Why has the young #bollywood movie become a dying genre in Hindi Cinema. Why has it reduced to become a streaming platform trope. Why don't we get movies like #kuchkuchhotahai #ddlj #yehjawanihaideewani or #jaanetuyajaanena . What happened to the films that made the likes of #srk and #ranbirkapoor household names! What went wrong with #ishqvishkrebound , the launchpad for actors like #rohitsaraf Pashmina Roshan and Jibraan Khan. I hope you like the Discussion of What's Wrong With Young Bollywood Movies | Ishq Vishk Rebound Rant

What Mani Ratnam has that other directors don't is he focuses on stories that is universal across all ages. Even the current generation will relate to Mani's movies you mentioned. Certain directors when it comes to making youth based films don't think about the basics of filmmaking and choosing good actors. Archies and now Ishq Vishq rebound is good example of vanity projects.

The fact that 'Ishq vishk rebound' is directed by the same director who directed 'mi vasantrao' is shocking. For those who don't know, the director 'Nipun Dharmadhikari' is a National Award winner and a Marathi film director who revived musical plays in Maharashtra and has directed many marathi plays like 'amar photo studio' ( a play which genre is scifi) and many more. Why he directed this film deserves a case study on itself.

I’m nearly 40, and I grew up watching Hindi movies that made me escape reality and live in a fantasy world where boy meets girl, fall in love and get married. In India, that is a bigger fantasy than superheroes and the supernatural. We have lost our own USP. Edit: in the meantime, Korean cinema has picked up our USP and run away with it

I think Nagraj Manjule had once said, the west is asking us why aren't you making Godzilla but the reality around us has so many struggles, those become our stories. The fantastical leap is something so alien for most who have daily struggles to barely survive.

@@TriedRefusedProductions correct. For a vast majority of India, the simple act of falling in love is an act of revolution, thanks to our stringent societal barriers. Early filmmakers knew this, and that’s why those films resonated with the masses, and still do. What we cannot achieve in real life, we want to see see in the movies. In India, we are already rich with our grand epics, Mahabharat, Ramayan. We don’t need superheroes - we have had them for millennia.

Korean cinema had already had that even in later 90s early 2000s however some of them say even as example my lovely Samsoon and many others were problematic. The women treated badly. Men doing shady things in romcom. Notable ones are secret garden, it had issues even if I would gawk at hyun bin. 😂 Young romances were a hit even then. We had our own too. But they had Multiple love triangles etc but nowadays it's BETTER commercial and globally structured. In the sense that it doesn't feel like exactly Korean but also a story that even foreigner would understand . Idk when you started watching Korean and Thai or Japanese movies. I have watched classics like coffee prince or boys with flowers long time back and even thai lakorn classics.. it's not new ours was different in different cultures.. Also Turkish romcom event oldest ones are a treat. Even some British movies from 90s like say top of my head angus something and others talked about relationships within school groups. They still do. We have had that - we lost the most important genre which we were stable with -romance

Actually everything portayed in films these days is too cautiously created, almost to a point of no flaws ; hence no point of interest. The set, angles, lighting, hair & makeup, jewellery, actors are tooo perfect so it feels made up/ cookie cutter. There are no unibrows( Kajol) , no flyaways, no dark skin, no pigmentation, no pimples, no skin texture, no body marks/ abnormalities ( hritik with his thumbs), no weird haircuts/colors, nobody has any personality or personal fashion sense ( like pooh ) & everyone seems to have a perfect body. Everyone looks the same, their moves are too calculated & storylines are predictable. Characters mostly never make laughable stupid mistakes, or have silly quirks or have character defining moments that show some vulnerability or feeling (think Anjali dresses as Tina or Sanjana bakshi having a complete girly makeover, characters called Naina who have eye problems & hide behind their geeky specs). We almost never feel connected to any actor in any role anymore. So we don't care what happens to them & never feel like any movie these days is worth remembering or re-watching. Honestly I don't even remember the last time I felt anything at all watching relatively new movies. I just watch them with a blank, straight face 😐

Frankly speaking. The young innocent love we had in early 80 is not there in the GenZ. Nowdays commutication is easy plus even a 2nd standard boy has a girlfriend. So there is no novelity in being in a relationship or falling in love in your teens. The game has changed and film makers must understand that. They shoulr bring in yount talents for a script which is adapatable for Genz romcom.

I think nepotism is slowly chewing out Bollywood, but not in the way most people think. People focus on actors, but the real issue is lack of creativity with writers and directors. Almost all of the new directors are from the same social mileu and cultural class, there is no freshness in subjects being taken up. The same story can be narrated in a thousand ways, but looks like there is hardly anyone who can do it. Most of the teenage movies are also set in very high end convent school type with very first world problems. Nothing wrong in making one or two films like that, but if every single movie is going to have broadly the same set up, people are gonna get bored soon enough

@ankit_67-mc2uq So they are filmmakers making it for purpose of entertainment & relaxation not from the purpose of education or providing news that they can’t fake scenarios. Just like sci fiction.. rom comm is also a genre that is supposed to be unrealistic caue it takes us to another world for few hours. If people are actually setting their real standards with unrealistic entertainment then the problem is with them not the filmakers. When you sit to watch a movie or series you know it’s just a story .. not facts or news.

