Yes! I get so irritated with people who call it unsanitary or gross to eat without utensils when millions of people around the world do it every day without an issue. Just because it’s not the way we do it in the west does not mean it’s wrong. Our way is not “right” way, it’s *A* way.

Bread is used as a "pusher" on meal plates sometimes,to get food in place to pick it up while soaking up yummy gravy and sauce. Our family stew was I think more Northern ,this is apparently from Italy.Beef chunks were rolled in a mixture of flour, salt and black pepper and a strong flavored paprika, though not a smoked kind. The meat was browned in a little oil, then peeled cut up potatoes, celery, plenty of carrots(very tasty with beef gravy) and a large chopped onion were added and enough water to make gravy without drowning everything, about covered, and either cooked slowly or in a pressure cooker if it was wanted faster. Some of the seasoned flour was set aside to use to thicken the gravy after it was done.My mother would also make Irish Stew, which is similar but with lamb,no paprika .

It is very expensive to feed a family on fast food. Even here in the US we cook at home for our family mostly and fast food is more of a treat to give the cook a break.😄

It's very expensive and unhealthy as well. I drive a semi and am home most nights, but access to good food is tough for drivers that are in the truck for months on end. And most of the day is spent sitting in a seat driving, so no little to no exercise. I am jealous of the guys that run the big 72+ inch sleepers with shelves and a microwave and a little fold out desk and storage and all that stuff. A lot of guys manage to make a really tiny tiny home that they are comfortable in and can even bring a dog or two, with necessary refrigeration for perishables, a freezer, and a single burner cooking area with trips to the grocery store when time allows. I definitely can't do any of that in my sleeper without significant modification, but I only spend a day or two away from home regularly. I've got a place to sleep and a rocket stove to make food and tea with, so it works.

I assume that the "fast food" comments were aimed toward Americans, but I think the gents would be surprised to learn that most of what we eat here is good ol' fashioned home cooking! 😊 I'm sure we get that reputation because of the vast number of fast food chains that started and still thrive here and that have now branched out to other countries across the globe, but even though we do take advantage of it here and there, for most of us, burgers and take out pizzas, etc. are not such a big part of our daily diets! We really are such a "melting pot" of different cultures and traditions (including the foods that we eat) that we probably eat at least a few dishes from just about every country and culture that you could think of in the world. 🌎 Some might be a blended or "fusion" version of a couple of country's cuisines and many dishes have been adapted by the immigrants who came here generations ago, simply because they couldn't find some of the traditional ingredients that they used in their home country. So they went out to the markets and found the closest substitutes they could, then altered their recipes here and there to get a result that was as close to the original dish as possible. 😊💛

I don't know who made that but it looks absolutely delicious. I wish I had Smell-A-Vision. May I come over for a plate, please sir? Have the Tribal's had yeast rolls yet? Those are so divine. Usually we have big fat yeast rolls with our dinner like beef stew. We use the rolls to mop up any remaining juice or gravy on our plate. We typically use sliced Italian bread and garlic butter with an Italian meal (even though I don't think Italian's are really that big on garlic) and we use a bread like a baguette with a pate and cheese. Sliced bread is best for sandwiches and toast. May I suggest trying a "Big Fat Yeast Roll with Honey Butter"? You won't regret it. I really enjoy seeing them trying new foods but I also enjoy how they compare it to things they typically eat. Thank you once again for sharing.

