I wish he had tasted at least one shrimp .of he did not like it then he could leave it .I feel he missed something that he might have liked. I understand. I lived with Algerian people and they had a visitor who cooked for us and used the liquid from inside a sheeps eye to colour the rice .I could not make myself eat it even though I wanted to to be polite

i promise you, the west is missing out on the WORLDS BEST grapes, melons, dried fruits like raisins and mulberries and barberries, and bread, all in Afghanistan. I've always wanted my friends to think it typical to travel to Afghanistan and experience the food and culture. I have never had a better grape in my life than the little green and red grapes. not even these American "cotton candy" grapes have the natural sweetness. they were like tiny tiny sweet caviar bubbles for boba tea but better, and had an amazing texture. love these videos; because the truth is the average Afghan is this sweet, this kind, this loving, this open minded, this generous, this innocent, and we deserve to see the true Afghan depicted.

what I like most of this format is that they are trying a lot of dishes from other cultures that we Western people use to see as the same because cultural ignorance and they have their minute to tell about their own products and stuff. I rather that point instead they try food from USA and UK which are hardly far well enough representated in our minds because of colonialism. @@bindurajeev2822 you must be quiet dumb to compare nationality with ethnicity. Pakistani is a nationality not an ethnic group. When someone says Pakistani clothes, they mean what majority of the people wear in Pakistan. For e.g. pashtun clothing; the population of pashtuns in Pakistan is higher than the whole population of Afghanistan (pashtuns make up only 40% of Afghanistan). Then you got sindhis, Punjabis and Baloch etc. that also share their own unique clothing across he country. You have multiple ethnicities living in a country which get togey with a Nationality caller Pakistan. And of course the food is similiar to what they have in India since the country was once part of the subcontinent. It's not rocket science, just simple logic.

As an Arabic speaker from Lebanon it surprised me how many common words we have

Where I live in Canada, many people from Lebanon have been here for generations. Their food is delicious, and has become part of our culture. We make cabbage rolls, a mixture of rice and ground beef stuffed inside a rolled up cabbage roll, in a spicy tomato sauce. That recipe, if it is made by someone with a Lebanese background, is made with ground lamb instead of beef, and grape leaves instead of cabbage rolls. Some of the taste is from them using cinnamon and mint. They make other dishes, like kibby, which is squares of raw ground beef and spices. I’ve never tasted it, but my husband loves it. And some manage to grow grapes here in our climate.

in 1990 while at the fair in Boise, Idaho there was a Falafel stand. The gentleman running the stand was new to selling food and had just opened for his first year. His Falafels were delicious. His parents were from Lebanon and he was using his mother's traditional recipe. I have not since had a falafel that was as good as the ones he sold.

One strange aspect, not reffering to the food they try or whatever, but has my attention, is that I recognize some of the words in these videos. Today I recognized "kharbouz" or melon. In the dialect of Macedonian that I speak, we use "karpuz" also, but for watermelon. We probably got it from the ottomans, who got it from the iranians. I've recognized other words as well, but I can't remember now. But it's interesting that a dialect of a language can have similar words with a language spoken thousands of miles away.

Actually, that melon looks a lot like old paintings of watermelon before it was hybridized by generations of farmers to be more red, more solid, etc. It might a relative of the watermelon.

My understanding is that Persian is the lingua franca, so even if some of these people may speak Pashtun at home, in a mixed setting like this Dari Persian would be used. I may be wrong thoug.

Interesting that people have this notion! Being Pashtun does not preclude you from speaking Dari. I am Pashtun Afghan and I don’t know a word of Pashto. Grew up speaking Dari, all the other Afghan families we associate with speak Dari as well. Pashtun people/ethnic group and the Pashto language are not synonymous. Especially in Kabul and other highly populated cities you will more likely hear Dari in the streets. I’m sure a Pashto speaker will disagree with me on this, but the only Pashto-default speakers I have encountered personally in my lifetime are Pakistani. I know they exist in Afghanistan but we do default to Dari much of the time. Even on tv, news, etc. however there are dedicated Pashto stations and programs.

They are speaking Dari not Pushtu. I can understand Dari and Farsi to a large degree.Dari is the link language that everyone talks to each other in , not matter which ethnic group they come from, be it Tajik, Ozbek, Pushtoon, Turkmen, Hazara, Baloch etc.

It is incredible how different cultures sometimes have same food procedures. In Italy red melons are consumed fresh but white melons, mainly in the south sometimes are suspended in nets made of wicker and these melons dry on their skin but internally they preserve their water and can lasts for months before being consumed. The first time I tried a falafel I really loved it. I found a local food cart here in town, and there was a Middle Eastern man right before me in line who ordered falafel. Myself, I hadn't decided what I wanted yet, but when he received that falafel with a small side of fries, I decided I had to try it, because it smelled so good and looked really tasty... and after my first bite, all I could think was "oh wow, this is really good!" :)
