I'm 68 and bought an MT07. The only dislike I have is the front turn signals. They are so easy to knock out of the retaining holes and hang down. It isn't that easy to re-install them. Simple and fun bike. I love the torque and the playfulness. I've owned a 2009 Street Triple and loved that for over 6 years. The engine started seeping oil so I traded it in. It was a blast but it was going to get me in trouble. I would pull wheelies on it even when I wasn't trying. At 60 years old that was going get me arrested. I haven't even tried to wheelie my MT07 and don't intend too. I can get around 57 mpg if I stay at 60 mph in 6th gear.

I've never heard a bad thing about the MT-07, well except they say the suspension could be better but I guess that also depends on rider weight etc. But every bike has it's pros and cons. Ride what makes you happy right?

Enjoyed the video. A few comments: Per the owners manual, page 54, the bike requires 87 (R+M)/2 octane fuel in the U.S.A.. The ROZ/RON 95 min 91 rating is in Euro-speak. Basically, 95 Euro octane = 91 US octane, & 91 ROZ = 87 (R+M)/2. The bike is good with E5 & E10, so spending the extra money to avoid the ethanol isn't a bit deal. Like you said, no harm in premium, but no benefit, either. Modern engines have knock sensors and engines tuned for 87 don't benefit from running premium. As to storage, if you want to run a tail bag, I'd suggest considering picking up the passenger grab handles. Even if you don't carry a pillion, the grab handles will make it easier to mount many tail bags. I would also consider a tank bag. Shad makes some nice pin-mounted tank bags, but there should be a few options out there. Personally, I'm not as fond of magnetic bags because you eventually wind up with scratches on the tank. IMHO, 50 is still young. Ride what you like, and don't worry about "image".

Thanks for all the info. I do actually wan the rear rails but just don’t want to spend what they charge for them for what they are. But I agreed, as they will help with a tail bag. I’m hoping some 3rd party starts making a cheaper alternative. The tail bag I have now slides all over the place so I rarely use it. That’s where the grab ha sled will really help. Thanks again for the info

Buy some 80/20 aluminum and make whatever you need/want. Fairly cheap and easy to design and build pretty much anything with it. I use it with things like shelving frames, desks, camper frames, furniture and so on. It would work nicely on a bike for storage under the passenger seat and as a sissy bar for luggage, backpacks, etc just by strapping things to it. Can easily be taken off when not needed

Thanks for watching. Yeah I found out about the maintenance the day I picked it up at the dealer and they introduced me to the service dept and told me I would have to bring it in soon for them to do the first service. Kind of a bummer but at least there’s a workaround
@atxplus
@atxplus 3 ай бұрын
The thing is it's guaranteed for 2 years and that also means it needs to be serviced by a bonafide dealer. After the guarantees runs out then do your own servicing. Also the service interval is massive 10000 miles between oil changes or every year. That should be considered.

I hear ya. I'm sure it is fun, and I would probably feel different about it if my bike came with it. It's just right now I would rather spend the money on other things first. Maybe down the line if I'm done with mods, I'll add a QS. But I am impressed at how fast this bike shifts, and how well it upshifts without the clutch. Downshifting? Well yeah a QS can't be beat. We'll see what happens down the line.
@tg8150
@tg8150 2 жыл бұрын
If you’re already up shifting w/o using the clutch, you need the QS. Otherwise you’re destroying your transmission. I got lucky and found one in Kansas City at some tiny shop. I installed it myself and my local Triumph dealer activated it and cleared the 600 mile service light in exchange for me showing him where the QS plugs in at. Your mileage sucks cuz you’re using premium fuel. Engines not designed for higher octane fuel can’t burn it fully which will kill your mileage and lower your performance. I use regular with ethanol in my Trident since new and I normally will get 55-60 mpg in town. Also, if you go up one tooth on the front sprocket, it completely transforms the rideability of it. No more short shifting around town and lower revs on the highway. Best mod for the $.
@Mudslidex1
@Mudslidex1 2 жыл бұрын
@@tg8150 shifting without the clutch doesn’t cause any harm to the transmission. When you time it right, it is no different than what the QS is doing. That’s why it is going into gear so easily because you have removed power and shifted into gear at the correct timing. The QS just cuts the power automatically so you don’t have to worry about timing. As far as mpg, high octane fuel does not give you better or worse mpg. Lower octane fuel just ignites at a lower temperature which can cause engine knocking on older vehicles as the heat from the piston compressing can cause the engine to fire before spark. Which is why most people out high octane in older vehicles because high octane is harder to burn by compression alone. But we don’t have to worry about that in these engines or most newer ones

