What i love about this series is how much it shows for your international viewers the difference between North Island blind fishing and South Island sight fishing - with all the frustrations the latter brings. I tried one summer holiday in the Buller region and went back north with my tail between my legs. You have to be very, very skilled to first spot, then actually catch fish in those rivers - and incredibly patient to not spook the fish. Look how many times you changed patterns to no avail, then FINALLY got an eat. They don't get that big by being stupid. And there's a lot of walking and bush bashing between chances. and you still managed to film lots of fishing angles, B roll of moths, drone aerials, the hut life etc. Well done, mate. Stunning stuff.

@marlsounds 3 жыл бұрын
THat's spot on, Thor_68 and I really hope this is fully appreciated. Over an hour on a single fish means a lot of chances to spook it. And your chances diminish quickly with every cast. The impact of the wind was perhaps understated. Casts needs to be highly accurate and soft landing, not easy in this tiger country.

I am completely new to this I fish in Colorado and I love it but I have not learned that patience, watching the videos, and the fun you have with it all the way up to the catch! Watching this video in full as soon as he took off I dropped my iPad I knew you just won. I can’t wait to have that moment now!!!! Changed my whole out look and approach, thank you so much!

They don't get big by being stupid is true, but they also don't get that big by only eating tiny flies. Great bit of angling to try a much bigger and brash fly in that situation. Many anglers wouldn't even try that even as a last resort,if you do the same things everyone else is doing at best you can only expect the same results. Great film, excellent balance between what a day on this river actually entails, the sights and the stars of the show those beautiful trout themselves. They look very similar to the trout from my local River Leven and Loch Leven,only bigger :)

How do you only have 11k subs? Your videos are on point. I would love to see tails of the fish you catch. It really adds to our perception of the size of the fish. I know it's harder to hold the fish that way, but for your audience it might be worth the effort.

Best days fishing, are often the days you have to work hard on one monster Brown, just to keep throwing stuff you are less likely to ever use, then bam, out of the blue, a surprise take, and how often you can be to late on the strike. You nailed him, and what a reward he was, love your work, keep them coming. Worm imitation, and woolly bugger, every fisho' can learn so much from this vid!

Keeping it real as always.... spending all that time stalking setting up and then hook a shrub and have to go retrieve it right next to it happens too often to me, so glad to see it happens to the best. At least if that doesn’t spook it you have more licence to be less stealthy!

...oh oh oh oh wow. That charge forward at the dry was a real switch in behaviour. Must remember your lesson with this one. Just persist, be patient, go a little crazy, and even go back to basics. Nature and time is our friend in this situation. Gorgeous water so could just stay in that place alll day...night...day. Thanks for sharing. BTW, love your choice of music, particularly when your have piano and the nature shots...

Hi Alex, again a great video showing a master angler at his best. Congratulations mate, hate those sandfly attacking insects! What I can’t understand is that over three thousand people watched your video, one idiot put the thumb down, God knows why, but how could all those who watched without showing that they liked what they saw? Strange aye? Harera

You more than deserved that fish and to see that you make the same mistakes as other anglers makes it even better to watch. Well as we say in Scotland tight lines for the future and stay safe.

mix a small amount of 100% deet with just some normal sandfly repellent. I do alot of hunting on the west coast and that works the best. Just be careful of your eyes
