I have a projector and 120" screen in front of my bike and treadmill and the same foot pod set up for my Zwift Running. Its epic! Big advantage is treadmill running is much less pounding on the joints...

Been Zwift running with Stryd Power for about a month. It has been a game changer for treadmill running for me. Garmin has a Stryd data screen you can use to see your power, ave power and more on your watch. Also Stryd told me there is a walking mode and running mode that automatically switches on the footpod at about 120 spm. Power jumps about 30 watts with just a small increase in spm. It freaked me out until I called and found out why. This will be great for winter training.

I've been doing quite a bit of indoor running this winter so after watching this video I was pumped to give Zwift run a try. I ordered a MilestonePod, since it is the cheapest. Taren's review noted that it doesn't support cadence with Zwift, I was ok with this because I can also wear my Garmin watch and use it to monitor cadence. I'm happy to report however, that my MilestonePod actually does support cadence, very exciting. I don't know if there is a newer version out and details just haven't made it downstream yet. But if you are looking to get into Zwift on the cheap, Milestone seems to be a good option. I use a treadmill at my local YMCA. Fortunately they have wifi, so with the MilestonePod, my Wahoo HR monitor and my ipad I'm good to go. I just started the Zwift 13.1 program and hope to work my way to also getting a half marathon PR. Thanks Taren, I didn't even consider trying Zwift for running until this video.

I’m also using the Stryd, Garmin 935 and the Tickr rate monitor and have been really pleased so far. You hit the nail on the head: better than people watching at the gym, or running outside in the snow but nowhere near as immersive or fun as Zwift biking.
@TimGrose6 жыл бұрын
Have you tried any group runs yet? That is the immersive and fun bit for me.
@TimGrose6 жыл бұрын
Good to see this. One of the key features for me on Zwift Run is the weekly group runs we have on Zwift although perhaps I am biased as organise some of them! There is Monday Run Club (usually steady progression run), Workout Wednesday Run (interval session) and Run in the Park on Saturday. Please join us sometime - would make a good follow up video. We run them up to 6 times a day to suit different time zones and there is 4 pace groups in each one. You don't need to run Zwift on an iPad actually on your treadmill. I have a large screen ahead of me with Zwift on a PC and use the iPad on the treadmill for the Zwift companion app for messaging and seeing what is coming up in workouts etc. One little trick with the Stryd is that if you pair it as a power meter in the bike pairing screen and switch back to the run one and get setup there as normal, it should record your power in the FIT file. You can't see it in Zwift but should be there to analyse later.

Hey Tim, You also make great Zwift videos. Can you use Stryd as a cycling power meter? or a cadence meter?
@TimGrose6 жыл бұрын
@@ejsimpson8270 Afraid not - only works for running. I did try once to see what would happen - not a lot. It does measure cadence when running though.

The stryd; even though you don't see the power data on screen (yet) whren the zwift run is uploaded to training Peaks you can go through and analyse it there, thats without using a garmin. It also shows up in the Stryd app. I think Zwift are a little behind on this one.
@raybelanger73375 жыл бұрын
Zwift, like any other heart monitoring devices, is a lagging average-based device. It needs a dozen or so signals (heart beats or paces) before it starts representing it digitally or virtually in the case of Zwift. This is why the virtual runner lags you.
@bobmccord214 жыл бұрын
Do you know of any foot pods that can be set up for multiple users.... as opposed to buying addition foot pods or re-calibrating before each use? The Stryd is crazy expensive in Canada so I would be looking at something like the Polar as an option.

Thanks a lot for the video Taren. this is what got me to buy the Stryd. Unfortunatly, i am not able to use the stryd on Zwift on apple TV and also run it on my apple watch at the same time for some reason... it's a one or the other kind of deal, which is a bummer because i like to rack up miles in zwift but i also want the data from the stryd power center. any ideas on how to get it to tie into both?

I wonder if you can use the Peloton Tread screen for this. Or get a used treadmill and build my own single board computer hooked up to a 20" touchscreen LCD.

Bryan, I've heard you can download Treadmill Smart Speed app and have it broadcast the speed you're running on your Peloton Tread in order to have it function with Zwift.

