I mean, from an adult collector's perspective, it's definitely a win-win for someone who's got a thing for Star Trek and has fond memories of playing with Playmobil as a child. I do not mind the beefier saucer section at all, since I do fancy super-deformed (chibi) stuff a lot.
@avenuePad3 жыл бұрын
It's actually really cool. I can't justify throwing down that kinda coin on something like that, but I wouldn't hold it against anybody who does. I actually like the out-of-scale aspect of it. It's Playmobil. I loved Playmobil as a kid, but never had a lot of it, as it was so expensive. I personally would love having this in my man cave. I just think that you have to like Playmobil. This isn't supposed to be an exact replica of the Enterprise.
@Riceball013 жыл бұрын
I'd cut them some slack on the accuracy of the design, It's a Playmoble toy and they're obviously going for a more toy-lilke aesthetic. Plus, as I believe you mentioned in your first review, they needed to make compromises in the design in order to accommodate the figure., They probably could have made it more realistic but it would have likely meant that the figures would barely fit with the top on or they''d have to make the thing even larger (and expensive) in order to accommodate the figures but in a more realistic styling/proportions. The one thing that I do think they should have done was make it so that you open the shuttlebay doors so that the shuttlebay could be used for storing the extra dilithium crystal and the tribbles. The shuttlebay would have been the perfect spot for extra storage since that space is probably largely empty.
@johnblack98853 жыл бұрын
Obviously the shuttle bay is way out of scale but I do hope they offer a Galileo shuttlecraft as well as a Transporter room and Medical playsets as companion pieces for this.

My issue goes down to the fact that it's too big to be a kid's toy it's a collector's item a rare collector's item but a collectors item nonetheless the construction of it with the exception of the app and a few other things seem to greatly mirror the '90s technology Playmobil used so it would be nice to see them take a little bit of a step forward for instance it's nice that they have a slot for your smartphone but for $500 they should be able to include at least a cheap LCD screen that could turn on.

I've said this before: it looks to be pretty awesome. I give playability a B-. The bridge is pretty cool. Engineering is pretty cool. The loss of dilithium effect is top notch. Communicators, phasers, tricorders, and medical hyposprays all beg for a transporter. This set could have included a "Jefferies Tube" in one of the nacelles. A miniature shuttle in the back, the size of a Tribble, could have been included for imaginative play and a greater suspension of disbelief. This goes great with the other space sets. By itself....I think it is a solid B-. I think the Saucer looks great for a toy. If this is the first of a number of sets, I will lose my mind. The engineering hull is fun. Dude, you need to let the shape of the Saucer go. This is not a 350th scale Polar Lights Round 2 exact detail model. It's a toy. The Polar Lights $650.00 model seems way overpriced to me where $500 for this makes sense.

First off - my kids are spoiled. They all have voluntarily watched (to my surprise) most of the ST series from TOS to Voy. My 10yr old would love it, he and his brother share a loft and for now he would have a place to display and play with it. If we lived anywhere else it wouldn't work. The cost of oversized toys is at a premium for sure, but compared to what I spend on kits and Hot Toys it's not comparatively over expensive.
@moonytheloony65162 жыл бұрын
This was a pretty good review, however, you've put way too much scrutiny into the saucer shape. It's designed for Playmobil therefore the compromise should be expected and understood. That's how Playmobil generally do things with their play sets. This ship is absolutely worth the money if one can afford it, because of not only the detail but the also the technology put into it. The sounds appear to be spot on and the lighting is stunning. The important thing when reviewing a product line this is threading the Playmobil dynamic within the review. If one really wants a perfect or near-perfect (and interactive) saucer exterior with an interior, then ya better hope LEGO develops the Enterprise in their high-end collector series models that have given us the Death Star, Executor, Millennium Falcon, Slave 1, and Imperial Star Destroyer. All of which are rather expensive.

1 minute in: "This is the shorter review" Looks at the video length...48 minutes... :D Thanks for the shortened review. It is really damn cool. Also really damn big. As a playset it has some nice touches, and even opening it up to look at the bridge and engineering, you can get a nostalgic feel from it, playing scenes in your head without even playing with it. A missed opportunity though to be able to replace the crew's heads with the tribbles (from a kid's play perspective). The sounds are good, not so tinny from the video, but is there a volume control? Interesting that both questions were about the M5 though, is there more trivia? I like the differing opinions. One would have to balance the physical space available in their home with the cost of the collectible to determine its real value. Again, thanks for the review!

I agree with Sylvia. For an adult collector, $500 doesn't surprise me, especially if you can hang it. Plus if they only make a few thousand of them, once they go out of production they will sell for a LOT more than $500. This smacks of some of the old Star Wars toys.

