I know that people adopt their grandkids a lot, but if every book banning proponent there did that, WTF is wrong with that county? They are clearly demonstrating an utter lack of supports for the families there. That should be the main concern of a caring community. Are they fed, do they have support when they are home from school? Prioritizing the removal of books from elementary school libraries that do not even have them because librarians do consider age appropriateness when they shelve them instead of the children's actual, physical needs, especially the LGBTQAI community, whom they especially love to target. Bullies are cowards at heart and will prey on the most marginalized communities because they know the laws will protect them and not their victims dues to the systemic aspect of oppression.

I got into a Facebook argument with one of these ku klux Karen moms for fascism about a year ago. She was so upset that I told her I didn't particularly care what specific words or scenarios were used in any book in the public library (yes, public library, the attack on the school library didn't kick off until a couple of months later) because it was up to me to know what my kid reads and I didn't need the library, and absolutely didn't need a stranger to monitor their reading material for me. She had just posted a comment in which she argued that any adult that would leave material "like that" in a place that was accessible by children should be arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and should be forced to register as a sex offender. Her next move was to try to shame me into agreeing with her by posting the most salacious sections she could find. She failed ro see the irony when I pointed out to her that we were on a publicly accessible Facebook page and that by her own criteria she should be turning herself into law enforcement for publicly posting "pornography" in a place where any kid could read it. It's because they fear losing absolute control over their children. Books can show a person alternate viewpoints, teach them empathy for people they might not have been able to identify with or even show them that they have been lied to their whole lives. For hyper conservative parents like these, they want control of their children to shape them into versions of themselves and what they think is right, even if it's harmful or abusive. They do not want children to grow up to be *themselves*, they want them to grow up to fall in line.

There was an episode of the children's show Arthur where a group calling themselves Parents Against Weird Stories (PAWS) removed a series of books from the local library. When Arthur is collecting signatures for a petition, one lady is interested in signing but says it would depend on the books, as she wouldn't want to go against his parents. Arthur responds that "it isn't OUR parents. We don't know whose parents they are", and I remember that quote every time Moms for Liberty is in the news.

I graduated from high school last year. I am also trans. My former school district just passed an illegal policy which would require school faculty and teachers to out transgender students to their parents within 3 days if they wish to use a different name or pronoun then the one listed on their records. I am horrified. I feel betrayed by the place that I spent 4 years of my life at. I'm so scared for our lgbtq+ kids. Kids are our future and it is absolutely abominable that we are betraying them in this way.

I work in local government (in a different state) and see a lot of these public meetings. Unfortunately, people attending to attack others for a myriad of personal reasons is not uncommon. The chairperson ultimately has control over who is allowed to speak and absolutely could have and likely should have cut him off. It seems like this district places their priorities in partisanship rather than the good of the community. I don't know how the election in November went, but I hope the students in this district got a School Board who will prioritize student wellbeing & education over extremist activism.

My daughter has a degree in education and two Master’s degrees. After teaching for six years, she has left teaching and works in the criminal justice system as a jail guard. While working with pretrial inmates, she has broken her leg, and in incident several months ago, was attacked, beaten, knocked out, and had a severe concussion, but if/when she is able to return to work, will happily go back to the jail to work. She says the job there was less stressful than her job in the schools where she worked, the last one being a residential school where she worked with special needs teens, some who attacked and injured teachers in the past- knocked out teeth, smashed glasses cutting faces. In the regular high school, she broke up fights, including several with knives involved, and dealt with severe behavioral issues and threats to herself and others, with little to no support from administrators. Calling the police directly was prohibited. This high school was directly adjacent to the prison, where many students said their relatives lived, and where many fully expected to go someday, too. Moms for Liberty should feel free to educate their own kids (if they even have any). Pornography, explicit sexual material, and other descriptions of issues supposedly contained in school library books, need to be DEFINED. I’m 99.999999% sure there wasn’t a book depicting oral sex in a school library. Kids don’t grow up through high school without exposure to sex talk, including much misinformation, from their peers. Most have access without parental knowledge, to PornHub or other sex sites, at home or away. Moms for Liberty are probably trying to close down public schools, but banning books and trying to make parents think kids are exposed to “porn” at school or being groomed to be LGBTQ if anyone talks about that or acknowledges they exist, are just a couple of ways to get more parents to remove kids from public schools, reducing state funding. (Perhaps they have investments in private schools?)

I was a teacher for a few years. It was awful. I started having intense Sunday night blues, that turned into anxiety. I worked at lower income schools. The staff were just as terrible as the students. The math lead in my department didn't know how to use a computer. I deliver pizzas now, trying to get into the IT world. It doesn't pay anywhere near but my mental sanity is worth more than what they paid at the schools.

The timescale this phenomenon occurs on is unfathomable to someone who has only lived a few decades and can only live up to a century. I understand. It's a lot. You don't need to know it, either. Ignorance is your friend. But if you are among those who think differently, I preach tolerance.
