What's with the replies in this thread. Not all "South Indians" are dark skinned. Stop saying that like it is a fact. Refer to yourself as dark skinned without labelling your nationality as the same. Also, try referring to your specific state or language instead of saying "South Indian".

Entire Kasaba episode was such a landmark in Malayalam industry. Parvathy had to go through so much for calling out the superstar for misogyny. She specifically mentioned why it was wrong as it glorified the hero's deed. But no-one was listening. Nobody from industry was ready to support her. The actors organization ignored all bullying and rape threats. She went through a real dark time and even had mental health issues. Eventually some people from industry had some courage and they indirectly pointed out things in movies by making better ones. They are often made fun of being politically correct. Many started following the same. Slowly general public also had courage and started talking about it and support Parvathy. This controversy was an important talk point in family get-together and college canteens. I have seen girls firmly supporting Parvathy during their war of words with brothers and fathers and even mothers. Even now when you go through comments under Parvathy's interview you can find the comments filled with insecurities of some men. There was a time when many men in Kerala was scared, "what if everyone ( women ) starts following her deed?? What happens to me and my life and my privilages". All comments were filled with that same insecurities. A famous director who criticized Parvathy later after years said Parvathy was right and he was wrong, during an interview of his 'pro-choice movie'. For more contents like this you should watch dileep movies. He is the king of misogyny in Malayalam. Start with Mr marumakan or Mayamohini.

Angavai-sangavai comedy sequence is from the movie Shivaji. And the irony is there's another scene in the same movie where Vivek glorifies Rajnikant's dark skin when he gets rejected by Shriya Sharan. In the first 2 films, you spoke about how the dark skinned men themselves made fun of the girl. The actual worst part is that dark coloured men are not just normalised but glorified. There is also a belief that the more dark skinned a man the more "manly" he is. There are also songs written about how "a dark skinned man's arm touched a fair lady's hand" and how she fell in love with him. This colorism atleast in South movies is mostly targeted on women and not that much on men.

Actually no, as someone who grew up with Tamil and Malayalam movies, there's always a pattern for this: If the hero is fair skinned, he is praised for being handsome and "glamorous" because of his skin tone. If he's dark skinned, he usually has an inferior complex at the beginning of the movie and a few characters make a joke at his expense about how he's dark skinned which he always takes as a good sport and later they make it so that it's a good thing for men to be dark skinned like you said. Also, if the hero is fair skinned the villain is usually dark skinned and vice versa- i.e. if the hero is a dark skinned person, the villain is a traditionally attractive fair skinned person making fun of him for his skin color so even people back then knew skin color shaming is hurtful but they did it to women anyway. There were hardly any dark skinned heroines or actresses. The only one I can think of is Manju Warrier and even she was made as fair skinned as possible in many movies with make up. Sometimes she portrayed someone of a lower caste and at that time she had her original complexion or even a darker one. She would be the heroine but if she is a dark skinned heroine, her skin color is never praised. On the contrary, if the heroine is fair skinned, they almost always praise her skin color as a part of her beauty.

Being a Tamizhan, while growing up i realized that when Tamizh directors like K.Balachander was portraying strong woman characters through his movies during 70s and 80s,,, there were whole bunch of actors, comedians, especially Superstars went above and beyond to degrade women in every way just for entertainment, forgetting (atleast some act like they do) the fact that cinema is the most influential entertainment in India and how it influences the youth. The main reason is being insecure in losing the mass audiences and hence if any actor make fun of woman in every way, the chauvinist minds would accept it. But the main problem here is still some fans actually implement those traits in real life.

Boy, did I find the opening of this video to be 'jarring' and 'hammy'. In fact, the opening in itself is a 'Matlab Kuch bhi' segment. Laal Singh Chaddha, irrespective of how Aamir performed, is a meticulous human tale that was beautifully adapted for the Indian masses. The cinematography, colour grading, music, screenplay, dialogue, direction, and the characters (which were much better than the original) are a breath of fresh air and conveyed some hard-hitting messages in a vibrant manner, and that's what Indian cinema needs right now- simple, human stories that can be enjoyed by families. With a stark rise in problematic content passed off as 'mass cinema', LSC put Bollywood on a different tangent with its wholesomeness. People talking about 'logic' in the film are the same ones who enjoyed '3 idiots' which followed Farhan and Raju go from Delhi to Shimla to Ladakh all under the same sun, and that is perfectly okay because the film delivered some life-changing messages to the masses in a wholesome package of humour, music, and performances. Stop bashing a film because an actor acted bad, which doesn't even affect the broader themes of the film(and AK was too good in the emotional, mature scenes). Just remember- 'Rockstar' had Nargis Fakhri.

The thing with 'Laal Singh Chadha' summed up: In an alternate universe where there was no hate campaign, the film is a blockbuster and audiences are praising and hyping the film to next level.(Since many average films were hyped in the past and became all time blockbusters) And me, who felt it like just a decent watchable remake is arguing with the ones hyping it that , it's not that great. But in the actual universe where there is hate campaign, audiences are degrading the film to next level and I have to argue that it's not that bad, but a decent watchable remake. 🤷‍♂ Of course Amir Khan's humming in between his dialogues was irritating and in certain places a bit over. But overall he did Okay, not bad. Terrorist instead of Lieutenant Dan was a let down, I agree. Even though the terrorist understanding his mistakes and becoming a good guy was an all right idea, it required more time to develop the character arc. instead it was rushed and messed up. Comparing it with Original makes it worse. But taking all other things in to account, it was Indianized very well. Only the Dark Comedy factor that was plenty in the OG film was missing. Of course adding those elements would have gotten the film banned for sure. That's another thing. So in short, it was indeed a decent Indianized version of Forrest Gump. But again, not close to the OG🐐

I have a theory why the character of Muhammad Paaji went unnoticed under Indian Army radar. Before anyone jump on me, I know in real life Indian Army can never be this careless. I'm speaking in context of the movie. During the beginning of the Kargil war scene the character of Laal says that some local villagers were with them helping pin point Pakistani Terrorists location. So when Laal was saving injured Indian soldiers, when he picked up Muhammad, he didn't knew that he actually picked up a terrorist on his shoulder because his main focus was on finding his friend Bala. So I think Indian Army thought that this Muhammad guy is actually one of the local villagers who were helping them and got heavily injured as well. There's even a scene in movie where that Indian Army soldier was asking "Are wo local Muhammad Kahan gayab ho gaya?". So Muhammad character took advantage of this misunderstanding and kept silent and slipped away when he got a chance from military hospital.