I showed this to my wife as she asked what I wanted for Christmas. She said OK and then she saw the price and in a high pitched voice loudly said “That is $250?” in which I laughed and said it was originally $500. At the end of the day she threw in $150 so I am getting this absolutely fantastic piece for $100 of my own money and a great 2023 Christmas gift that I will remember for years to come. Would I had purchased this at the $500 price? No, not because I do not like it just that $500 is more than I was willing to spend but at $250 I would have purchased this myself. If anyone is reading this remember to purchases this set and sets like this around Christmas as Playmobil usually run 50% off sales leading up to Christmas (this is Christmas of 2023). Enjoy this set if you do indeed pick it and remember to live long and prosper.

I liked how you compared it to your model. One is a toy, sold as a collectable and isn't suitable to be either and the other is a piece of art, suitable for everyone.
@daxbashir62323 жыл бұрын
Well, "the other" is definitely not everyone since you would not give it to your under-12 kids to play and fool around with it as they often do, ain't that right? Plus, who has that "collectables" must always be screen-accurate? Have you ever heard of Chibis and Funko Pops, for example?
@dionysislarson63523 жыл бұрын
@@daxbashir6232 If the choice is between the two, yes I would prefer to "give" the model to under-12 kids to play with instead of the 470.00 euro "toy". For one is the price difference, the model is a quarter of the cost. The second reason is for repair issues. For the 470.00 euro "Toy", with all of its programming, more than likely, I'd have to send it back to Playmobil for repair and still need to cover the costs. With the quarter of the cost model, with the same skill and material that I put into building it in the first place, I could use again to repair it. And it would be my joy to do so. However, there are many developmental stages between the years of 0 and 12, so fine, I'll retract my highly hyperbolic term of "Everyone". I'm sure that for a 0-2 year old, I'm more than likely to go for a third option than to stick with the overly imposed position of "choosing" between two hard and heavy plastic structures and go for a plush toy sorta thingy. Plus, why did you use the word "Plus", in your second question? I didn't say anything about a collectible needing to "Always be screen accurate". I'm pretty sure that Capt. Foley would never say such a thing either considering that he's showed his collection many times and he's collected many things, as have I, that isn't screen accurate. But in answer to your question, nope I've never heard of Chibis. I have heard of Funko Pops although, I don't know their product lines. If I had to guess, I'd say that they made Pop Tarts or Lolly Pops.

This item was NEVER intended to be marketed as a toy to the 6 to 12 years as most playmobil items are designed. This is intentionally meant from its very beginning as a collector item for adults 1) by its costs 2) by its size 3) by its complexity in set up 4) its pattern -- being the classic 1960s version instead of the re-design shown in Discovery clearly meant to exploit nostalgia If you are a fan of the Shatner series and have the shelf size it is a cute toy to sit on your shelf to LIGHTLY share with your grand-kids as they will BANG on it If you are a serious fan of the Shatner series pass on this and get a more accurate high end model if that is your goal

Lol, you did the whole video not wanting to like anything about it. The best part of the video is your admiral. I'm both a Playmobil and a Trek fan. The main thing I wish they had room for was the transporter room. As a Playmobil fan, I would have wanted more accessories (though not sure what right now besides some foamy rocks and maybe a Gorn or something for conflict. I thought of the tribbles before I knew they were included, so that's awesome, and you definitely need a bunch. It would be dumb to just have one or two. Don't know why they have a hole in the bottom though. Playmobil is usually great at not showing holes in the bottoms of accessories unless there's a purpose). Tribble closet would have been great to store tribbles in and have them fall out (quite surprised they didn't put any in (there's usually lots of storage cupboards in Playmobil structures anyway). I think they were trying to aim at the Trek collectors with so much emphasis on the lights and tech and making it like a model. That's not really my thing so I hope they do Next Gen in the future and really accessorize like crazy that make references to episodes (I can already picture borg Playmobil). I like the Playmobil look and the ship needs to fit the figures well, so the less accurate proportions don't bother me at all. It is cool that it can hang overhead, but hopefully it's also easy to take down and put back up so that you can see the figures, etc. It would have been cool if instead of a big ship, they went with individual rooms that could connect in a modular way (and then people wind up spending a lot of money, but incrementally). So, sets could be: bridge in a saucer, engine room, transporter room, Captain's quarters, away mission set. I was actually hoping the other side of the engine room would have the transporter room but it probably doesn't fit because of the electronics. For me, I would rather not have any electronics (except for the three sounds in the bridge) and have more "play" space (transporter room or even the quarters). Playmobil makes a lot of modular dollhouses, but this is limited by the shape of the Enterprise. Though it does make total sense to make a big ship that makes the sounds and lights up and fits all the main crew so hats off to them for this ambitious set. It seems like it would have to cost pretty close to $700 (CAD). It's too bad the free one is wasted on you since you don't really like it. I hope you can give it away to someone who really loves it. There are a lot of cool things about it. And part of the fun of these sets now is the build and putting all those stickers on (for some people). Otherwise, the designers could just package it all built up, but they're made to have some bits to assemble as part of the play. I haven't watched the build video, but I can tell by the way you interacted with the final product that you probably didn't enjoy that, but probably someone out there would want the finished thing. Don't sell it as it was a free gift from the company. Make someone happy instead.

