This is one of my favourite Star Trek ships. It was EXTREMELY underused in Star Trek especially considering how cool the design was.
@toddsmitts4 жыл бұрын
True, but given that they didn't really pan out as major antagonists on TNG, like the Romulans did, and were never really depicted on DS9 as a major power, like the Cardassians were, there wasn't much need for a Ferengi ship that size.

I've always liked the Ferengi Marauder, even though when I first saw it, I thought it looked like a sliced mushroom lol. However, after seeing all of its capabilities I quickly became a huge fan of this ship. Thanks for the video.

I always liked the design for being different than other trek ships. The different classification terminology could refer to how armed the ship is. A trade ship having less weaponry than the warship but the same size and layout.

I always liked that reveal of the ship with the slow turn and then the pincers show up out of seeming nowhere. I don't think they ever really got a good handle on the Ferengi until DS9. They seemed to not really know what they wanted. Are they traders or are they pirates/priveteers (which are different, by the way)? Because how you react to others is different with each. If you're a pirate you want to be agresive and on the attack because anyone you come across will want to attack you because you are bad news. If you're a trader, you want the other side to like you and to invite you in so that you can show off all the cool stuff you can sell. People like to trade with people they like. I can actually see how there could be a scavenging service specifically designated to find uncincidered trifles and bring them back to a Ferengi colony for processes into something can be sold, but even then, aggression would seem to be counterproductive. "Oh, this was YOUR satallite. Well, we won't charge you a recovery fee. It was just floating out there, no one to look after it. A little something for our trouble, just to cover costs would be nice, though." It does make you wonder if something had happened to the Ferengi to make them so hostile or if something happened to decrease their hostility. Maybe they had been trading with species that liked and trusted aggression and needed some time to get used to humans. When dealing with Vulcans, maybe they pretended to be emotionless. What had happened? We may never know.

This has always been one of my favorites. I figured it was something like 500 meters long based on all the small windows...but it is what it is. And yes, Capt Foley, imho I think the gold on your model works quite well.

When I first saw it, the Marauder kinda looked the size of the Enterprise. Probably a weird perspective thing from the first episode. Interestingly enough, the 'surrendering' posture was reused in Star Trek Online as a "Battle Mode". Great episode. I might have to drop some cash on your Patreon and request some of those weird Breen designs looked into.

@@whatever-id6cw If my understanding of American politics is correct, the Democrats are a left-wing party, the Ferengi - however - were intended by Roddenberry to satirise right-wing capitalist values like free-trade and obsessive acquisition of wealth. This is further supported by the fact that Roddenberry himself had left-wing beliefs. This being so, they are likely to have been intended to be closer to more right-wing political party, something like the British Conservative party, to which I believe the American equivalent is the Republicans.
@ENiceGeo5 жыл бұрын
@@samuellawrencesbookclub8250 Once they started showing the Ferengi development towards unionizing, Rom being head of a Zek's charity and then to Rom being chosen as the next Nagus for instituting reform, you can easily see how much corruption will occur in the name of helping the people. So, they'll still be just as money grubbing and corrupt as before.

With ships like this I'll never understand why the Ferengi weren't involved in the Dominion war.. especially since Ferengi space is supposed to be wedged in between the federation, the breen, and the Cardassians... And no Gorn, Tholians, or any of the many other races..
@samuellawrencesbookclub82506 жыл бұрын
They probably didn't get involved, at lest not in an official capacity, because they wanted to be on decent term with the victors, whoever they might be, so that they'd be able to trade with them. Additionally, the political situation on Ferenginar at the time of the Dominion War was quite unstable - you'll recall the massive social reforms that were occurring at this time - the Ferengi government was probably too concerned with internal affairs to want to get involved with the Dominion War
@chunt55843 жыл бұрын
The ship has good design and decently outfitted all around. It is a great ship for any privateers who are interested in only themselves, plus it can show up in any star system and not raise attention: "ha is a me, a humble trader!" *Double check to make sure hologram filter is set to Ferengi"

I read in one of the old Star Trek: Dominion Wars novels that the Ferengi Marauders were the fastest ships in the Federation, and that they could outrun the Dominion vessels. I thought it was kind of established that they obtained the technology to travel so fast from other sources, and believed it was necessary for for business. It's been a while, but there were 4 books in the series.

The top speed of a Marauder was actually Warp 9.2 (Which is Enterprises Max speed) This was stated as the "RED LINE" and they wen to 9.6 which was held for 12 hours. This is not a max speed but a Sprint/Emergency speed. Great Episode: I didn't know about the articulation weapons port

@NickJizba9 жыл бұрын
I think the larger size does make sense for a raiding and trading vessel. A bigger ship means more room for loot, and more opportunities to move things in bulk. It would make it easier to raid convoys and steal cargo, easier to remove everything of value from undefended colonies and primitive worlds... the investment in a bigger ship would almost pay for its self. The windows match the smaller size better though.

if people didn't want ships to be noticable, why wouldn't they just paint them pitch black?
@Cragified6 жыл бұрын
Color really means nothing truth be told. A ship would be radiating so much Infra red that it would glow on any infrared detectors this is one of the ways we can spot asteroids that are against dark backgrounds because even though they may have a low albedo and don't reflect much visible light they are of course absorbing it and then radiating that thermal energy off in the infrared. Think of it as more a status and symbolism choice. A red car for example tends to get more tickets then a brown or white car, because it is noticed more. In their original 'piratical' inspiration the Ferengi wouldn't want to be overly noticed or suspected to be a threat or wealthy until they struck.
