My 3hp evinrude I did last fall was glogged up with mud and sand and it must have sat that way for along time. I use a pick, a small drill and weedeater line through the head. Finally got it and started pumping again through the passages

T Mike, (lil Mike in cajun). something else to look for, where the water pump plate seals to the lower housing can become distorted and uneven, you do everything right, and it still wont pump.. if you take some good permatex RTV and seal the stainless steel plate to the bottom housing, it will pump like new.. thanks for the vids. not sure if theres a way to flatten or straighten the housing that the pump plate mates to . would be tough running a flat file across it with the shafts in the way..

Mike Another awesome video. Thanks for all you do! Can you comment on these things. 1. Desired cylinder head temperature 2. Wasn’t the water tube upside down? I always thought the angled cut off end goes up towards power head. 3. Was that a Missing bolt in the bypass cover?

Mike, I have a 10hp Johnson motor similar to the one in this video. I have a similar problem. My new impeller is pumping good water. However, when I put the linkage cover for the gear shift back on, the water stops pumping. As soon as I take the cover back off it pumps water again. Any advice?

What kind of drill bit head are you using for this? Love all your stuff, I'm having this issue with my 1958 18hp Evinrude currently. Just replaced the impeller

No drill bit just put drill on drive shaft thx good luck

I ran this test, it's the impeller not staying locked in the key. My driveshaft has about 1/4"-1/2" of play where it can go up and down. Do I need to get into the skeg or is this normal? I tried using another impeller key, had the same problem. Thanks for any link or advice you can share. The prop turns correctly based on shift position but I recently resealed the lower unit and am worried I forgot something. P.s. I purchased OEM impeller replacement and also tried slapping the old impeller back on. Tried 2 different plates as well. It just has trouble staying bit on the key, I think because the driveshaft is moving?

Hi T Mike, I have cooling issues on Johnson 18 HP 1957, I replaced the impeller, blow air in the powerhead, placed the lower unit in 5 gallon bucket after replacing the impeller and it pump water. While troubleshooting it I discovered that If I remove the Cover Plate of the Exhaust Tube Assembly, the engine cool properly, as soon as I place the cover plate back, I do not have to even place the two screws, the water stop coming out of the Exhaust Tube Assembly. Any idea where could be the issue?
