Dickie says he has fixed the stalling issue since then by tweaking some of the throttle & other settings on the bike like shift assist. Hopefully someday I'll get another rip on the big Tiger 👌 Thanks for watching and don't forget to like & fkn subscribe ❤

Iv’e had the pleasure of riding quite a few different bikes as well as owning more than I can remember. My latest 2 dirt bikes have been a 790r and a 890r. What I have learnt riding the bigger bikes is not to fight them. Smooth is the key in as higher gear you can. My 790 was no where near as torquey as the 890. Once you have the feel for the bigger bikes there’s a whole lot of fun with the right hand grip. That stalling issues you had has major issues for me as it is the difference between staying up right or not. When the bike does the opposite to what you expect it can hurt. They are bloody heavy when they catch you out. Love your vids Josh, keep them coming.

Yeah it was very off-putting for me mate I wasn't too keen on tackling anything too technical with it stalling like that. Dickie reckons he might have it sorted now tho which is mint 🍻 I've not been on an 890 yet, only a quick rip on Phil's 790 and that thing was a bunch of fun 🍻 Cheers man much appreciated!

My africa twin would stall like that and was really annoying jerky from the bottom of the rpms. I installed a thing called "booster plug" that fools the intake air sensor into thinking it's colder than it is, making it richin up the mixture. It was a lot cheaper than getting a tuner or ecu at the time and it worked. Not sure they still sell them though or for which other bikes.

I've got a '23 Rally Explorer. It stalled on me once, while slowing down into 1st gear, before a stop sign. That was at 600 kms. It's had a couple of firmware updates along the way and hasn't done it since. Nearly 10,000 kms now. The rear wheel isn't very hard to re & re at all. I've ripped a couple of tires on sharp rocks so I've removed it (trail side) a couple of times to shove a tube in to get me home.

Great review Josh, cheers to Dickie for the review rocket, Surperb looking bike with the goods. Most issues can be sorted with ride time and fine tuning to suit. It looked a bit more nimble on the tighter tracks which is a good thing from the footage. Stanthorpe in July- turn the heaters on, nice. Technology is here, as we all know when the tech shits itself or the 3 button sequence has not been entered as per manual, well all you want is old school. Once again great review and great bike, many adventures to be had on that Tiger. Bring on the reviews ADVenture riders, Loan, like, share, subscribe. 🤙🍺.

That’s a big heavy beast to take off road but I guess if you’re strong enough anything is possible. I took my GSA off-road a few times but I always struggled to pick it up which prompted me to get my 701 and I’ve never regretted that decision. As good as the GSA was I’ve found the 701 ticks all the boxes for me. Somebody commented down below about not taking shaft driven bikes off-road, personally I can’t see what difference that makes. 👍
@MVDBR9 ай бұрын
Yeah not being able to easily adjust the gearing with sprocket changes is really the only downside that I could see, but this bike has really good gearing anyway for both on and off-road 🤷♂ Cheers yeah I'm really liking the lighter bike atm as well 🤘

a) I don't know what I'm doing b) it's a friend's bike and I don't want to thrash it or c) I'm used to a more low-down torquey bike 🤷♂️ take your pick 😁 (probably (a))
@hurry12743 ай бұрын
Good point. Offroad does need a level of baseline revving, and not simply depend on the low down torque, as this ain't a twin, but a T-plane triple. I have a Rallypro 2023, never faces stalling so far.💪
@HippoDrones9 ай бұрын
Awesome to be loaned such a cool bike. I'd not have a distance bike without cruise control again, should be fitted to every bike over 500cc I bet the stalling is the sidestand switch, if it bounces on bumps it cuts the engine as it thinks the stand is down.
@MVDBR9 ай бұрын
Yeah good point mate I never even thought of that, however it looks like it's a documented issue with this model and the new firing order of the engine. Supposedly going to be fixed with a 1kg heavier flywheel weight in the new version 😬 That's what I read somewhere anyway, ah the internet, who wouldn't trust it!

It's actually a fuel mapping issue. Mine did it on the street once. If the bike's firmware has been updated properly, it shouldn't be doing that. Mine did that once on the street when new and hasn't done it in the last 10,000 kms.
@philipminotti42709 ай бұрын
Hey Josh, great vid mate, did you consider that the sensation of the rear end bottoming out may have had something to do with the centre stand? The clunking of the stand can give the impression that the suspension is at the end of travel when its not.
@MVDBR9 ай бұрын
Gooday Phil, certainly worth considering but my jarred back a couple times when I was sitting and should have been standing would back the claim that it was bottoming out 😬 Hope the 501 is treating you well mate 💪
@Kevimoto8 ай бұрын
It's most definitely the suspension. Forks and springs slamming down have a very different feel than the comparatively gentle thud of the center stand. The spring on the side stand on these bikes is quite weak too. When it gets rough enough, I can hear both stands clattering underneath me.

Haha. You're lighter than me mate. Im 81, down from 86 last year and I'm hoping to get to 75 like you soon.
@Kevimoto8 ай бұрын
There is no preload adjustment on that suspension, only damping. Preload is pre programmed for each rider mode, with the rider's weight factored in. It's definitely an under sprung bike (like so many are) and mine will bottom out when I get too aggressive with it. Many people that take these off road experience this. I'm not sure how you're not, but I wish I could say the same.
@leighhorrocks29419 ай бұрын

@MVDBR9 ай бұрын
Oi I'm only 75kg 😅😜 You're right tho most are undersprung, and I've not ridden a lot of stock adv bikes but my T7 was definitely better suspended than the Tiger right out of the box. But of course, the 2 bikes are aimed at different users and also the weight difference is significant 👍 Thanks brother appreciate the comment 🍻

I certainly know what it's like for the bike to just stall, (flame out) the CRF450's are renowned for it, even tho I have a Vortex & FMF pipe, it still does it, and generally at the most inopportune times :( It really messes with your mind, when contemplating a bit of a rough uphill. You'd have to be pretty annoyed that your $35K ride does it, too :(

Yeah mate I think the 500 was prone to it a bit as well before I got the ECU mapped, definitely can ruin a ride when it causes you to dump the bike on the ground more than you normally would. And those 260kg behemoths are hard to stop once they start going down 😭
