Babies know you're there by your smell, touch and looking into your eyes. He will recover sooner when the bonding occurs. Just because he cannot tell you he needs you doesn't mean he doesn't need you as much as a 5 or 6 year old. The house can wait even if you need to go to a hotel. Maybe you could get special release to live in the house if the officials knew your situation you could get a special exemption to live in it for a month or two. When I've been in the hospital and in and out of conciseness it was so so comforting to see my husband sitting beside me even though I couldn't express. At a minimum have your mom stay at the hospital. Even these videos can wait so you can be with your son. Most hospitals have a bed in the room for a parent to stay or hire someone to finish the build and focus on the family.

As for the temporary exemption to live in their home,…. They didn’t bother with that, they are already living in their home illegally which is why her mother is able to live in Terry until the furniture for the rent house came.

Trent and Allie, you can do this! Little Leo will get through this, too! Get a little stuffed animal that plays music. Sleep with it so your scent is on it. Take it to Leo and place it in his crib at the hospital. Tell the nurses what you are doing and instruct them to wind it up each time they care for him and put it near where he can smell it. This will help him know that you haven’t left and you are still “with” him. This will also aid with emotional abandonment issues later. I did this with my infant son when I was 2 hours away from him in the hospital. He is 42 and we will always have a special bond.
@Jaynes-Path3 жыл бұрын
My youngest was a preemie and knew my scent! I would leave her with my pillow case or something that I would have my scent on. I also had a something to play music near her so she didn't feel alone. This helped her to stay calm when I had to leave her. It does help!

My first grandchild was born six weeks premature and spent about two weeks in NICU before her body systems had developed enough for her to go home. As much as it is NOT what you want for Leo or yourselves, you could think of this time as the final weeks of gestation for him. He's just doing it in NICU instead of in uterine, and it is nerve wracking and heart rending for you. Keep acknowledging those silver linings! My granddaughter is now 13 years old, healthy, strong, brilliant and beautiful. Leo just needs this time to finish developing.

I did laugh a bit when Trent said that warming pad makes Leo sleep like a baby - he is a baby! My heart goes out to you, I know this is a difficult time but it will pass and Leo will be home with you soon enough. When my daughter was a baby she had surgery and I gave the nurses a tshirt that I had slept in that had my scent on it so that when she work from anesthesia she would think I was closeby. You already know that primary children's is one of THE BEST hospitals in the country, but just to reassure, my sister had open heart surgery at primary children's when she was only 12 months old and I also went to primary children's when I was in my early teens. We are from Idaho. I watch your videos religiously and I know that Leo is in the best care he could possibly have. My sister is 28 and I am 25. We owe our lives to that hospital and the care they gave us. I can't imagine what you are going through without your baby at home but he will be there shortly and im so happy that you are in driving proximity to primary. Sending you all the good thought. Thank you for bringing light into my life over the years.

Leo is so adorable. I can’t believe the timing of him opening his eyes and giving you a wind smile when you were talking about home and food lol. You guys a incredible!
@tamaragrottker76773 жыл бұрын
Leo wants you guys to finish the house and get it inspected so that when he comes home you don't have that hanging over your head. It really is good that he is in a great hospital. It also gives you a great rest because the first month with baby waking up every 2 hours is exhausting. It is all working out the way it should. Hug.

@@gigigigi9479 exactly, I don't understand staying away from him all the time. I've been in their situation, the baby is helpless and needs the mom. She can sleep on the bed in his room. Parents suffer it comes with parenting along with joy. Being a parent is selfless!!! You can take care of yourself and stay with the baby.

@Margie we are kindred mammas! My son did not have a working colon (didn’t develop as a continuous organ) when born. A military adult surgeon put him back together because they didn’t have a pediatric surgeon. Afterward we were given the diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis and a prognosis of less than 2 years old. He is now a thriving 43 year old who lives life on his terms.

My great-grandson was born prematurely weighing 2 lbs 11 oz. He was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 74 days. He turned 2 years old in July of this year and is the healthiest, most beautiful little boy. You little Leo will be getting the best care ever so have faith in the experts. They will keep Leo for as long as it takes for him to get healthy enough to go home.

Thirty-nine years ago when I had my second son, even though I was at 9 months and 2 days he was born with a few health issues. So he ended up being in an incubator for 10 days. When I finally go to bring him home on the 11 day I felt so happy and relieved. Stay strong and positive, you will feel that too very soon.

i really admire your mental attitude. I know a parents in similar situations and they weren't able to do anything. I understand that returning to work and completing the house is distracting but it also takes a LOT of strength to do so. Thank god you both are such a perfect team, supporting each other. My thoughts are with you and I wish you and LL (little Leo) all the best for a soon return home.

I think you are both doing the right thing by not always being there. My daughter at 3 months old was in the hospital and almost died. So I know what you are feeling. Plus, 1) you need your rest to be able to be there for Leo emotionally and physically. 2) A lot of parents just get in the way of treatment and in the way of the Dr's and nurses doing their job making baby healthy. 3) like you said, you have a lot left to do on your home and you need to get as much done before Leo comes home so when he does you can focus on him and not worry to much about what needs to get done. You are both amazing people and are making the best decisions possible for your family. ❤️
