The Triple H and Kevin Nash rivalry ended in late 2011 after a few set-backs. Their WWE feud storyline began all the way back in the Ruthless Aggression era and during mid 2011 the angle resumed when Nash returned to WWE.
CM Punk got tangled up in this rivalry after losing the WWE Championship and a scheduled Nash vs Punk match had to get scrapped, leading to a Triple H vs CM Punk match at WWE Night of Champions 2011. Following this a Kevin Nash vs Triple H rivalry was penciled in for Survivor Series however that match was also put on hold due to the return of The Rock.
Finally, Nash and Triple H met in the ring at the WWE TLC 2011 event. To fit in with the theme of the PPV, Nash and HHH would wrestle in a one of a kind Sledgehammer Ladder match. This video covers the remainder of the Nash / HHH feud and the match at TLC.

Many props to Hunter in this rivalry, he had winded down from his full-time run on the roster settling into an office role and yet did incredibly commendable carrying Kevin and telling a phenomenal story. I think the key to it was match psychology, they didn't need 5-Star performing maneuvers and flips to give us a compelling story.

This whole 2011 era was probably the last time WWE was truely entertaining I loved the whole strike and Raw starting with no commentary, Triple H walking out and threatening to wrestle a broomstick for 3 hours even Cena's speech about coming back because he loves the fans was great
@MrNobody91
@MrNobody91 Жыл бұрын
8:57 This was actually one of the better storylines wwe pulled off during this time imo. Like having Cena and Sheamus wrestling each other, HHH as referee, and Punk on commentary was awesome Imo lol. Like just imagine they could still pull off a storyline like this (maybe not this exact type of angle, but just one that everyone got behind and that cause as much "controversy" and had everyone like at the edge of their seat to see what would happen next, who would be the first/next to start coming back and stop the "strike", and just what would happen in general as the show progressed. I haven’t watched anything yet past the spot I tagged in this comment (I always pause the video to write a comment, I’m too adhd to type and still pay attention to what’s being said to be able to like comprehend it tbh), but isn’t this the same time where at some point HHH also like jumped on commentary and grabbed a camera and was the one "recording/shooting the match" with the camera he was holding? I just know I remember at some point that HHH was behind the camera and jumping on commentary as well if I remember correctly at some point, and I feel like this has to be around the time this happens. Either way, ppl shii on wwe and the booking from back in these days a lot, or people I know anyways, but I feel they’d not feel the same if they saw/remembered this lol. Like this was such a perfect angle imo, and especially to have CM Punk on commentary and Hunter being the ref lol. Like I can’t name you a better storyline around this time tbh. If you can think of one that beat this one as far as like keeping/peaking your interest, constantly having your mind racing as to what could happen next, and just being so entertaining. I mean, especially when it’s compared to the booking around this time in the company, I don’t think there was a better storyline rat all that was better than this throughout the year and I can’t see anything else beating this out as the best angle of the year for sure. Again, if you can think of a better storyline/angle that took place during this time that was as close to being as entertaining, intriguing, and that was even anywhere remotely close to getting the type of positive reactions this one was able to get once it played out lol.

When it was HHH Cena Shamus and punk they should have done the whole show like that. Cena vs Shamus, HHH vs Punk, then a triple threat Cena vs Shamus vs Punk , then a tag match with a random fan (a planted employee) as the referee and that should have been the show.

Honestly, I think the reason why people don't like this match is because they have been too accustomed to TLC style ladder matches and have forgotten about the Stairway to Hell match (which is basically what this match was), so it felt weird and was wrestled in a completely different way compared to the stereotypical ladder match. To be quite honest, I like ladder matches where the ladder is used more as a weapon than as a platform, you shouldn't always have the exact same match every time when you use a stipulation.

The match looked better there than segments I've seen before. I remember Nash being very lumbering and it looked like he missed a couple of sells. I think the biggest whoops of this match for me was how lightly HHH tapped Nash with the sledgehammer... It's a shame that wasn't sold as a swinging pendulum by Triple H which clubbed Nash in the side of the head and off the ladder. That being said, Nash was an older boy here and I'm sure Triple H did what was needed not to injure him.

The sledgehammer is one of the worst weapons used in wrestling of all-time. Everyone knows that if you're actually hit by a sledgehammer in the head for realsies, you're fuckin' dead. So HHH using it, but covering the sledge with his hand every time completely defeats the purpose. You just can't use a sledgehammer in a convincing way without actually hurting someone.
