@chawkfan944 жыл бұрын
@@pedrorezende4873 Going with liquid metal from the factory is NEVER a first choice. I think its because they were so in love with the shape, they had to overcome their limited amount of space/limited amount of heat sink allowed because of the shape. I think the SSD internally is a bit of a game changer when it comes to repair, and tinkering updaters. If that SSD dies it can be replaced rather than having to re-ball the memory chips placed on the board. One advantage it has over PS5 since the chips on the mainboard are not replaceable. I have a couple e-mails into my friends at Microsoft to see if they will make the SSD available as parts after the first couple years. In theory nothing is stopping you from putting a DRAM cached SSD when they miniaturize a bit as a replacement. It is a full PCIe 4.0 of Gen 4 lanes. It just uses the RDNA2 feature of shared system memory to cache SSD addresses. It is faster than a normal computer doing that because the GDDR6 is much faster than DDR in a computer. From teh build quality and the sandwich design you know they want it to last.
@VeteranChild Жыл бұрын
if only this were true:/
@thepoliticalstartrek Жыл бұрын
@@VeteranChild Whats not true? It is Gen 4 x 2 lanes. The memory on PS5 is a custom chip with compression built into the chips. So you can not buy off the shelf chips. MS did copy some protection on the SSD. However, that can be copied. Other than that they have Toshiba and WD SSD as internal storage a standard M2. MS is in the process of removing the hardware white list and encrypted partition.

I always used an extra fan pointed to suction holes on my PS4 and my console was always very cold and quiet (because my extra fan is not loud). I used this because I don't want my console to die after the warranty period is ended because repairing will be expensive and so does console replacing.

Can't wait to see the Verge's teardown with that one guy who has those nice hands and who always applies the perfect amount of thermal compound. You two should do a collab

That looks pretty reasonable to repair if something goes bananas. I like the modularity. In terms of the disc drive, it looks like they didn't have any major problems, if you look hard enough there will be a small change somewhere.
