I like how you did the exhaust in steps, with corresponding sound bites, that was perfect. Stock didn't sound bad at all, had a deeper tone than the V&H slip-ons with the dB killers still installed. But the last step, with them out, the bike sounds awesome!

If you don't like it put the baffles back in. Take db meter app in your phone and measure the output to the NEW 2019 California noise law which became law Jan 1, 2019. You can find it online how to measure. You should do a idle run to the temp fan comes on at idle to update the ECU. When you put in the k & n filter update the ECU again. You may have to do it several times to get the ecu reflashed correctly.

Took out the db killers on my V&H, throaty and sound great. Maybe a bit to deep though as I may have to start running ear plugs. Going to ride it for a while and see if I leave the db's out or put them back in. By the way I did the ECM run to idle and let the fan come on. Very little deceleration popping. I do think it affects low rpm torque but feel more of a rush around 5000 rpm.
@ronaldvangulden73145 жыл бұрын
Stock and the setup without cat and db killers sound the best imo. They both have a nice deep sounding tone to them. Getting a mapping for the cat delete will probably take care of the popping on decell.

The measurable performance and auditory change after the “installation” of a de-cat (keeping the OEM pipes) on a Thruxton R makes me question about the need to install an aftermarket exhaust at all. Plus, there’s absolutely no need to fiddle with the ECU or anything else. If possible, I’d do that first then, if it’s not enough, experiment with an aftermarket exhaust. I like to hear what others think about this as well . . . thanks.

Another good vid Adam! It's funny, different tastes and preferences... I personally love the decel pop, and I have never preferred any exhaust with its baffle in. But its your bike and you gotta rock it your way! Personally I would have gone with TEC Bike Parts recommendation and not wasted $900+ on the V&H slip-ons and only done the X pipe, especially if you don't want to remove the baffles. To me, the V&H baffle in sounds extremely similar to the stock cans. ON another note, do you have any plans for lighting? I recently changed my front indicators on my Speed Twin to the Motogadget M Blaze and they are fantastic! Also relocated my rear indicators to shock mount. ALSO, was able to use your help from your DIY tail tidy video and do my own version, thank you again for making that video!!! Ride safe man. Keep it up!

Hello. As an owner of a T 120 Bonneville, i would like to suggest you should consider adding a power commander or maybe a Booster plug. That would easily take care of the popping in the exhaust when you release the throttle after accelerating. Your motor may run to lean as you fitted both x-pipe and new exhaust.

Sounds the nutz Adam 👍👍👍👍 here in the uk we ain’t got the police breathing down our necks so much for loud pipes/emissions as you have in the states, I run a set of TORS on my America which gives it a nice rumble I had the remap but I still get the popping from the decel, 👌🤣 but them Vance n Hines do sound good mate with either the baffle in or out 👌 but I would imagine you would run them with the baffle in to save getting tugged all the time? 🤷♂️🤔 Another great video Adam thanks for taking the time to edit and put it up 👌👍👍

I have the V&H pipes with baffles removed and I love it. Probably the best sounding bike that I've ever had, imho. This video sounds good but doesn't do it justice (they never do). Even with the baffles removed they are not near as loud as my past Harley with Screaming Eagle exhaust, but still sounds respectably deep and loud enough when riding with Harley guys. In a crowd I couldn't even hear my bike with the stock pipes and was always incredibly paranoid that cars would not know if I was in their blind spot - they sounded great but just way too quiet. I listened to the V&H pipes once at the dealer with the baffles in and honestly it sounded just like stock to me, which had me horribly disappointed in my pricey investment. I immediately was like, "Yeah, those baffles have got to go." Then the mechanic came and got me after removing the baffles and the computer remap, had me start it up, and I've had a big grin on my face ever since. Sounds perfect. Loud but not obnoxious. Well, maybe a little obnoxious but not Harley obnoxious, which is perfect for me :)

Hi Adam, I’m buying a speed twin that’s already fitted with the EU spec of the V&H slip ons. Are the ones sold in California the same as the EU spec? I know both places are fussy about noise and emissions. I’m hoping that small weld is all they’ve put in the EU version to avoid the baffles coming out.
@vincentp85814 жыл бұрын
Can't really tell with the video sound, but did you notice a difference in sound between the stock exhaust and V&H (before installing the x-pipe and removing the DB killers)? Wondering about getting them for my Speed Twin, they do look much better but if the difference in sound is nominal, might be a bit steep on the $.

Ha! you should see what CA did to the 2020 Thruxton models. My TFC has the cat welded to the exhaust. Forget about x-pipe unless you’re a pro with a machine shop. The baffles are also welded inside the silencer. No more c-clip :( I notice you have the giant honking CA turn signals. I ditched those for Rizoma Club. CA is over agro with the clean air laws for motorcycles. It’s not like LA has a trillion bikes on the road like cars.
