Spitfire was fitted with a carb which experienced engine cut-outs during negative G manoeuvres and was eventually fixed by a washer nicknamed ( Miss Shilling's orifice). The Messerschmitt Bf 109 had mechanical fuel injection. That was only a comment, I didn't want to upset anyone. Keep up the good work! 😉

They went to pressurised carbs fairly quickly, then injection in the 66 engine, so it was there. The injection on the Messerschmitt was flawed as it was multi cylinder, so limited boost. Spitfires, carburated or injected fuel pre charger

My favourite podcast so far, lots of good humour, it's nice to see three trials addicts enjoying a conversation. Though for clarification, Yamaha brought out the TY 80 and TY 250 together for the 1974 model year, and introduced the TY 175 in 1975. In later years, they also produced a TY 50 and a TY 125 for select markets. I know because I've owned various Yamahas since 1972, and wrenched for various Yamaha dealerships for decades here in Canada. Keep the feet up, boys.

No No the Spitfire has a Carb the Me 109 had fuel injection Miss Shilling that worked for Rolls Royce developed an orifice for the carb which stopped the engine cutting out, she also rode motorcycles

Yes Yes both had injection. Spitfire went to pressurised carbs (same effect) then injection, I think Merlin 66 was the one and was before the end of the war, I stand corrected if it was post war. On a tangent the 109 injection was cylinder based so post charge, spitfire was pre charge, for absolute power, you wouldn't use the Messerschmitt injection anyway. Hence the focus on twin speed chargers on the spitfire. 1000 ways to do it, ultimately they chose well as we aren't talking German and a short angry man from Austria didn't get his way 👍

I did one of Mick Andrews training day on my 45 year old Beamish Suzuki. learnt a lot from him. he waves his finger at you if he saw you using the clutch while in a section.
