Another fine feature/review/showcase guys. Friend bought one of these ME Lightline jackets. For the sake of curiosity I suggested he enter his jacket’s 12-digit Down Codex bar-code on ME’s website. Turns out the nominal 700 Fill Power Duck down used came from farms in Jiangxi Province in North East China, last randomly audited in 2019. The most pleasantly surprising aspect was that this Duck down has an actual Fill Power of 795, with over 97% down cluster/down fibre. Little wonder he reckons it feels like he’s wearing a sleeping bag! Be interested to see ME produce a version utilising their well regarded, dual off-set baffles with heat reflective scrim construction as in the Baltoro & Paiyu/Trango. But one with the increased Fill Weight & removable HC hood of the Lightline. Well impressed though.

I bought two of these in cobalt blue. Actually, I bought one jacket at first in medium size but it was a little too small for me so gave it to my wife which it fit perfectly. I was surprised because I'm on'ly 5'7" but tipping the scales at 180lbs. HAHA. It fit ok with just a T-shirt underneath but I want a little more wiggle-room to layer if I need to for those days of ice fishing on windy lakes. We tried it on indoors and it felt very warm, but you don't realize how warm you've gotten until you take it off and you're suddenly freezing inside of your 70F degree home...lol! Thanks for this superb video! It gives me confidence that I made the right choice. Have a large on order and should be here in a few days. Cheers.

@@wildside7859The Lightline is warmer, but it depends if you're using it for everyday use, alpine climbing, trekking, etc. The Skyline is far more packable and breathable, so it's best suited to active use where you require a high warmth to weight ratio, whereas the Lightline is a super warm, protective layer for static/slow moving activities where you need loads of warmth but aren't too fussed about pack size or weight. Kind regards, Harry.

Having bought the Skyline from Trekkit last year I’ve now ordered the Lightline from them today. Skyline is great but it’s super light and the lightline looks like it’s going to be the warmer more bomb-proof and critically slightly a more water resistant jacket. The Skyline is definitely warmer than both my Arc’Tyrex insulated jackets (thorium and cerium again from trekkit) and really works well under my Lhotse, Tupilak and Rupal jackets as a mid layer (I’ve a coat buying problem clearly) but the lightline I doubt will fit well under any jacket.

what happens in prolonged heavy rain. does it still keep you warm? does the down get wet and if so does it take long to dry
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 жыл бұрын
If water passes through the outer fabric/stitching it will soak into the down and will lose almost all of its warmth. If it gets soaking wet, you'll need to pop it into the tumble drier on a low heat with some tennis balls; this will re-loft the down back to its original state. If you've got your heart set on a down jacket but need a bit more weather protection, have a look at the Rab Valiance Jacket. I'm either thinking this, the patagonia down hoody or the rab microlight. Which is best?
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. I'm not familiar with the Patagonia, and a quick "google" reveals different versions of a "down hoody", so I'm not sure which one you mean. However, the Lightline is far warmer and has better weather resistant than the Microlight, it's very much an outer jacket to throw on over other layers. The Microlight is lighter (the clue's in the name) and will pack down smaller and can be used as both an outer and a mid-layer. They are very different jackets so it all depends on your intended use. Paul.

Is it warm enough for a 10 Days Hardangervidda tour in winter as a "basecamp" jacket?
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say as, from a bit of research, it can range from -5°C to -30°C during winter. This also depends which layers you're wearing underneath and how warm you are as a person generally. For around -5°C to -10°C it *should* offer around the right amount of warmth when stationary, and you've always got the option to add more layers underneath if the temperature drops any further. Hi, I've just purchased this jacket after much thought and I do feel it has all the features that meet my requirements. I just wanted to ask a question regarding the water resistance. You mention it is water resistant and are confident enough to drop a tea can of water on it but go on to say the water could seep through the lining. My work takes me outside for the majority and so how would you feel it would fend in a torrential downpour? I am playing devils advocate but just wondered if you could advise? Could it be further protected with a simple waterproof poncho thrown over the top? Many thanks.
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 жыл бұрын
Compared to most down jackets, the Lightline will withstand quite a bit of water; the issue is all the stitching. In torrential rain, it'll only be a few minutes before water begins to seep through the stitching, so I'd always recommend having a shell with you just in case. Kind regards, Harry.

