I am 70. When I was a little girl we had a local cobbler. He would let you watch him as he worked. The place smelled of high quality leather and wood. The cobbler was from italy although he spoke Italian and English. I loved watching all the details. I remember taking our families good shoes and leather purses for repairs. Soles, half soles and heels were usual. My moms high heels were always needing heel tips and sometimes dying. He repaired my and my sisters’ tap shoes and our ballet slippers & toe shoes. Many years later my saddle shop smelled similarly. These artisans show you why expensive shoes cost what they do.

My Daddy was a cobbler. He was a master of his trade. Nothing yet asvtoo much trouble, a gentle unassuming soul. He always had a mouth full of nails, grubby hands that were black from the dyes and stuff that he used. As long as he had his radio on and a full thermos he was a happy man. He retired due to ill health but built a shed out the back of the house and transfered all his tools from the shop. He tinkered for years until he passed. I have 3 brothers who didnt show any interest in the trade. My memories live with me, the sticky stuff highs and the tapping of the hammer, I miss him. Your one special man, continued success❤

@@Ori_fr I understand the logic and you are correct but you mentioned "at least 500 bucks" meaning more then 500. But I agree art work should be rewarded especially if there is an emotional attachment to the shoes!

Delight to see a skilled tradesman at his best, absolutely mesmerizing, 350 quid for maintenance of such quality shoes, quite reasonable, I'm lucky to know a few real tradesmen, dry cleaner, benz man, my watchmaker and the fella that takes care of my Vespa, i consider myself fortunate, all take great care of things I enjoy and charge what is needed not excessively all the while maintaining the value.

A boat load of memories came flooding back watching you work. My uncle was a Cobbler in the US for almost 40 years....watching you work reminded me of being a child watching Uncle Elvin resole shoes. Such amazing skill and talent you have. Thank you so much.

Labor of love and skilled craftsmanship. 👏👍 The world today is strange - KZbin channels showing people stuffing their faces all day or salacious "influencers" peddling merchandise have millions of subs, while true craftsmanship and earnest labor doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

This video has 2.5m views. I think people definitely appreciate and enjoy watching a craftsman display their hard earned knowledge.

Did not search for this, but somehow watched the whole thing. I will never own a pair of shoes deserving of repair, but I applaud the level of skill and dedication required to do this kind of work.

Don't be so sure. I was at a second hand shop just yesterday and saw a worn, but very nice pair of traditionally constructed shoes. They were only $3. If they had been my size I would have bought them and had new heels put on.

I am a fan of the work ethic 16:08 removing the stitching - "we are here to work".now that's a quality the shines by its absence.