I agree with both of you..... I agree that this is a decent collector's piece. It is something I can display AND play with!! (Of course, not carrying it up and down the stairs as if I am holding a jet fighter!) I also agree that the price point is a bit too high. I am sure it takes a lot, like retooling and stuff like that, to bring this product to life. However, for a Playmobil toy, I would pay USD$250 at most $300 for it. The size is also an issue. No space, even if I were to hang it! In 2013 or so, I bought the Hasbro Kreo Enterprise and collected all the members on the bridge. So I do have a smaller Kreo version of the new Enterprise with minimal light at the nacell. If Playmobil would make the Enterprise NCC 1701-D (TNG) and lower the price point without diminishing the features, I would seriously consider getting it!

It is a HUGE *TOY* for the price. Comparing it to the Playmobil BTF Delorian, the playability is about the same for a child. I don't understand the reason for this toy. It looks like a toy and its $500. If anything, what I think would be cheaper for a pre-built large 1/350ish scale TOS is to have it hollow with lights for about $250 would sell easier. The PL 1/350 kit can be had for $150, even a novice can simply mask a few areas and spray some paint from some rattle cans, apply decals to get a nicer-looking enterprise. Now, let's put it in perspective of today's costs. Hasbro made the Legacy Falcon around 2008 for $125. It's a HUGE toy with tons of features and lights. It was going for $80~1000 new on Ebay. About $300~400 used. Hasbro released the Solo Falcon in 2018 for $100. It wasn't even half the size of the Legacy. The cockpit could only hold 1 figure, and another figure could lay down in the back.... yeah, fun. NOT! Yeah, it did not sell well at all. It was a BAD toy design, not worth it. Disney re-released the huge Falcon toy for $400. It's very expensive compared to the original $125 price. But its a lot cheaper than $800+ on Ebay. For $500, adding about 7 or 8 LEDs to light windows wouldn't cost that much more to add. A light channel would light up the side panel when attached (use a flip panel to cover the LED bulb or switch to turn off the LED when the cover is off.) The BTF Delorian looks very good for a toy. I think this Enterprise toy could have been done a little bit on the saucer. It's a tough sell.

Then one day, they were ALL GONE. :( Some people posted about getting them for $25~$50 each depending on the store and how fast the employee just wanted get rid of them. $25?! Of course, he still plays with that Falcon toy and I've gotten on the floor and we'd play together. Chase him with it too. :P The landing gear is the worst thing about it. They "plug in" and eventually get worn out. I wished the rear engine cover came off and they made it into an engine room. More than enough room to put AA batteries off to the side. If you got kids, enjoy it with them. Seems to sell for $600~800 new on Ebay for some reason. By the time it's worth $5000, you'd have passed on from old age. :)

@daxbashir62323 жыл бұрын
The ENT from Mega Bloks is the same size as the model kit Captain Foley compared it to up here, so that means that the Playmobil ENT is even larger than the one from Mega.

The sheer size of the model and the care they went into the little things, make this a pretty cool thing to get your children(or big kid at heart) for Christmas.
@generalgrievous6963 жыл бұрын
I see sort of two problems with getting it as a gift for kids unless your kid is grown it's going to be very hard for a kid to try and lift this up and swish it around like a lot of kids do with toys the second problem is that you're definitely going to feel it in the wallet at 500 us dollars. I wish maybe as one more thing they had thrown in a small digital screen for the view screen that could change or play archived clips from the series of footage on The view screen But it does look nice with all that said

@@generalgrievous696 I DID break off the warp Nacelle on the Ertl models I had when I was a kid too. Ok ok fine, not for kids.

