I would have liked to see a more modern up to date gas weedwacker piston replacement. It presents a different set of problems. Like my screwdrivers were to big to get in the shaft hole to remove the clutch assembly screw. So I used a different method to get to the screws to remove the head. Great videos as always.

So helpful I'm just going to buy a new trimmer. My Ryobi has been worked on twice. Each time at a cost of $96 I kept hoping that that next time was thee time. And I had $150 in attachments - Edger and blower - that I didn't want to give up. Now it pulls easy and I'm pretty sure the rings are shot. There are some nice electrics where I dont need to buy gas Im gonna look at.

Didn't he say replace the cylinder at the same time? Warranty was refused on my 2 month old Husqvarna trimmer stating that it had a scorched cylinder and was my fault. No idea what went wrong think it had 5 hours on it, I did put in fresh gas and proper oil mix. That new Husqvarna was going to replace my 30 year old Ryobi I've maintained which still runs pretty good but needed a few pulls before it fires up. Like to get parts and fix it on a rainy day. Anyways got couple of those electric 80V trimmers and couldn't be happier. Only issue was one of the batteries went bad and replaced under warranty.

Question- I have a Stihl that i exactly the same crankcase you are showing here with 2 bearings facing each other in housing so you cant get behind them to knock them out. book says heat to 140C and tap on hard surface and they will fall out either end. I have done this and hit a bit harder than instructions and they are not budging due to old age stickyness likely. DONT want to risk cracking case with to much force so any way i can get those bearing out without damage as need to get at least one out to replace oil seal as having on and off idle lean issue when its hot and pressure test at 9 lbs didnt show leak. I figure its when crankshaft is turning or seals are getting hot then leaking slightly? so replacing the 2 gaskets and one oil seal too to be sure CC is air tight at any temp. Thanks

You have awesome videos! I have a question you may be able to help me with. I have a Ryobi SS30 that I can not get started. I have watched several of your videos cleaned the carb because I thought that was my problem because when I shot some started fluid in the carb I thought it was trying to start but it never did. I have checked the exhaust and the spark arrestor screen and they are fine. I have also checked for spark and I have good spark at the plug. The only thing I can think of is maybe the piston and cylinder head may need replacing? What are your thoughts on this issue. Also, do you know the factory settings for the high and low carb adjustments because a guy at work said that they needed adjusting when I first began having a problem with the machine so he adjusted them and now it will not even start....even with starter fluid in the carb. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

What is the reason you're removing the clutch and flywheel - it almost looks like unnecessary. Would it be possible to just remove carb, exhaust and than cylinder. Didnt see anything preventing to do repair without disassembly of the front side of the engine.

Thanks for the question. In some cases you may not need to remove the clutch and flywheel, but I think in this case we just found it easier to access the piston. Thanks for watching!

Juan horn I would but it’s working perfectly now and I don’t think my parents would enjoy me taking it apart yet again. But take the back cover and gas tank, carburetor and carburetor housing off and you should have a view of the crankcase where the piston rod can be slid out, just unscrew the cylinder head and do a little wiggling ti slide the piston rod out.

@frankg62457 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't that new ring just burn up cause the cylinder wasn't honed?
@FIXTechGuides7 жыл бұрын
Depending on the condition of the cylinder. If you hone the cylinder too deeply you'll need to use oversize rings to keep your compression. Most of these manufacturers don't offer an oversize replacement.
@frankg62457 жыл бұрын
Honing a cylinder is to score the cylinder so the new rings can be broken in properly. Honing to much can cause out of round cylinder. So honing isn't ment to remove much metal. You won't lose much compression by honing. If you're removing metal to clean the cylinder you should really use a boring bar so you can keep the cylinder round. Measuring the cylinder will tell you if you can bore the cylinder without having to step up to the next available ring size. You can go up to .010 with a standard size ring. If you're over that then you will need to goto the next available size of .020 over. Most of time you can use a different manufacturer to get the right size of rings you are looking for as long as you have the right ring dimensions and measurements. Like if your compression ring is a Barrel Face ring and the second ring is a Wiper ring and the 3rd type of ring is the oil ring such as Steel-Vent ring Type 710 Spacer Type 716 Rail Type 825 OilInnerSpring. There is charts online that has the shapes of rings so you can figure out what combination fits your product.
@doctorboy58924 жыл бұрын
@@frankg6245You gave a good explanation of the difference between honing a cylinder and a cylinder rebore. Honing is just smoothing the walls so the piston rings don't rub and burn up like you said.
