Tremors is the perfect example of a movie that turned out way better than it had any right to be. Solid writing, good characters and well done effects. It spawned many sequels but nothing tops the original. RIP Fred Ward

Melvin is kind of a tool, but you have to remember, he's the only teenage boy in possibly hundreds of miles. He must be bored out of his mind, so pranks are a pretty harmless way to relieve the stress.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. The practical effects were better than most cgi. This movie has some great scenes in it. Anyone who likes monster movies with plenty of action should give this a try.

I love the Tremors film franchise. I remember constantly watching the first film on VHS and then in 1996 discovering the direct to VHS sequel Tremors 2: Aftershocks. More sequels and a short lived TV series followed.

I love this movie. It’s one of my favourite horror-comedies. RIP Fred Ward. And that car scene where Val and Earl find the headlights and radio still on always sticks with me too - at least since a couple of years ago when I sat for half an hour listening to an audiobook play while I waited for a doctors appointment during the lockdowns and my battery completely died doing that.

Burt was in a well known sitcom over here. He played the father on Family Ties, which is also where Michael J Fox started. Also Jason Bateman's real life sister Justine was on the show. (Funnily enough both Jason and Michael would play Teen Wolfs later.) He's been a few movies as well but usually kinda smaller parts. Earl has been in a lot of stuff. Even recently, though he passed away not too long ago. One of his biggest roles was he played the titular Remo Williams in an 80s movie, that also starred Kate Mulgrew who later played Capt Janeway in Star Trek Voyager, and Wilford Brimley.

I'm so glad you've finally watched my favorite movie of all time. I'd also highly recommend the sequel, Tremors II. I can remember, vividly, when my father first showed me this movie as a small child. I fell in love with everything about it instantly. For my entire childhood I wanted that exact same pickup truck they drive through most of the movie. My friends and I used to play games, where we'd pretend there were graboids under our backyards, and we'd tried to traverse all around without ever touching the ground. Great times, great movie. It holds up so well, and I watch it every single Halloween. Also happened to be released the year of my birth. Where my other 1990ers at?

I know you’re not usually into looking at DTV movies, but if you’re interested in continuing with this series there are plenty of sequels. Up to the 4th was when it was good before the recent two movies that were meh. Plus there’s an underrated 13-episode series that takes place after the 3rd film. And also RIP Fred Ward

But you might be happy to know, Walter’s daughter inherits the store, Miguel’s daughter is also there, AND the actor playing Melvin, reprises the role. He a bigger jerk as an adult. LOL.

I first saw this film when I was 9 with my mom and dad on the local TV station and we all really enjoyed it. Ariana Richards who played Mindy is now an award winning painter. According to an interview I either read or saw years ago we shopped at the same art supply store. I've never met her though.

So, the actor who played Burt previously had a big role on the early 80s family sitcom Family Ties, playing the father of Michael J. Fox's character. He played a former hippie who worked for public broadcasting, as a foil to Fox as the conservative son. This role was a total 180 for him. Certain details of his performance have also been cited by Firearms Safety instructors as examples of one of the rare times Hollywood got everything right.

Fred Ward has been in several movies, mostly in supporting roles. His most memorable ones include The Right Stuff, Escape from Alcatraz w/Clint Eastwood, and Naked Gun 33 1/3. The only leading role that I know him from is a guilty pleasure called Remo Williams, the Adventure Begins. I am always happily surprised when he pops into a movie.

Underground god-damn monsters! I love Tremors, it's one of my absolute favourite films. The monsters are dangerous but not unstoppable, with both the people and the Graboids learning about each other in a battle of wits. And the people being pretty smart about it rather than the plot being driven by them being idiots. You know that when the audience are telling the characters to do what they are doing instead of to _not_ do what they're doing. Also interesting as a rare horror film set almost entirely in bright sunlight. The sequels are great too, definitely worth watching too, and even the TV series is fun, even if it's a bit wackier than the films. The second film opens with Earl hired to hunt Graboids at an oilfield in Mexico, but things don't go according to plan...

This is one of the franchises that could be a really good thriller redone. Kinetic camera movement, pov at the heels while they run full speed with each step causing a minor digital shake effect to keep the video clean enough but intensify everything that brings in the kills when the thrill is alive on screen and some charismatic cast would do it justice. If Sam Raimi did it today it would be a lot of fun.

I love that Mary compares this to Jaws. The original idea by the two writers was basically "what there was a 'land-shark'." A director friend who had a bit of zoology experience from working with National Geographic helped them flesh the idea out to make it more realistic.
