Trip Report | Brand New Qatar Airways B737 Max 8 | Doha - Abu Dhabi | Qatar Airways Economy Class

Welcome on board the brand new Qatar Airways B737 Max 8!
As soon as I saw this aircraft entered service I had to book myself a detour to fly it home to the UAE and here is the result!
Qatar Airways purchased these aircraft to quickly increase the short haul capacity.
They will be mostly deployed on flights shorter then 1 hour around the Gulf.
It is an odd aircraft in the fleet as there are only 9 ordered, but have a look what awaits you if you get to fly on one of these.
Enjoy this short hop to Abu Dhabi with lots of plane spotting in Doha.

The presence of IndiGo in the Gulf Region is just phenomenal !!

They have tied up with Qatar and codeshare with them just like they do with Turkish. This has increased the connectivity in Europe and now they are also planning to offer tickets for North America. The downside is that you have to check if the Qatar or Turkish tickets you are being shown on ticketing websites actually have Indigo flights on the Doha-India or Istanbul-India sector as they have no entertainment, very limited food, and many are on Indigo aircraft (A321) which has limited legroom.

The presence is huge indeed, specially in Dubai. And yes, they do operate some flights with QR code share, I guess as QR can’t access India themselves more. You earn QR Qmiles on those flights. And they’re more affordable. I just flew on their A321neo and found the legroom to be better vs the A320neo. Can I be correct?

I once went from Dubai to Doha on Qatar A330-200 for watching some Semi-final and Final matches in 2022. They have such good seats even for a flight that's hardly an hour long. They also gave seatback screens even for short flight. My return was on an A330-200 again. Emirates used to fly to Doha long ago, they stopped now-a-days, I don't know why did Emirates stop flights to Doha.

Retrofitting is in progress from what I heard, and a new plane is still a very up experience. If they like how the Max helped, they would probably order more for the a320 replacement with a new cabbin, and that would be amazing, in my opinion! Best airlines, in my opinion, depend on the people,what they, what they expect, and how the things goes. But, well, another great video!

Another is that these jets are S7 airlines ntu’s (not taken units). Hence they’ve come in a slightly underwhelming cabin. But again, retrofitting is in process

I wouldn't hesitate for a minute flying the MAX-8 all the way from Europe. The aircraft is phenomenally comfortable, with a beautiful and quiet cabin; the seat reclines and has an adjustable headrest - QR's excellent service and catering would just be the icing on the cake for me. For me the small lavatories and the 'spartan' furnishings are not a problem. I'd rather have a quiet cabin!

With the global demand and supply shortage, Qatar has to use this configuration so as not to be short of aircrafts that are much needed to cover all the flights. As soon as the supply chains recover, they are retrofitting that interior. And yes as you said, Flydubai offers a more superior business class class in middle east, with lie flat seats on a narrow body, also flydubai's economy class on max is superior.

Funny to see it on such an ancient design. QR really shot themselves when they mistreated a major supplier and lost the A32N order as a result. Now they are operating a constantly warmed over design from the 60s, which itself is very much based on the 707 from the 1950s. The shame!

Also, I feel that Hamad International A/C seems to struggle a bit when the outside temperature is above 40C. Looking forward to your next video

Hi Alex, I do not think QR selected small loos and device streaming entertainment. If you look at the seats - they have a yellow/green stripe, a typical colour of S7 airline. QR picked these ones ASAP so they did not have a chance to configure these airliners at QR standards. Everything was previously selected and installed for S7

Don’t know what’s the issue going on with QR their decline astounding, with Riyadh Air on the prowl if QR doesn’t up the game it’s kinda going to end up bad on them. It seems after WC they have switched off

I have to say I’ve also had some great flights recently. But mostly below average for the expectations one has. In my opinion the decline is due to fast growth, inexperience of a lot of new people and tough conditions for those that are experienced ( I know some pilots and cabin crew… it isn’t easy..)

This is such an incredibly beautiful trip report, well detailed and relaxing. I absolutely prefer boarding using a bus as well because of the views. A 40 minutes taxi is really crazy ngl, that is one big airport… but the views are worth for me. As for the 737 Max, I am disappointed a bit as well. I think they could have done better with the hard products.

Nice video! Just saw the Prime Video Down Fall: The Case Against Boeing and the Frontline documentary Fatal Flaw (specifically dealing with the failure of this aircraft). Seems that Boeing was looking for an inexpensive fix to their aircraft lineup? I wonder if this addition was a solution to Qatar’s capacity problems and after the fall out with Airbus, a solution for both the carrier and the manufacturer? Nice that they provided breakfast! They sorted out their dust up with Airbus on the 350s painting issue. A settlement was reached and the a350s are back on air now.

