@bligabliga . My grandmother (maternal) was 4' 9" maybe 70lbs. Se hated the fact that people had to eat to survive. However, he tea biscuits were just short of divine. She's been gone nearly 30 years and I can still remember the taste, super soft inside and butter coated crunchy outside.

Glad they enjoyed it as much as I do. The tortilla does seem a little small as does the amount of barbacoa in it. It can be made a number of ways - put it in a roaster, crock pot, oven, but I like it the traditional way. Usually in the afternoon, dig a deep pit about 4-5 ft. at least. Put a lot of mesquite logs in it and lit it up. When the mesquite has burned down and now white/gray coals, it is ready to be used. While waiting for coals to be ready, wrap a cow's head in burlap, wet it thoroughly, wrap it in foil, wrap chicken wire or plain wire around it so that you can pick it up after it is cooked. Some throw cactus leaves to separate the coals from the meat. Anyway, cover the hole with tin roofing material (or something that can't burn thru it like a barrel lid), and cover it with dirt. Don't want any air or heat escaping. Go to bed. Get up the next morning, remove the dirt and lid, remove the head. Take it to a table and remove the wire, burlap and start removing all the meat from the bones. This includes brain, tongue, eyeballs, cheek and the rest of the meat from the head. It will be fairly easy. Some like to separate all the different types of meat - all head meat, tongue, brain, eyes. Some like to mix it up. My Grandfather loved to scoop the eyeballs out and eat them as is. To me as a kid, it was as funny as it was weird. Enjoy with corn or flour tortillas. Make sure you have the other condiments like cilantro, onion, tomatoes, different kinds of salsa, beans, and, of course salt. Ahhhhh! Brings back a lot of fond memories. THIS was a family event.

I love to make barbacoa! I learned from my mother and grandmothers. Once in a while, I will make it with bison meat, but because it is so low in fat, I have to cook it at a lower temperature for a longer amount of time, to get the right tenderness. So good!!

I laughed and laughed when a New York chef said "Mexicans don't use (wheat)flour tortillas".I grew up around Mexicans and they certainly do.Wheat was easier to grow in the north of Mexico rather than the south,where indeed they use corn tortillas more than wheat ones.The smallest flour tortillas are about the size of a hand,like corn tortillas,they are easier to make very large wrapping tortillas from than the corn version.The biggest wrapping tortilla I have ever seen was about the size of that red plate.
@jrico540
@jrico540 23 күн бұрын
Its a cultural difference thing. The north has a lot more people from Euro descent from the og colonizers to waves of immigrants that have always preferred wheat and dairy products that breed things like the quesadilla. The south has ethnically native locals that have always used different types of "heirloom" maize for millenia and is where you'll find more exotic tastes like worm tacos. Its all good eating tho, cheers!

After seeing your post, I went back to check.....The host said 'flavor of barbacoa'. Real barbacoa, as you and I know is from the beef head slowly cooked overnight. My grandpa had a deep pit lined with bricks in which we would hang a head or two over coals in foil and wet burlap sacks, cover the pit with a sheet of very thick aluminum and cover with dirt. My favorite is with corn tortillas, hot salsa and no cilantro. Here in South Texas, many consider it a ritual to have Big Red soda with their barbacoa.

Well have I got a treat for you. Easy Beef barbacoa, You want to take beef cheeks, jalapeno\serrano, onions, garlic and a slow cooker, chop the onions garlic and peppers relatively large, layer them on the bottom of the slow cooker. Then place your cheek meat on top. set temp for low, and leave for eight to twelve hours. DONOT TOUCH IT, DO NOT LOOK AT IT, DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. In fact don't do anything just go to bed and sleep for the rest of the day. the next morning your gonna turn off the cooker and in a bowel take out the cheek meat which will be falling apart. let the meat cool. then you want to shred the meat by hand. take the shredded meat and reheat in a frying pan serve in a tortilla with salt, pepper, minced onion and cilantro. if you want it real nice your also gonna ad a slice of avocado and Chile Verde, and a squeeze of lime.

