This ship was in Voyager. Scorpion Part 2. It's a Borg weapon of mass destruction. Seven showed this design to Janeway and Tuvok, wanting to use it as means of spreading the modified nanoprobes over a wide area in the battle against Species 8472.

When I first saw this ship , I assumed it was either a ship commandeered by the Borg and/or Lore, that originally belonged to another race. Or, it was constructed by those particular "liberated" Borg. Either way, I never thought it was a Borg collective ship.

The cube represents the monolithic nature of the Borg Collective. This vessel represents the complete opposite as having defected from the Collective. It would not surprise me if it literally broke off from the Unimatrix.
@Ample17
@Ample17 7 жыл бұрын
Enterprise-H Im with you, it absolutely looks like it is just a part of unimatrix. besides the hull textures. And as you say, the design opposes the representation of order and symmetry the collective stands for with an a asymmetric ship design. A ship designer for a show would maybe think that way.

I feel this ship greatly represents the renegade Borg. The Renegade Borg are fragmented and in turmoil. This ship being a-symetrical and not a unified design exactly represents the Renegade Borg in that regard.

This turned out great. I always figured the odd shapes were a result of the de-connected Borg having their first experiences with independent thought in many years and not knowing quite what to do with them. Suddenly they realized there were other shapes open to them, and they just sort of threw together everything they could think of that seemed cool to them - like Borg writing bad fan fiction. :)

My explanation for the odd design: This is a 100% original Borg ship, but it is V E R Y old... so old, it dates back from a time when the collective was still in another state of collective consciousness. Some of these old vessels are still around, even after millennia have passed... Proof of that: * There is s SYMBOL on the ship (-> different state of consciousness), they never minded to paint over it ;) * The FTL is a PRECURSOR of transwarp. Ever wondered why only this single Borg ship was affected by the return of Hugh? Well, maybe it is because some of its systems, which support the collective mind, are from ages ago. Just sayin' ...

00:55 ouch! Vincent van Gogh was an impressionist. Cubism came later and you were probably thinking of Picasso, Marc or Klee. That was a blow to history and art. I assume that van Gogh did just now cut off the other ear and became a walking dead! Otherwise as always, well done. I love it, as it is asymmetric. Only seems logical as the Borgs only need functionality, not design.

The ship looks like if the disconnected borg were basically working together but they were in three groups with different ideas of how to build a ship. The design also indicates the fact that the they were ultimately were not able to work together until Lore arrived. The purpose of the ship design is not to have a unified purpose.
@CaptainMPXLPERF
@CaptainMPXLPERF 7 жыл бұрын
I always had it in my head that this ship may have actually been once a Borg Cube. However the disconnected Borg crew in their disharmony began to modify the ship in random, different directions. This makes sense to me when you consider Borg Cubes are effectively 'living' ships, an avatar for the collective consciousness of all the individual minds in the hive. They control the ship as one and they 'heal' and regenerate the ship as one. But when you take away the single-minded nature of the collective and replace that with hundreds of thousands of lost and confused individuals. In my mind this is what would become of the ship.

Guys i love Trek Yards but when you're discussing specific small details on a ship could you highlight the part on the image? even if its just a box done in MS paint, or even zoom in and highlight. I think this would help your viewers know what ship detail you mean without having to guess as somethings are hard to spot! Keep up the good work

This ship also appears in Voyager and is referred to as a mine. This leads me to speculate that this type of ship is probably a type of freighter used by the Borg to transport large quantities of materials that are not easily replicated, as such a design would lend itself to being filled with a large quantity of payload that would be spread or detonated by the destruction of the ship leading to its use as a mine. Therefore, I would presume that a significant portion of the internal volume consists of cargo bays. But that is just a theory.