Hamad Airport experience just utterly appalling!! Really shocking! On board, yes average and with showcasing being worlds best airline it does raise eyebrows! QR domestic runs on the MAX 8 is new to them and with some other comments the Max 8 would be better utilized on medium routes. Pardon my question from someone who has yet to try the new Hamad Airport, but I’ve seen plenty of KZbin videos on Qatar Airways first and business class lounges at the Doha airport and both of these seem very, very nice. However, this “Gold &Platinum” lounge is separate and clearly has less of a “Wow” appearance! Is this QR’s lounge for smaller airlines ? Wonder why they neglect their lounge?!

Good seeing your here Charlie! The First Class lounge is great and so is the Al Mourjan Business lounge, but it’s a nightmare in the morning time like now. It’s packed to the brims and I fear it. So, in order to cope with high passenger numbers, QR’s highest frequent flier tier passengers (Gold and Platinum) have 3 separate lounges for themselves. It’s basically the same drink and dine on demand experience with a buffet, but a private lounge with the same amenities. It’s actually the same thing as the business class lounge, just not that huge. And the one I went to is new and has way less people. Few know about it. So I was surprised to see this!

Good video bro But I have 2 remarks : * Leap 1B engine is smaller due to B737 layout, too close to the ground, not because lighter therefore more fuel efficient (FYI Leap 1A is more fuel saver) * Those B737 with limited ancillary entertainment svc and small toilet cause it was built basically to S7 (Lowcost airline), the deal came as a planB VS cancellation of A321XLR/Neo from Airbus Thank you again for your efforts :))))

Hey there! Yes, you’re right But it is lighter too as it’s a bit smaller. It’s around 200-300kg lighter vs the 1A. And yes, the aircraft was made for S7, but as a top airline like QR is they could perfectly have fixed that to make it more consistent. They didn’t feel like it and put the airplane straight into service. So now at QR you have over 15 different kinds of products and cabins. EK took over an A380 from Malaysia Airlines and ensured it was 99% up to their standards. The only visible difference from a previous owner is that there are no electric blinds in the Business Class!

QR’s original A320’s do have IFE. It’s the ex Al Maha ones that don’t. Those were meant to fly in Saudi Arabia. The lounge was indeed quite an insult. I hope it improves..

@@ZRHTrainspotter Emirates is trash it only has A380 and 777 and doesn’t even fly to as much destinations as Qatar because fly Dubai took over many destinations also Qatar cabin crew are so much nicer and trained than Emirates. Also Qatars cabin is more modern than Emirates ones and Emirates has a 2-3-2 business configuration but Qatar only has 1-2-1 or 2-2-2 and has sliding doors in its business class but Emirates only has that in First class and Qatar is cheaper than Emirates

I definitely find it weird for qatar to use a 787 but again this was the cause of the aircraft shortage. My opinion on the cabin is the same but because these planes were originally for another airline i believe that the cabin couldn’t be changed.

Of course it can be changed, they just didn’t want to! I know it takes some more time, but in life its best to do things slowly and right than fast and sloppy.

It now is a Qatar Airways aircraft. As a 5 star carrier it is their own responsibility and choice to update the interiors or not. Emirates also took A380’s that we’re meant for others and updates the interiors. So did Qatar Airways with 2nd hand aircraft, such as B777’s. So there is no excuse for them!

They occasionally have good offers. Qatar is for me most of the times the cheapest airline. I’m flying them back from Croatia to Dubai with my family of 3 and I only paid 800$ for all of us, which is a good deal.

I wanted them to install Qsuites on these 737 max 8s, sad they didnt. Also they put IFE on their A320s which are older than these 737 max 8s

I don’t think Qsuites would ever fit here. But they could have done similar beds as on the A320’s..Or at least install IFE. It’s very simple for 5* standards..

Yes, but as a top tier airline they are they should update interiors according to their level. It isn’t the first time they buy 2nd hand planes. And many of those were retrofitted. So it’s not really an excuse. Another reason not to boast to be world’s best.

I think their cabin is still a work in progress. I just don’t see Qatar saying this is their final product for their MAX aircrafts

I’m quite sure it is.. But the Max 10’s will get a different interior for longer flights.

No, small aircraft don’t really experience more turbulence. It’s almost summer so the air is very hot, and hot air is more turbulent/unstable. It is also a very busy air corridor so it’s likely we had another plane ahead of us.

Oh ok... I thought the bigger the plane the less turbulent it will be....like a wide body. Was thinking of flying from Brisbane to either Bali or Fiji and was trying to decide which airlines I should go for , any advices?
