This 15,000+ word script is the longest I've ever written/recorded. Ended up having to delete about 15 minutes because it had reached a point where Premiere was constantly crashing and simply trying to export it would freeze the program eternally. To even get this cut down video out I had to change some of the effects/graphics. The irony isn't lost on me that this is a video about cut content caused by memory limits and it has its own cut content because of memory limits 😂🤦‍♂️ Projects of this complexity take a lot out of me, so it'll probably be a while before I release anything like this. Huge thanks to the dope people in my discord for helping with research. I hope you enjoy 🖤 Update: I restored the toast www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/74886/ Update 2: Apparently the section about the Yao Gaui scene not happening on the PS3 version is wrong. A friend who has some esoteric knowledge of the game mentioned it and I took it at face value without checking it. The Yao Guai still appears but apparently the gecko doesn't from the comments I've gotten. My bad!

That was part of what I cut out 😢. That line seemingly suggests it was a unique spear, though he does have throwing spears in his inventory so it miiiight be a reference to that, but definitely possible it's a reference to a cut weapon.

53:21 "Follows Chalk and Waking Cloud have cut scream lines for being set on fire, but Joshua does not." Now that's some lore accuracy, as it's said in-game that when Caesar set Joshua on fire and tossed him into the grand canyon, he didn't scream on the way down, so it makes sense he wouldn't scream now.

I don't get the complaints about Joshua being disappointing. Some of the biggest badasses in history are basically normal people who did extraordinary things and then went back to being normal people. I have a real soft spot for this dlc even though its so simple. I just think the atmosphere, characters, and story of this place is so beautiful, immersive, and unique that it grabs me. Whenever I'd play a new vegas character one of the first questions I'd ask myself is, "Would they side with Daniel or Joshua and to what degree?" And I've been able to get a lot of variation from my different characters. To bitter old men happy to destroy an enemy, young starry eyed girls thinking death isn't the answer, to a scarred tribal superimposing her own trauma on this new conflict and using it to confront and grow past that. It's kind of sad people don't love it as much as I think it deserves especially because I thought its depiction of religion was so well handled. I know this video was a draining process to make but I appreciate it so much, thank you and keep up the good work.

Hey, on my PS3 version of the Ultimate Edition (no updates, as I didn't have internet at the time) spawned the Yao Guai during the scripted scene with Follows-Chalk. The Green Gecko spawned as well, the attack sound played, but despite playing through it many times over the years, the Gecko was never flung like that, it simply died by the bush it spawned at. The Yao Gaui would still stand over the cliff and play its animation before running off like usual.

Actually editing Vanilla Quests isn't as difficult as you would think, why they did it was probably to do with bloat. They could've made new quests and conditioned them to only happen if certain quest stages or variables had been triggered. In the New Quest window, you can insert changes, the only thing you have to do in order to interact with vanilla quests is to insert modded dialogue choices or otherwise in existing dialogue trees by adding the Greeting Dialogue as a top-level flagged dialogue tree and having extra lines added as choices. You can then run alternative sequences by simply having a completely different set of triggers, dialogue choices and scripts perform the new sequence you wish. The only problem with this strat is time, it is time-consuming depending on what you are trying to do. If you're a games company you gotta pay for extra voice lines. It requires a lot of discipline to not accidentally edit scripts or sequences not a part of your alternative work flow and finally, it mostly requires patience. But if you do it correctly you can generate quests and entire new cutscenes based on existing content and characters. So if you're willing to play dangerously you can even add entire new end game sequences.

Personally I wasn't a fan of some of the story twists at the start of the DLC like having the caravan you came in with all die or dealing with boring discount native Americans over seeing a society based on a prewar religion only for it to actually be destroyed. Also the DLC had way too much go to X location to collect objects Y and Z. which was something I felt New Vegas tried to avoid in quests due to how uninteresting it is. The DLC also feels really short and perhaps rushes you from one objective to the next without giving you time to explore properly (also only 1 vendor and no storage area made it hard to keep all the items you wanted, at least for me). But despite the paragraph of grievances I have with the DLC, I think it still is a solid experience overall. It had some neat quests and very interesting characters and stories like with Joshua Graham and the Survivalist. Like all DLCs you had some items and perks to play around with as well. Also considering it wasn't constantly slogged down with tedious mechanics like Dead Money was, it is already better than that DLC in my book

The religious context involved is super interesting. Personally I find religion to still hold value when you get down to its root instead of listening to everyone shouting about it. So when I had to choose between Joshua and Daniel, I still chose Joshua. Despite understanding Daniel and his views. I found daniels views to be too hopeful and unrealistic when it came to the fallout world. The tribes stayed innocent like they were, because they were isolated in Zion, moving them would’ve resulted in the same problem later on, or simply caused more problems for the tribes. I also didn’t like the idea of giving up their home because they were pressured. Joshua’s views in my eyes while being more wrath than peace, was more of a result in my eyes. They kept their home, got rid of the threat, they may have lost their innocence. But in time, while staying in that environment, they’d eventually regain it. But in my eyes it’s still something they needed to do to survive

I actually really liked Joshua's introduction. He doesn't need to prove he's a badass and doesn't care if the Courier thinks he is one. He has a job to do, and the courier can either help or get out of the way. This sets him apart from the more theatrical Caesar and Lanius, who need to go out of their way to cultivate the authority Joshua naturally exudes. The scene also emphasizes his more utilitarian attitude vs Daniels's idealism.

Hearing Joshua Sawyer's thoughts on the religiousness and religiosity between Joshua Graham and Daniel was interesting. As someone who is a lay theologian with a background in Christian theology (even though I don't personally consider Mormonism to be a branch of Christianity), I enjoy hearing about how religion inspired the dichotomous choice between Graham and Daniel. Sawyer stated that a player who doesn't share Daniel's worldview, i.e. the value of nonviolence and innocence, will typically not side with him. However, as a Protestant fundamentalist who understands the theological and spiritual significance of forgiveness and innocence, I too side with Graham rather than Daniel. The Dead Horses and the Sorrows have a biblically ordained right to defend their homeland and protect their tribes. Daniel's plan to evacuate Zion Canyon doesn't solve the problem; it simply prolongs it.