Curious how you would use this on rainy mountain hiking days? From what I've read, this shouldn't really be used in any downpours as the rain can seep in through the baffle seams and ruin the down. Seems logical, but can't get my head around covering myself for downpours on cold outdoor hiking? Can't afford to buy loads of coats, was looking to get one down, and one goretex shell, but assume getting a shell that would fit OVER this coat, would be too big for using without it?

The Lightline is one of the most weather-resistant non-membrane down jackets we stock, however, we still wouldn't recommend wearing it in heavy, persistent rain. If you're after something that'll still provide warmth in heavy rain yet will fit under a shell, have a look at a synthetically insulated alternative such as the Atom range from Arc'teryx. The Lightline is definitely warmer (296g of 700 fill-power down vs 170g of 800 fill-power), however the Valiance benefits from a waterproof membrane, so it depends what you're using the jacket for and how weather resistant/warm you need it to be. Kind regards, Harry.

@@maxwardle7126 If you're using the Lightline for everyday use, the chances are you'll never get it wet enough for it to leak through to the down. can u spray this jckt with a waterproof spray.... if so what kind
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 жыл бұрын
Technically you can, but it won't make it waterproof and we wouldn't recommend it from a breathability point of view. Sprays such as Fabsil will create a virtually waterproof layer to solid fabrics, but each baffle on the Lightline or a similar down jacket is connected via stitching; each stitch creates a hole which will allow water to pass through. If you're looking for a completely waterproof insulated jacket, we'd recommend looking at Rab's Valiance Jacket. www.trekitt.co.uk/male?Term=valiance

What is better Lightline vz Rab Pulsar?thanks
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 жыл бұрын
The Pulsar is lighter and more packable, but the Lightline is more durable and warmer. It largely depends what you're using the jacket for, as the Pulsar is a more technical piece. Kind regards, Harry.

What happenes if you get the jacket soaking wet?
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
The down will clump together and you'll get cold, basically. Down doesn't like getting wet, but it will take quite a lot of rain to soak the jacket through as the outer fabric is fairly weather resistant. If it does get soaking wet, simply pop it in the tumble drier with a few tennis balls to re-loft the down. Kind regards, Harry.

@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
@@amaan3657 For everyday use it should be fine. Water will only eventually pass through if you're out in constant, heavy rain for extended periods of time. Harry.

First of all, great review! 1. Is it suitable for walking in town, staying still at -10 to -15 degrees Celsius, when you have T-shirt + Sweatshirt (average thick) underneath? 2. And considering the above, which one is the right choice: Mountain equipment Lightline or ARC'TERYX Thorium AR (I guess ME Lightline) ?
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it's impossible to say for sure as everyone feels the cold differently, but theoretically it should be fine with a few light layers underneath. The Lightline and Thorium are both fine for everyday use, but we'd go for the Lightline as it features more down and a more water resistant outer fabric in case you get caught out.

rab microlight or Lightline
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 жыл бұрын
Lightline is far warmer but less packable, Microlight isn't as warm but far more packable. Microlight for active use, Lightline for more static use (unless you're at a high altitude and require high amounts of insulation).

Hi, great video. What size would you recommend a someone who is 5 11, about 68 kgs, cycling skinny, about a 37/38 chest. Size guide would have me getting a small, but, I'd be concerned about the length of the arms, body then? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, That is a tough one as you would need the Medium for the length and the Small for the right fit everywhere else in the Lightline. I have a better option for you that uses a higher Fill Power Down, will fit you better and is currently costs less than lightline. Try a Medium in the Montane Resolute Down Jacket. It is currently £196 down from £280 and if you use the currently live voucher code " MONTMAS" you can get another 5% off bringing it down to £186.20 Montane over all has a trimmer fit so the medium will fit you in the length and more so in the body compared to the Lightline. It is also a much warmer jacket and with all of the offers in place, it makes it cheaper than the Lightline! All the best, Will
