I love how all the knife techniques work so well with a static or very slow attack. I understand that there are no perfect defenses against knife attacks but I feel that I can call BS on some of them, and this one is one of them. No matter what you do, I would recommend to test your skills under real stressful circumstances; one day, your life may depend on it.

Totally agree. The knife attacker is under high stress and hyper aware. As a 'defender' you cannot move in fast enough before they pull their arm back and hack out again. We train this over and over and you cannot come out without being cut. Defence from angle 1 or angle 2 is doable with these types of weapon/arm control techniques but a fast hacking style movement from angle 5 is really hard to counter without getting cut.

Beautiful aiki I remember this technique have used it many times in the AIKIDO dojo . As well as once when it counted working as a prison officer in the UK. This AIKIDO technique is fit for purpose.

An interesting technique. But I see a retention problem. A simple push with the other hand after the stab is redirected could prevent the side step and so the knife retention would be easy.

Not bad against a single attacker, but I'd be disinclined to go all the way to the ground myself, since I can no longer scan my surroundings. There are plenty of ways to achieve a take-down with an arm-bar and wind up with knee-on-belly. This application assumes "defense", probably in a bar fight or a street fight, definitely against a single attacker. I prefer knee-on-belly since I may need to deploy a firearm to deal with secondary attackers, which is a distinct possibility in conflicts of military or law-enforcement scenarios. In general, I wouldn't take myself down in order to take my opponent down unless I have no option. Cheers.

for knife defense better to look kali or silat from Philippines or Indonesia there system is knife orientated, bad defense in this case and hard to time it.

Strongly disagree. I am a former correction officer, bouncer, bodyguard, and I am actively a cop in nyc. I don't know these guys on the video, it's my first time watching but I can tell you first hand that I've used that knife disarm principle in about 5 separate real life situations and it saved my life all 5 times.