A few ideas. You were saying it is Borg because of the size (more or less) yet the Fesarius from TOS was even bigger and certainly V-Ger was gigantic. Since this ship design has never been seen again in any other ST series, especially Voyager, I would think that more than likely, it is not of Borg design. However, back to size. Borg cubes are mostly hollow if you remember, the same could be true here. Another possibility, what if the ship was designed very large aliens (even assimilated ones)? If a species was on average 12 feet tall, then what we consider as two decks (or 3) would be one deck to them. Certainly the aquatic species from Enterprise would require something this large.
@PsychoStreak

I think it may be a converted factory ship the Collective captured. It had sufficient volume and facilities that it fit their purposes without needing much external alteration. The asymmetric open sections could have been areas they removed during the assimilation (they sample ships to get an idea of their uniqueness) as it made it easier to modify. the piping going from the central area across the arm lead to that blue strip, which I think is an impulse engine. All the symetrical openings could be docking bays that they simply filled in with Borg tech, particularly on the smaller pontoon.The monolithic shape of the larger pontoon suggests heavier shielding for power generation, fuel storage, computer cores and the manufacturing machinery, which would be mostly automated even before the Borg got it. The central comlpex would be crew quarters, labs, command and control and storage. They wouldn't always be able to just assimilate and modify everything they needed, so the Borg would need some sort of manufacturing capabiity. Pop (or make) the gear needed to open a Transwarp conduit, dump several thousand drones onboard, and it's good to go. Given the Borg's quest for perfection, they wouldn't design something shaped like that, but they would use it,
@Sheepwielder

I was thinking design Ques for the Breen later. They used asymmetric shapes too. If this was smaller I would say it was an early Breen vessel.

I like the idea that it's a base, but I also think it's actually the Borg base. We don't know what happened to Hugh, maybe he returned to the core of the Borg collective. And we saw that core in Voyager. So, maybe, it's a part of that huge Borg structure. Hugh and others rebelled, but couldn't get a ship, so they just disconnected a part of that huge Borg structure, added engines, transwarp drive, deflector, and other devices, that you need for a ship to fly, and just went on their way until stumbled on Lore and... well, we know what happened then.

You guys got too in-universe and couldn't see the forest for the trees. It's a design meant to show what's happened to these borg: they're still borg, so the ship is still geometric and organized, but in some turmoil. Hence the offshooting segments and asymmetry. Yet they're being organized by an outside force, so the ship itself is still balanced and cohesive. An emblem is placed on the outside to show the Borg are not only individuals, but they're united, with a personality and sense of purpose. So I'd say it's clear the Borg themselves built it, probably on Lore's instruction. Otherwise, it wouldn't have all these elements if it was some random spaceship they took a liking to.

I hate this ship but I like to think it's an assimilated ship or Space Station (like that Earth ship as seen in Enterprise) that Hue returned to and Lore found. But I accept it is as a specialist assimilation ship as seen in ST Amarda 1 & 2. Plus, looking at Borg space cities, as seen in Voyager, Borg architecture isn't symmetrical, unlike the rest of their ships.

The Borg painting a symbol on their ship makes sense in this case. Because they're not really Borg at this point, they were an early concept of what liberated Borg were, who were ruled by a psycho Android. I see the symbols as expressions of individualism from the collective, so the symbols might not even have their origins with the real Collective, this could just be a standard for these "Borg".

I always assumed the ships odd look was do to the Borg that built it. They lost their link to the collective. They lost their one direction. The ship seems to show this. Also, this design shows up in Star Trek Voyager. 7 of 9 (Before her liberation) was helping Janeway work on a weapon to kill S-8472. The computer monitor displaying the weapon is this exact design. I don't know if it was a nod to TNG but it was used.

I feel like The Borg Renegade ship was only partially borgified, sort of like how the Sovereign was infected with Borg Nanoprobes and the technology was slowly being assimilated and Borg technology was growing inside of it and that it's still mostly just an alien ship taken from a race they assimilated, because from what we've seen of every Borg ship they all eventually just turn into specific simple shapes, nothing of this complexity, it's why you don't see any other alien ship within the Borg Collective, or if you do it's only temporary, because they all just eventually become Borg Cubes, spheres or probes due to the Borg conversion process, the collective don't keep the original shape of the ships, the Renegade ship was perhaps being turned into a cube given it's size before it went "renegade"