Good video! I'm from Wpg also and yeah I want to get into this when the snow comes. So question if I buy that stride pod you're talking about, do I just connect via blue tooth to my garmin app afterwords to download my run to Garmin connect? I have a 235 and whenever I'm on a treadmill I find pace and distance isnt that accurate.

Hi Taren. Are you able to provide some advice on should have versus would be nice to have when buying a treadmill? I've started looking at treadmills but I'm unsure as to what I should look out for, which brands to stay away from or should definitely consider, and what sort of price range is reasonable.
@cicirunner6 жыл бұрын
If you're a serious runner, get a treadmill with at least a 3hp motor or higher. Stay away from folding treadmills that are compact/lighter weight and thus less durable and prone to shaking at faster speeds. Make sure you know the speed limitations of the treadmill before you buy. Some treadmills top out at 10mph which I feel is not adequate for a lot of runners. If you have space in your home, consider commercial grade treadmills that are the type you would see at gyms. They are built for heavy use. I personally have a Life Fitness 95T that I got refurbished.
@newlifestartsnow44446 жыл бұрын
cicirunner Thanks so much for your detailed response.
@TimGrose6 жыл бұрын
Yeah by and large you get what you pay. As stated consider how fast you might want to go. Few of us run steady state at 10 mph/16 kph or more but if you do intervals then 10 mph might seem rather slow. Taren mentioned some treadmills that connect directly to Zwift. I have one of them - the MYRUN Technogym. Am pleased with it as provides a near gym quality "ride", is very compact and connects direct to Zwift for both speed and cadence. It is not cheap but equally a fraction of the price of the treadmills you find in gyms. Another option is to look for a refurbished gym quality treadmill if you don't mind "second hand" and don't want to move it out of the way too often as they tend to be built like tanks to cater for almost continuous use in gyms. If you are interested in Zwift you can probably forego a "nice" console as Zwift provides the "entertainment". The MYRUN is like that - very minimal console.

Good afternoon. Can I use garmin tri heart rate instead of foot pod?
@stephaniexyz37816 жыл бұрын
I had the same question and contacted Zwift on that topic... (I wouldn't want to buy a foot pod, as my garmin tri HRM is able to deliver all that data and even more). I'll keep you posted, as soon as I get an answer from Zwift.
@TimGrose6 жыл бұрын
You can use the Garmin HRM-Tri for HR in Zwift but not as a speed source as that HR strap does not measure it. The running dynamics it does measure like VO and GCT aren't the same sort of thing. The Wahoo TickrX HR strap can be used a speed source although it is not that great in my experience compared to a Stryd.

Hey Taren. My spm is usually 161 spm, I heard it´s got to be around 180. I´m quite tall (6´4") and if I´m not going all out anything more than that feels like I´m overdoing my cadence. Should I stick to my natural cadence? Thanks for another great vid!
@Itseme36 жыл бұрын
It's not this fixed value for everyone, sure most professional distance runners run around 190 but that's not for everyone. It very much depends on your height and the speed your running at. The taller you are the slower your cadence is at a speed where some smaller guy is already having to move his shorter legs much faster than you.
@TimGrose6 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is no hard and fast rule. 180 is a bit of a guide. Cadence will naturally increase with pace. I am a fraction taller than you and my cadence tends to go from about 170 at a slow jog to around 200 in a flat out 800 metres. I find on a treadmill my cadence tends to be about 4 spm lower than outdoors for same effort. A very low cadence might mean you are over striding a bit but it is hard to change style running. A treadmill is a good place to experiment a bit.

pace seemed a bit wrong for most of that. is that just delay?

Do you know how this compares to the Garmin foot pod? Does ant+ make it unusable?
@cicirunner6 жыл бұрын
check out a foot pod comparison video by FilmMyRun. He tests every foot pod.
@TimGrose6 жыл бұрын
You can use a Garmin foot pod in Zwift as long as what you use for Zwift supports ANT+ connections - i.e. a PC or Mac. Alternatively you can get a bridging device like a CABLE that converts ANT+ to BLE but if you get a Garmin and a CABLE that is almost as much as a Stryd which is the only foot pod am aware that is dual BLE and ANT+ so can connect to any Zwift platform. As mentioned FilmMyRun (Stephen Cousins) has a video comparing different foot pods. His results agree with my own experiences that the Garmin is OK if calibrated but Stryd is definitely the best one at this time.