I get that it isn't the right shape... but, it is both the outside and inside. I gotta say, it's really very impressive looking, and I think that might be enough. I'd suggest it kind of reminds me of the Star Wars toys, and so it is a little unusual for Star Trek but isn't that what makes it so damn cool? I think the bridge and stardrive sections are really nice. It does have the limitations of Playmobil figures, and truthfully I'd have preferred non-playmobil figures that were less stylised but they are a bit of a hoot. I do quite like it, do I like it enough to buy it? Probably yes, but the problem of where to display it, that's a problem. But if I had the space, yeah then I'd wince and pay the moolah.
@laundrupatton2083 жыл бұрын
Big as it is they could have wired more lights in that. I didn't catch the price. Because I have a MEGA BLOX version Enterprise I never opened and decided to find a KZbin video on that and compare.

Too expensive to buy for a child, not enough of an accurate representation to be a collectible.
@subraxas3 жыл бұрын
Funko Pops also aren't "an accurate representation" of what they portray and yet they are a world-wide smash hit with adult collectors. Lots of people adore super-deformed (chibi) stuff like this.

I’m selective on the collectibles I buy and I just don’t like this one. When I built my 350 scale model kits I used up all my display space. This is a cute toy though.

Hey I enjoy your videos. I dont have anything quite like this. And for me this is a good way for me induct my kids into startrek. As I hope and pray to have it maybe the app will get more updates and I hope we can purchase more figures. Yes I do belive a shuttle should have been added but in sure it would have given it a big but. Or aft if you will. Becouse knowing playmobile they would want to put the figure in it. I hope they do more to interact with this.
@michaelkata23423 жыл бұрын
I thinks it's very cool over all but there are things they could work on. The shuttle bay should open and either have a shuttle inside of they could use it to store the Tribbles. The lights for the windows could be glow in the dark stickers as a cheap way to do it. I think they should add a view screen screen saver to The app so when you put your phone in the bridge, it will look like The ship is traveling at warp (which could respond when you push the warp button) or have The ship orbit a planet. The figures were kind generic and I thought they could have done Kirk's hair a bit better. Spock...really they have him with a smile and the brows make him look evil. One eyebrow raised and a line for the mouth works just fine. The shape of the saucer isn't that big an issue for me as I see it from the sides, top and back...but I do see the problem if your going to hang it. Do I think it's worth $500...no but I wouldn't mind getting at around $250-$300.

I am still watching, but no matter what Stuart's opinion is, it was pretty awesome for Playmobile to send one to Trekyards.

$500 sounds pricey until your buddy shows you his new forge world resin model titan that he paid $1500 for :) and its about half the size of that.... and is a static model you have to build/paint.

Good review but best part has to be when you tried to convince her it wasn't worth the price. Seems like if you have the $$$ and want to buy it, go for it. Why must things always be so much here in Canada!
@vickid90353 жыл бұрын
A captain foly My question is where are the faser sound effects sound effects and where is the sound effect for the impulse drive and the light up with the red impulse lightsIf it doesn't have that or a working shuttle Bay and maybe maybe the blue light effect on the Grilling of the Is warpdriveThen perhaps it's not worth the price
@wullie8233 жыл бұрын
my thoughts are if Sylvija and Samuel or other members of your family and friends chipped in! then the cost would be justifiable, but to pay that all on your own, your right! it is too much, just a pity that Playmobil couldn't drop the price a bit for you, knowing who you are and the show you do

The Mega Bloks brick built large Enterprise really was the limit for me. If I wanted to spend the money, it would not be on a toy. And far, far too many stickers for that price. Who knows whether they will hold up just like 2 years from now?

Playmobil is always expensive as heck, 700 loonies is on point for this. This is something a Trekkie grandad or granma would get to play with their grandkids with. The Tribbles are dumb, should have come with a Gorn and a Klingon

Personally I love a lot of Playmobil's fandom collection. I have Ecto-1, Ecto-1A and the GB Firehouse and all 3 are phenomenal but I feel Playmobil really dropped the ball on this one. They made it look so "toyish". The two Ecto-1 cars from Ghostbusters don't really look like toys. Ecto-1A from Ghostbusters II is highly detailed to where I love it more than my expensive model versions. However this Enterprise just looks too much like a toy and that price tag is INSANE. I feel you're better off buying the Diamond Select TOS Enterprise rather than this one but that's just me. I personally prefer the Diamond Select version and it's also a tad smaller but also far more accurate.

@@robd1329 well if everyone is complaining about the price, then there’s value in the opinion. It’s a lot of cash for a piece of plastic. A nice piece to be fair, but a plastic toy at the end of the day. I’d be interested to know how much they cost per unit to produce. Seems to me they are targeting the adult collectors market. If that was a random spaceship toy with the same features, I’m sure it would be a quarter of the price.
