Thank you so much! You answered every question I have about my hydrangeas and trimming. Especially the big leaf ones. I have endless summer and have trouble getting them to bloom. I thought maybe they were in too much sun or we pruned them at the wrong time. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one that is having trouble with them.

Very helpful!! All types in 1 video!! I trimmed my mountain tuff stuff hydrangea and lost most blooms this season🤦 Definitely will remember this for next spring! Thanks so much Heidi! My gatsby star also had some winter damage so didn't bloom this year but both varieties put on lots of new growth 💚

Thanks Heidi! Man, if I can ever get mine growing I will use the tips in this video😂 I'm really struggling in zone 6b, clay/alkaline soil here in Utah! Thanks for sharing! I bought a candy corn spirea, because of your video and LOVE it! The Fall color is amazing! 🧡🍁🌾

Isn't it frustrating when you can't change your soil type?! I would suggest that if you can amend the soil, where you are planting, at least 12" down (it would be better if you could do 18-20") then it would give your plants a boost at the start. I'm so glad you love your Spirea!

Thank you. I have the old fashion Nikko Blue hydrangeas. I will attempt to trim them in the spring. They always get winter killed at the tips. Zone 6 b PA
@gardencrossings3 жыл бұрын
Just remember they will only bloom off of old growth. So if you trim in the spring you will more than likely not get any blooms. But if they are big you have to trim at some point. Don't be afraid to trim aggressive since you won't want to do it again soon and sacrifice the blooms (if they happen). If you always get winter kill you may want to replace.

This is great for beginners like me. I've never pruned any. Except last summer I clipped a few to bring inside and thought I damaged it but that hydrangea got so tall this year like almost 9ft! 😂

They are a Bigleaf Hydrangea that blooms on new and old growth. I do have some Clematis videos on KZbin. Stay on our page and search clematis.

What kind of smooth hydrangea are you trimming. Is it an Annabelle, Incrediball or Invincibelle Spirit?
@gardencrossings4 жыл бұрын
It is the Incrediball Blush I believe.

Annabelle, that is.

Yes, that makes sense. They can handle a hard trim.

The deer devoured most of the buds on my hydrangeas this spring. How do you prevent this?
@gardencrossings4 жыл бұрын
You can try to use deer repelent such as Bobbix, Plant Skyyd, Liquid Fence etc.
