Theres nothing better. Me and my partner are both in our 20's, and we decided to get an 8 year old staffie rather then a puppy, and I wouldn't change him for the world. We've decided if we ever get other dogs, that they will always be older rescue dogs, they deserve a loving home in there last year's!

@@danhooper3467 II adopted an American fox hound she was outside in a kennel at Petsmart she just looked like her spirit had been broken. II adopted her she was four years old. I had her 5 years. Over those 5 years she had 3 different types of cancer. She was loving and playful. She know is was loved. Her name was Gretchen.

Always have gotten dogs 6+. My latest was left behind at almost 12, when her family moved. She had a hard time for a good 2 mos, but is great now! That was just over 2 yrs ago & she’s going strong. Hates being alone, but can’t blame her. She barks & howls! Tried everything. So, she’s rarely alone. ;) Used to hate the car too, but loves it now! Just don’t leave her alone in it. 😂 Has to be right by my side, a lot. She’s learned many new things & commands & loves to play & please. Before her, there was 10 Yr old Raggs, abused most of his life & a major work to get him to trust & not fear bite. 7 mos before he would even want to sit w/me on the couch. But that was the breakthrough! He blossomed well after that, but still would bite when startled or if lifted too quickly. X-rays showed he had numerous broken bones that were never taken care of, so healed ‘as is’. Had to be lifted gently & held like a lamb. Couldn’t do steps much, or jump, so needed to be lifted for the car, steps, couch, etc. Only trusted the 2 of us to do so. Vet had to sedate him just for a check up! They ‘fondly’ called Raggs, ‘the land shark’.😂 Altho Raggs only had 22 mos w/us, (cancer) & cost a fortune in Vet bills, we take solace in knowing that those were the best 22 mos of his hard life. And he learned to love swimming. Was good for his arthritis. He never did get the hang of playing, though. Just wanted to bite.😂 Rescued another 10 yr old a couple mos after Raggs died, & found her a great, forever home, as I wasn’t ready for another keeper at the time. She just passed recently, almost 7 yrs later. She was left behind in a vacation home by ppl from Morocco & only responded to French! So, a good 3 mos of getting her to respond to English & her forever mom was bilingual... in _French!_ We met by chance at the P.O.! Well, via God, more like it.. ;) She lived like a queen those 7 yrs. :) We had another for 10 yrs that was almost 7 when I went to rescue her. She was beyond a love! Never had such a sweet, & gentle natured dog. Total opposite of Raggs! But much needed & appreciated, after him! She was extremely smart, too. Almost human. My sweet Dew. I’ve rescued & worked with a couple others at 7 & found them great, forever homes, too. Wound up being great friends w/all the ppl. & even dog sat for them! Older dogs have so much to offer, I could never have a puppy, or even young dog again. The 7 yr old had years of energy & my current 14 yr old has the energy of a 7yr old, so that’s fine by me. Even my vet says he can’t believe her age. But her paperwork left in the house says so. Her eyes are getting cloudy, so they say so too. Older dogs are so much less work in that they are already housebroken, usually know basic commands, leash trained, car manners, & just have the general ropes down. Once they adapt, they bond as well as any younger dog...or even better. They’re as loyal & loving as you’ll find. One of the 7 yr olds I got a great home for, was _fiercely_ protective of his older lady & their home. She felt very safe alone there w/him. Like he knew she needed to feel safe & he was just the big boy to do that for her. No one could just walk in that house! And no one dared, until he was put in another room. The neighborhood quickly became aware of the new police dog on the block.😂 He wasn’t like that w/me. And loved seeing me when I arrived! They know who rescues them. ;) Kudos to all who take in the unwanteds in fur. Definitely one of the more rewarding things in life. We all need to take lessons from our dogs. The world would be a much better place.🐾 To those that did, Thanks for reading.🐾

What a sweetheart. I adopted an elderly dog. She died new years morning but she gave my family two wonderful years of love, laughs and frustration (she was a goof). I only hope that she enjoyed being with us. These people did a wonderful thing.

Poor sweet thing. My heart just breaks over elderly dogs thrown away by their crappy owners. I had one who lived to be 18. The last year was so difficult but my whole family and all my friends worked hard to help him have a good life. So glad this nice family helps Eugene

What an amazing couple, they adopted Eugene without knowing his history, only that he was in a shelter and he is12 and had a skin allergy. They didn't hesitate and adopted him straight away. They showed him that he was safe, and no one would ever hurt him again. He literally was like a puppy playing with his mum's slipper. They have shown him what love is, and he is happy, healthy, and loved. 🐕🐶🐾❤😇

Great that he has loving home. It’s heartbreaking when you get a rescue or homeless dog and they see you get a broom or shovel and they just curl up and try and protect themselves. You know they have been hit many times. Big hug for Eugene.

AWESOME! I would LOVE to have a "home" for senior dogs (no money, sigh). I could not go to the shelters anymore because I just kept looking at the old timers in there and would think "They probably lived their whole life with one family/person and now they are near the end and here they are.... Their whole world is gone. Lonely, scared, and close to death...." and I would just have to get the F*CK out of there our I would break down. Funny thing is, now I am sixty I have a much greater appreciation for dogs. They evolved JUST to exist/co exist with us humans! And we are their WHOLE WORLD! DId you know they even developed their eyebrows to communicate with us? And they just love us unconditionally. Our guy, Percy has two daddies. He prefers one (of course the one who hand feeds him all the time!) but it is just so cool because he splits his time between us! He'll spend a couple of hours with Daddy one, then come into my office and lay down next to me (Daddy number 2) for a while. It is just too damned cute!

A lot of times if you just foster then the shelter pays for all the expenses. A lot of times the seniors never get application for adoption so you end up keeping them for the rest of their lives anyways! 🥰🥰

Thank you for giving that wonderful old boy a home. I am heartbroken due to having to put my wonderful old retired bird dog down the other day. He was deaf and blind and having other issues. I probably waited too long. It was a rough day. So here I am several days later watching videos like this with tears in my eyes. My thumbnail picture or whatever you call it is the old dog I’m writing about. His name was Oliver And he was a big part of my support system during chemo and surgeries. He helped me survive pancreatic cancer. It was a very special bond

I'm not crying, truly. Senior rescue dogs have become a mainstay in our family. Although they often come with costly health issues, their love is unconditional. Recently my dear husband passed away suddenly. He was the main care giver for the dogs and for me, who was recovering from an accident and surgery. The drive to care for our dogs: feed, give them their medication and arrange exercise for them has helped me cope with horrible grief. They miss their Dad as well. Our 14yo miniature poodle with allergies and skin sores was attached to my husband's hip. Gabe spent each day snoozing under his Dad's desk, while Dad worked remotely. Gabe had each coffee break or treat break memorized and wasn't afraid to pipe up if a meeting was running long. Its these memories that give me comfort. Watching another family rescue an elderly dog with health issues just makes me smile, even thru the tears.
