Had both the Tiger 850 and the Trident since new, and both times the running-in period was excruciating especially in the first 1000km. Worked out to about 80km/h in 6th gear before the speedo started flashing. Ughh...!!! Didn't notice any diff afterwards.

Yeah, the RPM's flashing before you even get up to speed was annoying!

I just picked mine up yesterday afternoon. I watched a lot of KZbin videos prior to my purchase, and yours were very helpful. I'm glad to hear this take on the bike post break-in period. I also really like the presentation style of this particular video... the multiple camera angles make the information delivery even more interesting. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Glad the videos were able to help, and Good luck with the bike. Happy and safe riding!

I’ve one. No real change after first service. I think you are right about being more comfortable with it, and a being able to rev it up more.
@Mudslidex12 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't think anything actually changes after the break in either. Thanks for watching!

I didn’t notice any difference after 1st service. Turning off TC makes a difference I’ve done 1600 mls now. I keep buying extras though I need therapy…

LOL, I hear ya, I'm constantly looking for things to buy. What did you get so far? Wait don't tell me, I cant be spending more money... No wait, tell me, I'm curious and looking for ideas.

What does turning off traction control do to the throttle?

My girlfriend's daughter bought one of these and she lets my ride it from time to time and even during the break in period this bike would start lifting the front wheel off the ground in 1st gear, if you get on it a bit-- even in rain mode and not even giving it anywhere near close to full throttle. I've been really pretty easy on this bike during its break in interval and only occasionally bringing it up to about 7,000 on the tachometer. I think that I have given it a near perfect break in since I've put most off the miles on it -- she's still in the process of learning how to ride it. And anyway, even in spite of this self imposed limitation, it's really kind of an impressive lower mirage displacement motorcycle. I know that there are more powerful 4 cylinder bikes in this range, like the CB650; however, I would chose this one if I was looking for a bike in the 660 cc engine size. Especially because of its flat lower rpm torque curve and its beautiful 3 cylinder exhaust note.

I bought a Trident 660 about a month ago. I don't think the bike is any different after the first 600 miles. I just think that after I changed the oil and changed the tachometer settings, I just felt more comfortable revving the engine at higher RPM's.
@Mudslidex1 Жыл бұрын
I agree. I think it has more to do with getting more comfortable with the bike and pushing it a little more as the comfort level increases

@@Mudslidex1 Are you going to get the DNK tune?
@fukyu3739 Жыл бұрын
From my experience with now 305 miles on, I've noticed that the bike is just much happier at 5-6k rpm. I've just noticed that since I am more comfortable revving to shift around 5k or more it's just much more fun.
@Mudslidex1 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I still don't know if it's the bike getting better or just becoming more comforting it as you ride more. Either way, it's a fun bike!!
@SuperRider-RS3 жыл бұрын
I rode the bike testing it every day for 10 straight day, after 200km odo I revved up gradually between 5k to 7k, after bike getting used to higher RPMs at higher gears i think the ECU tunes in some way and feels like throttle becomes snappy as opposed to who it was before. This was before 1st service
@Mudslidex13 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s really hard to tell. I wish we can get some confirmation from Triumph on this. I do feel like it wakes up more. But thinking it’s in my head

Its not restricted, you can turn the flashing rev off in the settings, its just the break in indicator they turn off after the first service. You can turn it off yourself.
@islandswerve Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Which setting is that under to turn off the rev limiting? Couldn’t find it.
@edwilliams5417 Жыл бұрын
@christavares4866 are you still in the first 600 miles? If not then its under display setting i think. Would need to check my dash to find it.

Before I bought my brand new Trident I rode one at the dealer that had 2k miles on it. Night and day difference. I don't think its restricted, it has many new owners uneasy about overriding it to soon with the 4k rev limiting. The first bike I rode I didn't even look at the rpms I went by the sound of the bike going through the gears. If you have it close to 3/4 throttle believe me you know it (that's what the manual advises) that and don't lug it and vary rpms. I think it is a bit over cautious at 4k and difficult especially if you have traffic around you. Just wait to ride it to spirited and be sensible.
@Mr_Bean3 жыл бұрын
mine doesnt feel huge difference, cuz I am stupid to rev to 8000 during breaking in...... but now odo almost hit 2000km, i can tell it is running better and better, especially on high way high speed, the power feedback is instant and smooth.
@Mudslidex13 жыл бұрын
It sure seems like it. I'm also wondering if its because of the oil as well? I'm pretty sure they put in a thinner oil for the first 600 mile break in. I wonder if switching over to the regular oil is what also makes a difference. Who knows? But the bike rides great. Good luck with yours and safe riding!

You’re not stupid, you’re just not a pussy like most so called “men” now days. I HATE the bullshit myth to take it easy on the engine. The best thing you can do to seat the rings on a new motor is to run it hard. It loads the cylinder pressure up and seats the rings much better. That engine will run better for longer than a motor that is babied. This has been proven many many times and race engine builders do this. Every motor I’ve ever had from new I run it hard and they run great with zero oil consumption and make good solid power.
@AlphaWolf217882 жыл бұрын
I put over a 1000miles in a week and a half on this bike. I took it easy and kept it around 4500 to 5000rpm for most of that. I reved it higher then than that ever so often in between that time. I disabled the Rev limiter break in on day two. Once I had the first service down, I noticed two things. One it's smoother in the lower gears. 1st to 2nd is a much smoother transition. 2nd it is much more responsive. And that's all down low without reving it past 7 or 8 grand. I definitely think it's woken it up a bit. It's not a completely different animal. It's just had its cup of coffee and is ready to go.
@JerzzyJoe2 жыл бұрын
It's restricted till you get a power commander or flash the ecu. I upgraded the suspension, exhaust and added a power commander on my Tiger 660 engine. Totally different bike now.

Definitely! That's actually true of all bikes these days. They all perform much better than the restricted factory mapping

@@mickleblade Yeah, I'm still getting my feet wet. I think the Trident is a good step up from the Rebel 500 and probably would have been a good bike to start on as well. I could have left it in rain mode while I was learning. But hey, you live and learn as you go.

I've never understood this running in crap for motorbikes. When in the factory before assembly these engines are red lined on full revs and tested for set periods of time. So please just take your bike out and enjoy it right from the getgo.
