⚡ 💕 / 🌟 ✨ Since they recorded the second night, 'Shine' would have had it's world premiere the night before. This special version with just Moa and Su onstage was for the two 'Legend M' concerts celebrating Moa's 20th birthday in July 2019. The guitar onstage was either one that belonged to Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka (RIP), or at least the same model as one of his acoustic guitars. Since this special performance, it's always been performed with Su, Moa, and one of the avengers as a supporting dancer.

Welcome to Babymetal 2.0, the mature Babymetal. I can't wait to see them continue to grow. Some think the best is behind them. I think they never could have pulled this song off as exuberant 15 year old's in tutus. Babymetal has a bright future.... and I think that has a lot to do with this song. Su recalls this specific moment as her most memorable of the tour because it was her and Moa on stage. After all they had been through together, including the troubling year of 2018 in which they lost both a guitarist brother and a sister member. If you notice, she's actually singing TO Moa for much of the song. At this specific performance, Moa's 20th birthday concert, she saw this song as symbolic of her and Moa moving forward together. The light they walk into at the end of the song...... they are walking into a bright future. I can't wait for the next album.

You're not crazy! The singing, music, choreography, lighting and other theatrics - everything is geared towards evoking a mood, a feeling, an emotional response from the audience. And, as you see, it works beautifully. Even when they tour the world and play smaller venues, without all the big stage production bells and whistles, they conjure joy and hope (while still bringing a crushing metal onslaught). It's a rare and precious thing. We are lucky to live in the era of Babymetal.

By far the best performance of this song. Su and Moa seem to be performing for each other, and it's just beautifully done. Sure, Moa wasn't really playing the guitar, but it doesn't matter, the performance was just perfect. My take on the meaning, at least as far as this performance, is strengthening the bond Su and Moa have since Yui left and they decided to carry on together.

Are you sure Moa wasn't actually playing? I always thought she was, it isn't all that hard a tune to play, and we all know she CAN play guitar, so I don't know why she wouldn't be the one playing it.
@papa_xan3 жыл бұрын
@@jeremyboynowski3784 Pretty sure yes, and most of the fandom believes so as well. If that had been a live guitar it would have sounded different than the track that was played at the end when Su and Moa were walking off and that acoustic guitar was playing, but it's identical. I don't think it diminishes the performance at all, and Moa has taken lessons before, some with Mikio (RIP), but she's admitted in interviews that her playing is rather limited.
@silly_programme50613 жыл бұрын
@@jeremyboynowski3784 To expand on what Xan said, the sound we hear on the bluray is A) clearly the same as how it sounds on the album, and B) the sound of a guitar being strummed by a pick, whereas Moa doesn't have a pick. People who were there report that she was playing live on night 1 but not night 2. And yes, it doesn't really matter - Moa probably could have played it if she wanted to, but even then it would just be about the symbolism, and the symbolism is still there as it is.

It’s such a great song, and Su‘s voice is fantastic. And as you said, the performance fits it perfectly as well. The lights on the audience‘s hands, the smoke on the stage, the stars on the screen - it‘s an all around coherent experience. And the way the girls fade into the background along with the music is cool, too. People say that the guitar on stage indeed resembles the one Mikio played. I would also like to point out the pause at 6:34 (in your video). It‘s such a powerful element after the preceding climax. Sometimes I can hear my own sobbing break the silence. It‘s so good!

Side note: Ohmura plays Mikio's old guitar and has a cigarette of his favorite brand taped to the back of the headstock so that Mikio can come back and visit him at any time. Great reaction. You were getting it right. The emotion is palpable. Yes it’s about Mikio, “Starlight” is more about Yui. The girls spoke of this particular performance later. They were both very moved and the connection between them was emotional to the point that it was almost physical. It’s a beautiful song sang beautifully by Su and danced to perfection by Moa. This is as far away from “Gimme Chocolate “ or “iine “as possible and yet still very much them. They are incredible.

Fun fact: this is the only Babymetal song with an acustic guitar in it! Regarding Moa, we know she can play it the guitar, but she said she wasn't feeling confident enough to play it live, because she isn't practicing it enough since she focuses on dancing, so here she is just pretending! There are a few other performances that give goosebumps like this one: "Akatsuki" unfinished live at legend 1997, and "No Rain No Rainbow" live at legend S! Now we are waiting Arkadia :D

Almost nobody can deliver on such an integrated song/performance. Suzuka/Su-metal has talked in an interview about how she looks up to Rammstein how intricate their performances are and how well timed and trained their team is. But Babymetal surely isn't far behind if at all ! And some Japanese fans do think this was a guitar from Mikio himself (I'm not as well versed in what guitars he owned, etc.). As you can imagine the sudden death of Mikio hit hard with everyone in the extended Babymetal family. Even lots of comments on metal news sites like: "I don't like Babymetal, but he sure was an extremely talented guitarist. He died far to early. What a loss."
@redmoon82033 жыл бұрын
KOBA never explained the intention of the performance of these songs, leaving it to the audience to interpret. I believe that this performance was to report to Mikio that Moa, who was a small child, has become a 20-year-old adult woman and is still active in Babymetal

They have played this song at other shows but, but this was a special one (Moa's birthday), and it's the only time they did this choreography. Starlight became about Yui, and Shine about Mikio, the two big losses they suffered at the end of 2017.

Mikio was teaching the girls, at least Yui and Moa so far as I know, to play guitar as well. I saw someone say she wasnt playing the opening bit, and that may be true for this video, but she is capable of it thanks to Mikio. IMO, this is the TRIBUTE for Mikio! Normally, this song is performed with a third dancer (one of the Avengers) with Su and Moa, but on this special 2 day concert (Lengend M, Moa's 20th birthday), Su and Moa decided to perform this song only with the two of them. It was their way of communicating their emotions, Su through her beautiful vocals and Moa through her emotional dancing, for the loss. Look at the closing eclipse representing a star burning out, then Su and Moa walking offstage together away from that lone guitar at stage center. It was Su and Moa's way of saying goodbye. This "Shine" performance was so great, that I also felt a personal loss as well for Mikio even though I did not know him personally. Isn't that a mark of a great band??

Let it be said that Babymetal never lacks for emotion in their performances and never misses a chance to use symbolism to covey the hidden story behind their music. No official comment has ever confirmed the meaning behind the trilogy of lights, but when they use a guitar, either the actual one or a replica, of Mikio's in this performance and have Moa, who was taking lessons from Mikio, play that guitar on stage, I think the meaning is pretty clear for the fans. Think it's tuned to DADGAD, so Moa needs only play single finger barree (though she can play some chords actually). As David M, i am 59 too haha, and theres hardly (if any) band that performs like them in my opinion. The bad thing is: wait til you saw the whole Sakura Gakuin stuff.