@Mudslidex1
@Mudslidex1 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate it. As for the pickup, it is quick, but first gear I find to be a little short and you need to switch out of it pretty quickly. Others have mentioned that as well. If this is a concern, I would definitely buy the Quick-shifter add-on for this bike as then acceleration would not be an issue losing that little bit by having to use the clutch. Otherwise, once you get past first, this bike just keeps going and gets up there pretty quickly

Agree on the exhaust. Unfortunately here in NY they just signed a bill last week called the SLEEP ACT (Stop Loud Excessive Exhaust Pollution). Loud exhausts were always illegal, but you had to have a cop that cared enough to ticket you for it. Now all cars and motorcycles have to have stock exhaust with zero modifications. AND it is now part of the inspection process. So if you have a modified exhaust, you will not pass yearly inspection! As for the jacket...I bought that back in High School 30 years ago to look cool. Now I actually use it for it's intended purpose! Lol.

Great video as always. That engine has 11.1 compression ratio so always use premium fuel for it. You could use the lower octane fuel if you want just to save a little bit of money, but it may cause spark knock/ engine detonation, and will decrease engine performance over time. I absolutely love my Trident 660 and I am getting 54 mpg on the freeway on a average. Just hit the 2440 mile mark.
@Mudslidex1

Thanks for the info. I figured using premium couldn’t hurt and it’s not like filling up a 20 gallon tank so the price difference isn’t so bad. Glad to see you are getting mid 50’s for mpg, hopefully the computer on mine starts calibrating better the more I ride it

@@Mudslidex1 Exactly, the next time you head into the dealership make sure you request to have the latest updates installed. Mpg i am guessing comes from the gear ratio. I just bought one too and in 6th i am looking for the next gear up at 60-65mph. I also noticed my bike was dirty very fast! In 2024 it is still hard to find options for the bike, the seat i like is 400 bucks, it’s the only real option. I opted for quick shifter and heated grips but have not ridden the bike enough to say if the quick shifter is worth it or not. I love the way the bike looks and i am 40, it blends the new and the old so well.

@JoshuaHults

@@Mudslidex1 For me pulling in a clutch is effortless, i bought into the hype so i bought pre installed. The heated grips however were and are a must, they saved my fingers riding from albany ny up 2 hours north in 40 degree weather. The tiger 900 is a superb bike from the review i just watched today, I used to have a triumph 675 and there was no service light on it, seems to be a more recent addition to milk more money from customers. I think the strategy is not for dealer maintenance but to get customers back in to see the aftermarket parts and clothing. Say you are there for 1-3 hours, plenty of time to look around and fall victim to a marketing masterpiece lol.
@Mudslidex1
@Mudslidex1 3 ай бұрын
@@JoshuaHults Yeah it seems all the recent Triumphs not matter what the model, all have the service light that must be cleared by the dealer unless you buy the stuff to do it yourself. And yes, I feel the same that it's a way to get you back there to sell you more stuff. The thing that really bothers me is that they CHARGE you to clear the light even if you do the service on your own. I get it, it takes them time to do it, but that's THEIR doing for making it so that the customer can't do it on their own easily. If they didn't charge for resetting the light, then I wouldn't be bothered and I may even just go there to have them clear the light and browse the showroom while they do it. But there's no way I'm paying them the $75 plus to reset a light!

@@Mudslidex1 anti consumerism at its finest.