the way Jammy said it in thius end "bas ab horror comedy ka wait karo"... man I could literally feel the disappointment through the screen 😂I also miss the 2000s, mid 2010s era of Bollywood when we used to get fresh and iconic films, where the youth's representation was mostly accurate and definitely not caricaturish . I seriously miss those days when we used to get charming Coming of age movies like those of Ayan Mukerji which were carefree, yet emotionally impactful and accurate. I personally really miss the genre But I seriously think that Hindi mass audience has become too cruel and there's a chance that even if Bollywood manages to make a 'Premalu' type great Coming of age film, it would bomb at the box office. I personally think it's not the story, most teen dramas are tried and tested tropes anyway, but the dialogues that make or break a film. Ishq Vishq had a lot of toxic tropes, but the dialogues weren't as try-hard as say those in Brahmastra and we still remember that movie with fondness. Brahmastra had(s) great potential but the dialogues ruined it for me.

The first part of Ishq Vishk was relatable to the core. Rajiv, Mambo, Payal, Alisha were ever green characters. The college too felt real. The story had a heart, the performances had sincerity and most importantly, the music was so melodious and beautiful of Anu Malik. This so called sequel was an incoherent mess, Unrelatable storyline, alien behaviour of character, remake music, below average performances. They should have made it relatable like the first part and not make it complex.

Yes tvf is doing that for us but I want to watch something like adventure kinda of or science fiction type concept that young generation is exploring.the only young adults good actor only launch by amir khan. Hi Jammy, 1 of our oldest sub. I have a topic that would be interesting for you too. I would like you to please read the whole comment and examples. It can a video idea for your channel and future podcast. So, recently you were talking about the remarks in the Hindi film industry. I am a movie addict and sometimes I see movies which are remakes. 1st example, Shaitaan and Vash. I have only seen Shaitaan because it was available in Hindi. But Vash, I was not aware of it and also it was limited to Gujarati language and I don't know that language, hence I didn't watched that movie and never came across until you said it in your review video. 2nd example, Kantara- Originally it was limited to Kannada language many of my friends from south told me to see it. However, I didn't but when it was released in Hindi too, it was epic and 1 of the best movie experience. Last example, Kabzaa and KGF- so Kabzaa is almost the same like KGF. However, since both of the movies were released in Hindi language, Kabzaa failed Pan India. Based on these 3 examples I have some questions for me and you. 1Q. If I didn't see the original movie, will the remake movie count as the original movie from my POV. (Even you would have come across this situation many times) 2Q. "Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films"- Oscar winner director's quote. If the "amazing" films are not available in the language widely spoken i.e. English or/and Hindi then I as an audience are left with 2 choose a. Look at the subtitles the majority of the time or b. Wait for the remake. The last one is more of a conclusion. If movies like Kantara are not dubbed Properly in widely spoken languages then other industries are just going to copy paste them. KFG did hence Kabzaa failed. Kantara did hence no 1 will even think of getting a success by copy pasting it. Also, there is unsaid desire to see Deadpool like movies in Hindi instead of English. Because it connects to us. I hope you have read my comment. Love Old subscriber.

One of my all time favourite movie about realistic fun portrayal of college life is the Telugu film Happy Days starring Tamannah. It released when I was in college first year staying in hostel away from family, and all of us connected so much with the story and beautiful soundtrack, even though most of us including me were not Telugu speaking. Till today I watch it on my laptop when I miss my college days or friends, and I have the songs in my playlist till today which no one in my family understands because of language barrier but nevertheless loves the songs.

The reason dil chahta hai worked was because of its mix potrayal of drama, comedy which were realistic enough among common people. However nowadays young section films can be differentiated between soty and kota factory. Where soty is far away from our life, kota factory gives a reality check and trauma to the ones who failed to succeed. What is necessary is producers must create a story that can form a story with both realistic and a bit kind of entertainer

So we enjoyed that vibe till we grew up completely into adults. They are sadly living on the used scraps or badly recycled versions of our lives, badly romanticisg 90’s and 2000’s. The most exciting thing that they have is social media which itself is a millennial thing made and run by millennials. If you notice even till today the majority world is run by boomers and millennials but in past the disruptors in the society came from the younger generation, be it Bill gates or Stever jobs in their 20’s or Mark Zuckerberg in his 20’s. Genz are living in their shadows still. Apple and Instagram being the most exciting things for them. All Genz are either busy in making reels or becoming influencers. Nothing groundbreaking. So sadly that’s the reason we are not experiencing anything fresh in this world.

The problem is that the money in the Hindi film industry is controlled by ‘uncles’ like Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra to make a few. They have to accept that their ideas have become outdated. They have to hand over control of the movie to young directors, writers whose ideas may differ vastly from their own. But if they want to continue to make romantic comedies and ‘chick flicks’ then they have to accept that the idea of romance has changed and just like they brought in new ideas in their initial movies, there are many young people who are waiting for a chance to tell the stories of their generation. Let’s give them a chance.
