Except that is not House's type of medicine. Tritter was the literal embodiment of a child throwing a temper tantrum to get daddys attention. People defending Tritter when all he was is a sad little narcissist who thought he knew more about medical science than House did and threw a tantrum because he didn't get his way as a bully. He purposefully hunted House down for revenge as a police officer; that's abuse of power if I've ever seen it.Most of the things that he said about House apply back to him and even worse. He was projecting so hard. House in this scenario didn't do anything wrong. During Tritter's first visit, he kicked House's cane out from under him while he was walking. That is assault. Prior to that, House had only commented in glib and rude ways which are not crimes. Not to absolve House of the things he did afterwards, but Tritter was the provoking agent.

Tritter must have been projecting when he called House a bully. Bullies revel in power. Tritter couldn't handle House not respecting the power Tritter has (as a cop), and so he responded with a power trip. House isn't a bully, since he doesn't revel in power, but in a need to be the smartest person in the room, self amusement and an autistic level of honesty and/or authenticity. The juxtaposition becomes more clear when we realise that Tritter is an authoritarian jerk (agent of control) and House is a libertarian jerk (agent of chaos).

House was correct in his actions, with the exception of leaving a patient in the room with a thermometer left in place. Tritter would have cost the city millions of dollars in judgments against them. When you are sure of egregious Rights Violations like Tritter committed in Federal Court, the City usually just wants it settled before trial, so they don't have to admit to the officer doing illegal and unethical violations. In this case, Tritter had no probable cause to illegally search House. First, the Terry Frisk (from Terry v Ohio) is highly limited in the scope of what the officers can search for. They are allowed to search in and around the person and vehicle for weapons. Tritter went into House's pockets. That is more than a pat search. That has been deemed a clear violation of the 4th Amendment. Second, Tritter abused his authority and retaliated against House for a personal matter. While police often do this, it has been deemed unethical and unconstitutional. Third, the arrest was not usual. A detective has the right to pull someone over, but generally speaking, it is not detectives that do traffic stops. This is called a pretextual stop. Wren v Ohio was decided, and pretextual stops were authorized ONLY if there was probable cause or reasonable suspicion. In this case, Tritter had none. It could be argued the only reason for the stop was retaliation for House not submitting to the bullying tactics earlier. In any case, most judges would throw this out.

It's funny. In almost every exchange throughout the series, I was on House's side in his conflicts. Yet in this arc, I found myself entirely on Tritter's side and wanted him to win. I think it's because, in all other medicine-related conflicts, House was being a jerk but for a sound reason (to defeat the illness), whereas in this case, he was being a jerk just out of pettiness. In this exchange, Tritter took on the authority usually left to the House character, while House was put in the bullied role. In other words, House had this coming. The House/Tritter dynamic always struck me as a serious version of the Homer Simpson-Frank Grimes conflict in The Simpsons. Homer is fun to watch, but viewed from the Grimes perspective, one realizes that, actually, Homer really IS utterly reprehensible and contemptible. Similar situation here, except, as I said, a serious rather than comedic version.
@MrRickulus2 жыл бұрын
House has reasons to be more callous at times, but being a jerk is always just his nature. It's not always about what is best for the patient (that getting especially evident with clinic patients). But, to say House was being petty so you take the side of Tritter is unfair. Tritter didn't like that House was rude, so, he assaulted House. That isn't remotely ok to do, especially as someone who is supposed to be a held to a higher standard (like police). So, House could have responded with a lawsuit and been entirely justified. He could have been like many people and returned the violence, but House chose to go for a non-violent but, arguably, more painful response. While it was petty, I'd argue it is far less petty than assaulting someone for being rude. Then, Tritter goes into a heavily bias investigation because, at least in the beginning, he just wants to get back at House. Whether his motives change throughout to wanting to actually stop a criminal or do anything other than make House's life more difficult is murky. Considering the lengths Tritter goes through, including hurting other people, just to show House he isn't above anyone is neither noble, nor praiseworthy. House is wrong, and House needed to fix himself, but if you go about "correcting" someone in a drastic way, the ends don't always end up justifying the means.

I disliked the Tritter arc mainly because of how ridiculous it got. Realistically speaking, Cuddy would sue the Police department or at the very least file a complaint about this officer abusing his power. He's clearly targeting House because of the bad encounter they had (which Tritter started by tripping House). Tritter even goes as far as targeting the people around House by blocking their bank accounts apart of a "police investigation" which I'm pretty sure is illegal, you can't just block someone's bank account cause they're apart of an investigation, there needs to be probably cause that there's illegal money in there. Tritter does a lot of stuff that realistically shouldn't happen, and if it did there would be serious consequences on the Police departments end.

Yeah, but you are forgetting the fact that House refuses to admit that he can actually BE bullied in the first place because he's so arrogant. I think the cop had his number right - House is profoundly arrogant and set himself up for the fall...and in doing so, demonstrated stupidity...which he ALSO cannot admit for the same reason. That's the whole point. House is so arrogant that he actually generated this situation that he cannot get out of without admitting he is an idiot specifically for being so blatantly abusive to a patient.

David Morse 6'4" High Laurie 6'3" (5:46) 😃😃In this show, House always looks everyone down... and he can... but not in front of Tritter. Tritter here is the 'bad' guy but I watch The Green Mile first. So I don't look at him as a 'bad' guy at all, just a strong and clever opponent. When Tritter told Wilson 'in my line of work, everybody lies', my first thought was 'aah, Tritter is House in police. Yeah, this arc missed one big point... Cop out of uniform happens to pull over the doctor he conspicuously had a public spat with... House goes back to work, Tritter works parking meters and is the defendant in an abuse of power/stalking lawsuit. Also misses the fact that he tripped an actual handicapped person. House is a jerk, but he doesn't roll people in wheelchairs down stairs. The guy also told House how to do his job. I bet he loves being told how to be a cop.

House may not have ever rolled any people in wheelchairs down stairs, but some of the things he's done aren't much better ethically, especially with Mark in Season 1. There's a reason he went to jail and should have went back.

more like from their first meeting Tritter was trying to push his weight around. The guy is flat foot not a medical doctor. If he wanted tests to be done, he could have easily went to another physician and asked for a second opinion. House was under no obligation to run any tests or do more than what he did. He made his diagnosis. It should have ended there.
@The_Big_Jay2 жыл бұрын
Technically, nothing House did to that guy was against regulation. He attempted to diagnose him without invasive processes, and when the man got refused to accept his conclusion, House had no choice to take his temperature to check for fever. The Officer, who knows full well that he could at any moment, say that he does not consent to have him temperature taken, which probably would have prevented House from recommending a "proper" treatment, but instead he dropped his pants.

Most of the things that he said about House apply back to him and even worse. He was projecting so hard. Tritter was the literal embodiment of a child throwing a temper tantrum to get daddys attention.
