit north through places like Lancaster and East Stroudsburg, PA. I made my way to Rte 209 upon which I proceeded north into upstate NY. It was anything but a point A to point B trip as I meandered around the east coast to see things I wanted to see and visit friends in Charlotte. To make it an even more interesting year, while in Williamsburg I got a job working for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Colonial Williamsburg) as a skilled craft interpreter. I moved there after I completed the bicycle trip. I dare say that riding a bicycle locally and around the U.S. has given me experiences and opportunities I'd never have had otherwise. As such I appreciate following your adventures and find it interesting that we've ended up in many of the same places in the Rockies, Erie Canalway and east coast -- including The Smallest Church in America.

Glad you made it to Wisconsin. When you started out I was hoping you'd get here in time for the annual Riverwest 24 bike race in Milwaukee on July 27th-28th. It's a neighborhood run 24 hour bike race/block party. On the video in mid July where you mentioned you stop showing videos of your trip until after it was over, you just made it across Nebraska. You mentioned going on to RAGBRAI. I looked at the schedule and the route ending in Davenport, I thought you would bypass Wisconsin. But you did get to my home state, albeit a week later.

I’m a Trek fan! I had two 830 and one 720... Simply excelent 90’s bikes for touring, specially the 720. I am now waiting for my custom fit made bike that is going to be finally ready in a couple of months, but I cannot avoid having an eye in the actual Trek 520 Disc touring bike. In fact, after watching your newer videos, I’m facing a hard decision on which bike to purchase in my next trip to the USA: the 520 or the Priority 600 with Pinion gearbox... I wish we could have so great options in the exponential growing Brazilian cycling market.

Ryan, how's it going? Once again; AWESOME VIDEO!!! What a wet dream; pardon my french, but you and the Al were at Trek headquarters! So awesomely kool! Well, enough of my ranting and let me get to my main question for you. I'm in the market for a touring bike. I happen to have a Specialized CrossTrail that I currently use for touring, but it's definitely limited for carrying a front rack and panniers. I took a Trek 520 for a test ride from a bike dealer and the Trek was Awesome! I can get that 2018 Trek for a 1100 buckos. Yes way, a 1100 bucks! Would this be a decent bike to tour with? I know one of your favs is the Trek 920, but I was not comfortable at all on that bike. If you can respond to my question I would greatly appreciate your input. After all, you are the Ambassador of biking in a America! 😬 Thanks, my friend! Frado

Is there really a "factory" there in that building? Besides of course the watermelon garden, the climbing wall, the grille, etc.
@zenofthemoment4 жыл бұрын
Yes, there really is a factory. Their high end carbon bikes are built and painted there. There's a carbon layup area, a huge autoclave for baking the carbon, a huge paint shop for the project one stuff, etc. There's way more than that, but it's been awhile since I've been there. It is a real factory tho. 225,000sqft is freaking huge.

Your drone footage is always exemplary. In Pittsburgh, a myriad of restrictions prevent the flying of a drone in many areas. I realize that much of your drone use is in rural areas, but have you experienced any issues with restrictions? As always, we are enjoying watching your trip across America.

Thanks Tom. I haven't run into many issues flying my drone, but I usually know where I can, and can't fly it. For example, I would have LOVED to have flown it in NYC when we finished the ride...but no :(

Michael Hampson Ali’s derailleur was replaced on day 2 because it got messed up when we flew the bikes to Oregon. It was exchanged at Trek to the stock derailleur a month later. Other than that, no maintenance other than greasing chains

I just bought my first Trek Carbon bike and I really love it. I’ve been researching which bike is the best in the market and there are lots of them. From Cannondale, Trinx, Schwinn and so on. Fortunately, I’ve discovered that Trek is one of the best bike in the country. The only downside of the bike that I bought is that the bike’s frame is made in China and I’m no fan of anything that is made in that country. No offense but I rather have one that is made here in the US.

Sold it after putting a new hollowtech crank, front derailleur, rear derailleur, different handlebars and bifters. They have small parts that you can put on where the downtube shifters go and upgrade the cockpit. I could only get 25 mm tires on it. Steel rims and had the best brakes of any bike I have had. Hit a rock going down Left Hand Canyon at 35 mph didn't crash.
