Located in Miami Gardens Florida.
Hi everyone, my name is Professor Freddy Trillo. I am a 25 year Police Officer, SWAT Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor and Violent Street Crimes Detective in the Miami Area.
This is a set of tips for law enforcement but can also be used by anyone.
In this situation the question was posted how would you takedown someone who isn't necessarily fighting you, but is not cooperating with your instructions, and you want to arrest him. First of all, unless the subject allows himself to be placed in cuffs, in most situations when a subject offers any type of resistance, it is safer to take him down to a position of control, prior to restraining him. This will offer better control and safety to both officer and subject. It is important to note that there are various ways to defend this, and I am not claiming that this is the only way, but this technique is very effective.
I wore the uniform for 25 years. I am still a Reserve Officer with the Miami Dade Police Department on the Special Response Team(SWAT).
I am available for any law enforcement seminars. Below is my information on how to contact me.

I tended to end up in kimura side control. I like the beginning here. Nice and sneaky.

My question would be, if they aren't resisting then why get physical? It's just going to encourage them to get physical.

There are different types of resistance. Passive & Aggressive. Cops can't read minds, and if a decision was made for you to go to jail, they will use whatever force is reseanably needed to control the situation. Unless you have EVER had to place handcuffs on someone, you just have absolutely NO IDEA. Good question, but what is shown in the video, is not violent in and of itself. It is a controlling technique that leads to handcuffing. Don't do any crime, cooperate with police, and should be good to go.

@@Blackbeltcop First off, that is what I am saying. The use of force continuum was not needed here. And we all know cops never make mistakes and never arrest innocent people.

@@InItForTheParking I am teaching a move, as a demonstration. This is an educational video on how to control someone. I didn't create this video to arrest someone who is gladly sitting in the back seat of my car. Quite a few departments do not have a Use of Force Continuum as you mentioned. I really don't understand why are you even asking me this? Dude if you like the video, cool. If not, cool.. I don't care for those that don't. I do this for those that appreciate that I am offering them some techniques that have worked 100% for me.

Would this takedown technique still work if the suspect is taller than me?

Yes if you can reach his neck, no if he is that much taller than you that you can't reach his neck, in which case you just switch to another technical takedown. The more proficient you become with Takedowns, the more options you will have to adapt to whoever your facing.

Trillo Jiujitsu Academy In New York that's how one gets INDICTED! Where have you been?

Indited for protecting and defending yourself? Fine indite me, but good luck trying to get a conviction. What I am teaching is how to safely control the subject with minimal to no injuries to the officer, and the subject. That's a win win. At the end of the day, our mission is to go home safely to our families. Fact is 100% true that a cop with Jiujitsu has much lower Use of Force complaints, and less injuries. FT
