Day six of the trial for three men charged with killing Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old black man, in 2020.
RELATED: Judge reprimands attorney during trial for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery • Judge reprimands attor...
A man who called police to report Ahmaud Arbery inside a house under construction testified Wednesday, giving jurors a new perspective of what happened moments before Arbery was chased down by three other men and fatally shot.
Matthew Albenze, who has lived in the Satilla Shores neighborhood of Brunswick for more than 30 years, said that minutes after he called the police nonemergency number, he heard shots and came across a "shocking scene," where Arbery's body was splayed on the road.
Albenze is the first witness who is not a police officer to testify in the murder trial of three white men accused of killing Arbery, who was Black. After father and son Gregory and Travis McMichael spotted Arbery in their neighborhood, William "Roddie" Bryan joined in and they "cornered" Arberyhe was fatally shot by Travis

In cities around America like New York City, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Flint, And Akron you would be lucky to get one patrol car to a trespassing call. All I can say it there isn't much crime in Brunswick if you can have all these officers in one vacant house. And the neighbors are a bunch busy bodies who have nothing better to do than get involved in nonthreatening bs in the neighborhood. This proves this town has very little real crime. The officer saying "how do we know what his intent was?" Knock out blow to the defense.

Try chasing someone with a gun and see if you're not arrested. You'll be charged with Aggravated Menacing and Reckless Endangerment. Incidentally, who even attempts to make a citizens' arrest these days? Even though it's still legal, who attempts making citizen's arrest today? Effectuating a citizen's arrest is dangerous for both parties. These three murderers are in very big trouble.

@@simonquemo7525 I don't think npr is right about that. I've heard several consistent explanations about citizens arrests in Georgia. They define it in the trial. To be legal a citizen must witness the crime and the arrest made at the time of the crime. And they can only pursue them if the crime is a felony. Something like that. I am no expert, but I have never seen anything like it. It seems like this officer is assigned only to finding a trespasser who does not seem to be breaking any other laws, but js a very serious problem. However, when this same department responds to a fatal shooting, they are so chill you would think it was a fender bender. The officers on scene immediately accept the McMichael's version and stand around shooting the shit with them while Ahmaud's body lay in the middle of the street. It's just ridiculous that the defense attorneys would try and make Larry English's property the reason for the McMichaels to take actions as if they were law enforcement officers or trying to make the comparison to an active duty officer who is trained to investigate, if there's a crime committed. Even to the point of investing the Black residents that lived in the community as a possibility of knowing Arbery, but they never "go door to door to ask about the white couple that had entered the house under construction, that had nothing stolen out of it. That became the defense attorneys theme for self defense and a citizens arrest of which neither was founded by the defense attorneys in this case. Their own racist sentiment was obvious in defending their clients who murdered Ahmuad Arbery, because he wouldn't stop running away from three white men, because they had guns and where willing to use them to stop him from running away from them...........

The police should have told Larry English to put up trespassing signs and get his house to lock-up stage in a timely fashion. If nothing had been stolen and nothing had been damaged, English should have been told he was being a nuisance. The police contributed to Arbery being chased, because they canvassed the neighbourhood, showed his photo, and primed people to look out for him. All because he had stopped on a run to probably take a breather and a sip of water from a tap in the house. A loss of a life for absolutely nothing.

It all hinges on the citizens arrest. If the MM's believed AA was committing a felony and was fleeing then they had a legal right to apprehend AA, it does not matter what was in AA's head as he is dead and cannot be questioned. If the MM's had a right to legally apprehend AA and AA fought back then the MM's had a right to use deadly force, just like a police officer would if being attacked by a suspect they are trying to arrest. If an officer has a gun and is being attacked the officer can say he was fearful the suspect could obtain the gun and use it against them, just like the MM's can say. If the MM's had no legal right to arrest/apprehend AA then yes, they are the aggressors and cannot use self defense. It doesnt matter what you or I think AFTER the fact, what matters is what was in the mind of MM's at that time, hindsight is 20/20. At that time the MM's knew of felonies that had taken place, they knew Ahmaud was suspected of those crimes and they knew he was back at the scene of prior crimes and possibly committing crimes again. It meets the "immediate knowledge" criteria and escaping or fleeing.

They never told him he was making a citizen's arrest and I believe the law does mention you have to have actually witness a crime/ felony level crime being comitted. So let me get this straight. There were reports of a black man snooping around, tresspassing, and stealing stuff. 3 men find him, and decide to perform a citizen's arrest. As they are questioning the black man, the black man runs up to the kid and tries to steal his gun in order to shoot the kid. The kid is afraid for his life, so he shoots the black man in self-defense. So the 3 men had no intention of shooting the black man, because they were only trying to get him arrested. It was only until the black man attempted to kill them that the kid shot him, before he got his own gun stolen. Can someone tell me how this kid could possibly be considered a murderer? It was clearly self-defense. You can watch the whole thing on video. Also, was the kid just supposed to let the black man steal his gun and shoot him? Come on people. Just because the kid is white and the dead man is black, doesn't mean you should throw out your ability to reason.

You're kidding right? Nothing was ever taken by him. They assumed it was him. Chased him and attempted to trap him like a rat(their words) and when he is finally trapped between both trucks and having a couple of guns pointed at him he runs away from the shooter and the shooter moves to the front of his truck to pursue him and he fights to save his life and loses it instead. 3 against one.
