As someone who has never touched TWoT before the TV series, I am really enjoying it. I do often times find myself with an extreme lack of suspense and wonder when consuming adapations of things I've read the before. Dune, however, was an exception though since Denis did a fantastic job of realizing Arrakis and the Atreides saga.

The thing about getting "original ideas from the east" is that... Well, they aren't original ideas. Squid Game for example is a very common trope of a life or death game show. It's directly inspired by many anime and manga that do the exact same things, to the point where when I watched it I was like "Uhh... But I've seen this all before...". The idea may seem original to you, but the fact is holy shit it's all the same issue over there. For example the amount of anime with the same isekai theme as Sword Art Online. It wasn't a fantastic and original idea, it has been done a million times and has been done even more since then.

The Wheel Of Time book series is good but The First Law and Age Of Madness from Joe Abercrombie are two of the best trilogies out there for Fantasy fans. They are grim, yes, but they are packed with amazing characters. Well worth a shout if folks haven't checked them out - the standalone novels are also excellent. If there was any other series out there primed to become a TV show, it's this. If not, the Shattered Sea trilogy (also by Abercrombie) could well, well, well become a TV series. I am unashamedly an Abercrombie lover haha.

@redpandarampage21913 жыл бұрын
I kind of agree that 'current' Christmas stuff has gotten very tiresome and needs an overhaul. SO much waste and people going WAY over the top stressing that everything needs to be a certain way and perfect or else, and it's always the exact same crap every year like the same bad songs and stuff. Working in retail one year in December made me realize how unnecessarily crazy it has all gotten. It's mostly the consumerist side of Christmas that's gotten crazy, not the religious part. Surely there's a way to do Christmas a bit more relaxed.
@Quantum_Magnus2 жыл бұрын
I actually love the commercial aspect of Christmas but hate the religious aspect. I mean, up until I was 14, I didn’t even know Christmas had a religious aspect to it. Also, I don’t understand why people waste their food. Just package it up as leftovers and you can eat it for another couple of days or so.

The premise Pyrion reads for the Wheel of Time is nothing like how the books read, and they're not high fantasy like Lewis says. They're at least 20 in the books, and they've been just *barely* aged up in the series. It's not as wooly as Lewis describes, and it's definitely more gruesome than you think. There's no sex scenes in the books, and there hasn't been any graphic sex in the series so far, which will hopefully stay that way.
@kolyaisterabadi42773 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Some of their Wheel of Time takes were a bit of the mark
@anderssvarrejakobsen99553 жыл бұрын
Wheel of time is high fantasy. For the age of the characters The Eye of the World is set in 998. Egwene is from 981 so she is 16-17 and the boys are from 978 so they are 19-20.

I watched season one of Another Life, it really is awful. The entire show the characters argue with each other and because you haven't had time to invest interest in any character you end you not caring and hating them all aside from the AI, it's like trying to watch one of those real housewives shows. And somehow they got the go ahead to make a second season which is now also on Netflix. How do shows like this survive when good shows for example like star trek enterprise get cancelled? xD

For me its the animation style I dislike, the ability how people fly or jump ultra high (fake sh!t) and where a pretty girl talks to the main character and they go OH! with a paused dumb-looking face. 🤣🤣 I agree though, some plots might be great movies done well with writing, acting and directing.

Lewis calling the WoT books "lighter" than the show is making me think he doesn't remember how dark and violent the books can get. I guess it could still be considered YA but even the main characters, who are children, have horrible horrible things done to them and witness some pretty fucked up shit. That being said the TV show definitely aged them up for sex scenes which are always hinted at but not described in the books, and to allow the main characters to be somewhat capable fighters for earlier action scenes. I have to say from what I've seen in the show so far I'm not very hopeful it will be able to be the adaptation the books deserve. I dont think the writers and director really get the spirit of the books and just want to make an action flick rather than a grand adventure. I could be wrong though, i didnt really like the TV version of The Expanse at first either but it has turned into one of my favorite shows.