It is like a Star wars ship. Lots of asymmetrical Star Wars ships. And most likely a Borg design, for two reasons. 1) Symmetry likely serves no purpose to their way of thinking. It is human (and other sentients) nature to try and make things symmetrical. The Borg, or even Lore, would probably design something like this. 2) Symmetry is important to warp field theory. Positioning of everything effects warp fields, and ships have their geometry designed with warp fields in mind. Borg use transwarp conduits. Geometry probably matters a lot less (if at all.) I feel like this is a ship designed by Lore using Borg tech.
@mikestoast
@mikestoast 7 жыл бұрын
I loved this ship, i always took it as a vessel that the borg assimilated. Perhaps a planetary transport or a colony ship maybe even a space station. I also took this ship to be bigger than a Cube, at least equal in height and 2-2.5 times in width. The notion that the Borg would have their own ship design always felt strange, this is a 'collective' that assimilates and takes the tech of others; that should include the ships. A specific Borg designed craft should be rare, used only for specific needs. If anything they should not have an aesthetic, that even a Cube should have come from another race and been another assimilated ship. Of course, that is without bringing up the ridiculous nature of the borg from a logic standpoint and how they have not taken over the whole quadrant within 100 years or the entire galaxy. Warp in assimilate a group move onto the next and repeat, they should expand at an near exponential rate. There should never be a lull in their quest for assimilation since that is their Modus Operandi.

I have a notion, and let me apologize if this was brought up before, but maybe it's not a Borg ship per say, but is an ancestral ship; I.e. its a remnant from The original or one of the original civilizations the Borg ever assimilated. It wouldn't necessarily have the same design esthetic because it predates the Collective. Any thoughts?

There are two possibilities :It's an assimilated ship of some random delta quadrant species that the borg feeded with nano probes and other borg technologies : It is a ship lorr and his crew captured from some random delta quadrant species that used borg technology to build their own ships (such as the romulans did on the narada even if it doesn't look borgish anyway)

Flathead Gg244 good ideas but I think there are more than just two possibilities. ;)

what i think it most likely is the start point for a borg cube where they took large captured ships and put them together to act as a framework for a borg cube

I always assumed the Renegade ship was an alien craft that they found & assimilated. Back when Voyager was still on, I invented a likely history for them. I imagined that Species 01 was called the Borg, & valued perfection. Several factions approached the pursuit of perfection differently; & one of them sought it thru cybernetic enhancement, & apparently decided that emotions & individuality were weakness, so they created the first neural link. Unfortunately, they miscalculated; & the behavioral imperatives which were supposed to INFORM their collective decisions instead enslaved them. Instead of the individuals being in control, their individuality was completely squashed. Since the cultural drive to perfection was still a major part of their thoughts, the new drones promptly assimilated the rest of their species. Interstellar allies were the next to be assimilated, as the Borg continued to evolve their technique, & to acquire & assimilate new technologies. Over time, the Borg continued to adapt & evolve. Assimilation techniques changed. Ship designs became geometric. I never really accepted the "Queen" as hierarchial leader, so I imagined she came about as the collective solution to some problem: possibly as a voice to the collective will. Once they had plugged a member of the right species into the function, they made a point of always using that species. Maybe the reason it's always FEMALE is that the species evolved with subordinate men. If the females are the strong-willed, clever intellectuals, they're the obvious choice.

Apparently ship design is credited to Dan Curry.

I always assumed it was an assimilated ship, most of its surface doesn't have the same exposed innards and its not green/black but white/blue.

Aren't the Renegade Borg like linked some what?, like in the episode I remember a borg dragging another borg to lore and giving out to him for disconnecting himself from the others, and lore says by joining with the others that they will give him strength. So like if they are in some kind of Collective state like the Borg Cooperative, they could've built or assimilated the vessel in harmony?

Aww. :( Would love to see it featured. I think Ben Robinson also teased an Eaglemoss model for it as well.

Dot Matrix I kind of dig the Yeager and its unique way of integrating the nacelles partially into the hull but not quite to the extent of the Defiant. crossing fingers!

I always assumed it was a ship that was taken by them or found by Lore Lore had been a part of an ancient alien entity for some time and probably picked up some knowledge of alien races we have not seen yet or n=maybe died off long before
