I also have an old laptop from around 2006-2007 and it handles html websites marvelously, while with today's bloated websites it either takes multiple minutes to load or just freezes, I think. i can't remember the last time I was on such a website on that laptop. worst thing is because the majority of websites people use today are made that way, that is what people both expect and want from a website, even when it's fundamentally terrible. it sure is quite sad desu...

@@Sypaka I've been using uBlock Origin for many years and it's blocked the vast majority of ads. I remember browsing the Internet in the early 2000s, there were plenty of sites with a superabundance of ads so as to pay the bills, only it was much worse because not only was there no decent ad blocker, but occasionally there would be ads that would make noises.

Last time I tried with one, on my laptop before the Alureon issue, either the OS or VM didn't like me that much. Good old days of when viruses/trojans/worms etc. were actually either scary for their time, or amusing. Now, they're all about making money. How sad.

@@chzcake44s Back in the day, startup systems were quite a bit less sophisticated. Upon bootup, they'd access and write to quite a few critical files. I'm not sure if this is the case now, or if it's actually something to do with a different filesystem though.

Most of the oldskool (MS-DOS/Windows up to XP) malwares are made with either Assembly x86, C, Visual Basic, or Office Macro.
