Both the Xbox family and the PS4 and PS5 controllers are using the same mass produced model for analog sticks, which are not as tight as past models as I almost never have problems with drifts with the Game Cube or the PS2 and PS3 controllers, which tells me that they were more tightly assembled or had smaller pieces as larger pieces tend to get dusty and that dust with humidity turns into a sticky substance that causes drift.

The hope is that the dirt will be removed from the contacts and drain out of the inside through holes in the case...or at a minimum at least be removed from the contact and collect in some other area of the stick. I mean, we all clean our homes and after we do it once, they stay clean forever, right? I washed my car once and even after driving through more snowy, salted roads, it's still perfectly clean, no need to wash it ever again! 🙄 Of course cleaning is temporary. Of course they can get dirty again. And of course mechanical wear will still happen and break it to the point of needing a new potentiometer. Nobody thought cleaning was a permanent fix, so enough with the stupid "this is temporary!" comments already. You aren't imparting any useful information.

TronicsFix what do you do when you accidentally strip a screw on a console and a screwdriver no longer works?
@PEJED3 жыл бұрын
Is the left stick on the second one supposed to return to its normal position or not? 4:26 Btw love your videos.

They all can stick like that until you put the thumbstick caps back on.

I've cleaned a few myself and still didn't help. I've figured replacing them would be best. Maybe I'll give that BW-100 a shot before I head that route
@MyRegardsToTheDodo3 жыл бұрын
What did you use to clean them?
@EveryDayRetroGaming3 жыл бұрын
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo I opened up my ps4 controllers and used isopropyl alcohol to clean those little disks and what they are touching.

@@EveryDayRetroGaming did it work?
@EveryDayRetroGaming3 жыл бұрын
@@adambennacer Sadly no. The controller was just 2 months old when it started drifting. It drifts on Death Stranding and Minecraft pretty bad. Most other games it's alright.

13:17 how does the electrical connection relate to the physical position of the stick? or is the detected position moving even though the physical position isn't?
@downesg3 жыл бұрын
The component that handles the movement is basically a resistor that varies based on position. A voltage is applied and measured on a pin that moves along that resistor. The resulting voltage is translated to position by the hardware/software that is involved in reading signal.

Would you say the BW-100 cleaner is better than WD-40 version? I only like the BW-100 because it dries quicker .
@Tronicsfix3 жыл бұрын
I've not tried WD-40 but you mentioned one of the things that is great about BW-100...it dries fast and doesn't leave a residue.
