Wow! As a Filipino I was not offended when the girl said she didn’t like any of the food. Instead I was happy. She’s not faking her reaction just to please Filipinos unlike other KZbinrs. I am thanking her for her honesty and even though she didn’t like what she was eating, she still tried to taste/ eat it.

I love watching all the participants and their honest reaction to all the foods they try. If they don't like something they are never disrespectful of the food which says a lot about their kindness and openess to try new things and appreciate them even when it is not to their liking. I want to send a care package of things to try from Texas, I will be emailing asking for a PO box or address to send items.

For those who would like to try Halo Halo, it's pretty easy to make at home, but depending on your location, you may need to substitute some of the more typical ingredients if you don't have access to an Asian grocer with imports from the Philippines. There's a bunch of different recipes online. Personally, I prefer my Halo Halo with sweet corn (most make theirs with sweet red beans), saba, gelatine cubes, jackfruit, ube halaya, macapuno, ice cream and that little square of leche flan, of course. A lot of the mix-ins are very sweet, so if you want to tone it down a tad either add more shaved/crushed ice or use regular milk in place of evaporated milk. It's such a great summer treat, I always crave it on really hot days and I was so happy to see it being enjoyed by others.

It's interesting that Ube Halaya's translation in their language is "Stand and Mix it." Well, that translation is quite similar to how we Filipinos cook Ube Halaya while standing or just sitting and mixing the jam in a large wok or talyase.
