Steve Brown is know throughout the ROCK N ROLL biz and one of the nicest guys out there. Full of energy and great stories of his past. We tapped into Steve's energy while he told us about early days of Trixter, his parents basement where they rehearsed, very first gigs, shopping the first deal, and meeting some of the biggest stars in the Metal. Steve's personality is very contagious. We think you will enjoy this 15min clip. Don't forgot to subscribe to 80s MRB and stay tuned for much more.

It's a bummer that MTV turned a cold shoulder against these types of rock bands. There's no reason that Nirvana and those "grunge" bands couldn't coexist with the hard rock bands from the 80's.

The problem is that back then (and still now, to some extent), the consumer didn't have much of a choice : they listened to what the major labels chose to release, and since the quality of glam/metal/hard rock bands was somewhat diluted, and grunge hit the ground running and became big overnight, the big labels all wanted to sign the next Nirvana or STP or Alice in Chains or whatever, because that's where the big bucks were. So they stopped promoting great metal bands with great musicians who made you forget about your problems, in favor of whiners in plaid shirts who reminded you of them.

Not a huge Trixter fan, but Steve's right about the look, which was not the hair metal look, that made them stand out--plus that first single 'Give It To Me Good' had an organic sound to it which also stood out. I will jump to the past decade, where Steve was called in twice by Def Lep to fill in for both Viv and Phil during Lep's tours, 2014 and 2018 respectively. Steve had their total confidence. Good guy.

I was a casual fan of Trixter, meaning I only knew them from their MTV videos. I thought they were OK, but I never bought any of their albums. I saw them on the Warrant tour and thought they were pretty good. When their show started, their roadies were playing their instruments and Trixter came on stage and pretended to beat them up and take the instruments back. I thought that was kind of funny. They also did a cover of Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" where the drummer sang it and ran around the lower level of the arena high fiving fans. I thought that was cool. Steve and PJ also later went on in a band called "40 Ft. Ringo" which I thought was pretty good. PJ Farley has a couple of solo albums which are really good, too.

But I am surprised he never latched on to somebody’s band, say like Lita Ford has had the same backing band for the past 10 years….just a more stable situation instead of all the jumping around he’s done from project to project.

What’s awesome about this video is I just saw Trixter acoustic and met Steve and talked to him after the show - hearing him talk about Roth and other bands and being humble and cool makes this even better. Steve is cool as fuck. If he has an ego I didn’t see it - and I know how good he is as a guitarist and a song writer. Just wanted to say Steve is a great dude and puts on a great show. Go buy a ticket and ask him for a picture after the show - he will likely oblige.

I caught one of Trixter's drumsticks! 2 Friends and myself got to see Trixter Fall of 90 with Slaughter and Poison at Freedom Hall here in Johnson City, TN. We were on the floor near the stage, and I had a beautiful brunette with brown eyes on my shoulders screaming for Steve Brown to look at her all the while I'm grinning to have her legs around my neck as she looked at him ;) Anyway, Trixter and Slaughter come out once Poison finished their set and all three bands sang KISS's "I want to rock and roll all night" as the closing. The three lead singers sang, three drummers drummed, and so on until the end and Trixter's drummer tossed a drumstick one way which led to a big gang up fighting for it. Then, he walked our way and tossed his other drumstick to which I jumped and caught it barely between two fingers and quickly pulled it close n tight. I stuffed it down my pants leg until in the parking lot. Naturally, the gorgeous friend, Autumn Pearce, asked if she could have it, and I gave it to her. Having her legs around my neck was worth way more than the drumstick.

Hair metal was already on the way out before grunge became popular. Some controversial music videos and live performances by bands such as Megadeth, didn't help matters.