I sgree that the "explanation" opening narration is unnecessary, as is the background music. The videos have been fine without them up to this point. On another topic... Rana has mentioned again being toothless...I recall him being quite happy when he got dentures. If it's not a State secret, why does he no longer have dentures?
@ChristopherCurtis

I haven't looked into it but I'm pretty sure that these are just some of the first videos, but they're re-uploading them with the voiceover. And because they now have an audience more people will see the old/first videos, and they'll also get more revenue. Instead of the thousands of views they get now the first videos probably only got tens.

@quentinmichel7581 @@ChristopherCurtis This is actually a new video and from what I've been seeing, there haven't been any reuploads of older videos... just a few "repeat" dishes like burgers, candy, etc. The narration at the beginning is new, but they've had background music in their videos on and off, for a long time. As far as Rana's dentures are concerned, I know that his first set got broken. He didn't have any for a bit, but then I noticed a few months ago that he had the lower teeth again. They'e never said how it happened or why there hasn't been a replacement upper. It could be that they just can't be fixed and a new upper would be too expensive?? A viewer/patron paid for the first set. People have asked here and there in the comments, but I haven't seen any replies from the channel, to date.

@@bobbiejojackson9448 Interesting. Thanks for the extended reply. I did go back and look at some old videos and they had 100's of thousands of views so my theory is blown. @@ChristopherCurtis Ah... no worries. I actually agree with you about all of the "first time" titles they've been using lately. I truly don't understand why they're doing it, when so many people have expressed disappointment over it and many, who say that they're longtime subscribers, have even said that they're going to unsubscribe! Because I've come to genuinely care about the people in front of and behind the cameras at TPT, I've tried to stick up for the producer and/or editing staff, in cases where it comes down to silly/rude complaints or people who are being overly critical about what are often simple cultural misunderstandings, but sadly, I honestly can't think of any good reason(s) for getting all "click-baity" with their titles. I just hope that they're listening to what people are saying. This channel has been such a positive thing for so many people... especially in the crazy world we're all living in.

Of all the tribal try channels, this is my favorite just because of the joyful chemistry you have. I enjoy watching content creators experiment with new ideas, even if they aren't totally successful. My only feedback is that to say on a video that it's the 'first time' when it's not is confusing. The viewer can run a search of the older videos to see if a meal or experience has been repeated. With 800+ videos and other sister channels, I'm sure coming up with new content is a challenge. But there are still plenty of global foods to be featured. For example, I would love to see the gentlemen try (or try making) a traditional Pakistani wedding meal that they always refer to. Or maybe have their talented chef cook a simple Ethiopian dish like Doro Wat or a vegan/vegetable lentil dish (spices can be found on Amazon), using roti in place of injera if that's not available. Continue to riff on menus from places like Turkey and Australia with kabobs, lamb chops, meat pies, etc. There are also plenty of delicious fish stew recipes out there (Spain/Brazil/France). And if you still run out of ideas check out Mark W's travel channel. He's been everywhere and tasted everything. And he captures how they make the food as well. Keep up the good work!

The english narrated intros are terrible and unnecessary. We come to hear them speak, we dont need some explanation of whats going on like we are children. The new editor and format has lost all this channels magic.

@@killjoy30011Nah it definitely has. It used to feel cozy hearing them speak in their own language and felt authentic. Now they have English intros with phrases like "its gonna be epic" like every other generic youtube channel. They lost the magic for sure.

I’m also not a huge fan of it…But I don’t understand how such a small thing could set you off to make your point in such a negative way. You must like the channel based on your statement about its long-lost ‘magic’ 🔮🤷🏻‍♂️ (a Tribal People Try boomer? 🤔) But if you like the channel, why not put your comment in a more constructive way to give feedback 🤷🏻‍♂️ instead of being all apocalyptic like the show is CANCELED! because of a 5second intro.. Calm down, friend.

I am more offended by Tahir and his alleged knowledge of health issues, his suggestions, comments, and his touting to be a health professional than I am about the music, or the introduction. He thinks he's being funny, and he's not at all funny. I do like the others, but Tahir makes a lot of erroneous statements and he acts like he's worldly, educated, informed, and experienced when he's clearly not.

... IT'S A WORK! The guy has acknowledged in the past that he's a carpenter and that the old world medical advice is an in-joke because he previously said everything can cure coughs or cancer or something. It's a running gag, everyone else is in on the joke