We do make homemade food a lot. Unless you're well-off, fast food can be too expensive, and it's not that healthy. Some poorer people eat a lot of fast foods, though, because meat and vegetables are expensive, and at least fast food usually gives you servings big enough to satisfy. In the US we *love* beef. I think it's our most commonly-eaten meat, except for breakfast. We have it in so many forms it's bewildering. And that's before it's cooked! In winter, beef stews are very popular, recipes from many countries. The meat - usually a tough, cheaper cut - is cut into smaller squares, and seared in some fat over higher heat to brown nicely to get the rich flavor. Then the heat is turned down, and some sort of liquid is added to just cover the meat along with seasonings. A lid is put on the pot, and it's simmered a few hours until the meat is nearly falling apart. More liquid is added as needed so it doesn't go dry. Lots of time a cup of red wine is added along with beef broth or water. The alcohol evaporates during cooking, and you only get the wonderful flavor. After the beef is tender, we often add root vegetables of all kinds and cook until they're tender. In the US, one of the most common combinations is chunks of potato, pieces of carrot, and onions. But you can also use celery, squash, turnips, rutabaga - any root vegetable. Add the ones that take longer cooking first, and when they're halfway done, add faster-cooking ones like onion and celery. Basic spices are salt, black pepper, parsley, a few bay leaves, and from there lots more can be added. I like to buy a mix of dried soup vegetables and toss a handful in, too. After the vegetables are tender, and about 15 minutes before we serve, we thicken the broth to make gravy, using a thin, smooth mixture of flour or cornflour mixed with cold water. (There are other ways, but that's about the easiest.) Stir that in fast, then stir slowly while bringing it back to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes so you don't get a raw flavor from the flour, stirring so you don't get lumps. Then taste, correct the seasoning if necessary, and devour! When it has potatoes, we usually serve bread with it. We often like crusty yeast breads like French baguette slices, hard rolls, or larger French bread slices. Usually buttered. We'll sop that in the stew. Sometimes homemade bread, sometimes purchased. If it doesn't have potatoes in it, we will serve it over rice, cooked, buttered pasta, mashed or roasted potatoes, or another kind of starch. (We usually limit ourselves to 2 starches in a meal. At least that's the healthier thing to do . 😄) Some sort of vegetables on the side, and a salad. This and variations of it from different immigrant families are a very traditional meal all over the US, and it's always best homemade! Very hearty, and wonderful in cold weather. Leftovers can be kept in a refrigerator and heated up the next day, and it can taste even better.

A lot of folks also raise chickens, ducks and quail here and sell or give some of the meat and eggs to friends. They also raise goats but I never can find goat meat for sale. Many of us fish and hunt too. I eat lots of venison and also eat wild turkey and squirrel. I also eat white bass. trout and other lake and river fish when I catch them.

In the US, fast food is the exception. Most meals are cooked and eaten at home. The fast food business serves those whose schedules dont allow them to return home to cook. Lamb and mutton are hard to find until recently when they began to appear in our markets again, but are very expensive. Beef, pork, chicken, and fish are typical. Duck, turkey lobster, shrimp and other shellfish are available as well as American Buffalo. Use is determined by budget. With stews and larger cuts of meat, it is usual to serve dinner rolls. Whether baked in an oven or cooked on top of a stove, stews are usually a combination of meat with vegetables...potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, etc, which absorb the flavors of the meat juices.

@@TribalPeopleTryOfficial Basil Pesto recipe: 2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed firmly to measure (usually sweet basil is used) 2 large garlic cloves 2 tablespoons chopped pine nuts or walnuts (can substitute any nut as needed) 1/2 cup olive oil 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, or Romano or other very hard flavorful cheese, grated Combine all in a food processor or chop finely and mash in a mortar and pestle. No cooking or heating needed. Serve over hot pasta with extra cheese if desired. Use just enough to coat the pasta as it has a strong flavor. This is the most common pesto but you can substitute spinach for some or all of the basil. I hope this is helpful.

Not because I can’t afford it; I can, but because a 70 year old needs no more than that once a day.

Whilst I love our "western" sliced loaves, I could eat unleavened fresh bread all day every day.

They should try Moroccan beef or lamb with prunes. It's delicious and I think Chaudhry would love the sweet prunes.

I am still wondering what is the crew man saying at the beginning of the video that sounds like "Rasup". What does that mean if you don't mind me asking?
