The second installment had equally interesting storyline, but fell flat because of Akshay, he was literally under acting in front of brilliant actors like Saurabh Shukla and Annu Kapoor. I mean just look at Arshad warsi's monologue in the end of the first film, not even for a second you'd feel that he's acting, it feels genuine and real. If you take Jolly LLB, every characters- let it be Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani from the first part, Annu Kapoor from second part, or Saurabh Shukla and Sanjay Mishra, everyone is so effortlessly natural in their character portrayal.

If they would have casted same Saif, Deepika who are bankable stars with Abaas Mastan it would have grossed more than Race 3 who merely grossed 160crs even with presence of Salman. If we look at at craze of Race franchise and Race 2 collection nearly 120cr then people would have turned into theatre for Race movie with saif as lead who is inseparable from that movie and who knows it might have crossed 200cr mark.

The thing is Sharman is a great actor but the main reason he failed to make a mark is not because he is not as famous as Salman, srk but the reason is he can do only comedies well. His other serious movies didn't work well. Accept it some actors are versatile while some are not. In this regard , Salman is lucky that he has his brainless sheep following him other wise he would have been washed out very easily. Same case is with Ranbir Kapoor, if you note all his best movies have been mostly sad ones. Unless he becomes flexible, he won't last but he has some good movies in future.

Rohit Shetty keeps replacing the female leads in his films. kajal Agarwal was replaced by Kareena Kapoor in Singham 2. And Raima Sen disappeared from Golmaal series (at least Sharman's exit had some explanation). Also, Tabu was not included in Hera Pheri 2. Almost whole cast of Pyar ka punchnama changed (although it can be argued that it was not continuation of the same story). Hindi Medium actress was replaced in English medium.

Even Remo confessed once that Salman didnt allow him to work in his way instead he wanted him to follow the Salman way of making the film. Thats where the film got ruined. Saif had that Nawabi charm in him that made him the face of Race. Secondly, no matter however trash the script be, Abbas Mustan had this amazing talent of still making them interesting .I remember watching Players (I wasnt aware that time that it was a copy paste of Italian Job) and i quite enjoyed that film despite knowing that the script was kinda trash. Removing him from the Race franchise cost the producers a lot.

Please improve your research 1. Sharman Joshi was offered golmaal 3 which later Kunal khemu ended up doing because sharman again had some issues 2. Race 3 was to be made with saif ali khan with a different script but he opted out so new story and cast came in
