Great video! I had one of these, but the filth, creaking plastic and split hoses got very old. I have an upright Miele now. Nearly 3 years old, bag compartment still pristine, bags last forever, and it's as new ...downside? Very heavy, the Dyson so much easier to push. I have friends that sent their 2 Dysons to the landfill after they failed. They bought a Shark. Love it. You're a super cool guy, thank you for your videos. David in Seattle.

Late comment but i found out these earlier dc07s have much crappy cyclones as the earlier ones had smaller openings and were very loud. The later cyclones were wayyyy efficient.

Excellent video. You clearly know a lot of vacuums. Now this video is a good example how many people don't know even the most basic maintenance of the bagless vacuums. Filter maintenance is extremely important if you want vacuum to last. Who ever owns this vacuum clearly didn't look after the pre motor filter and that causes motor run hot and eventually go bad like this has. Now something that I don't understand is that how that pre motor got so dirty way way too quickly. Normally it's due to the blocked cyclones or bad bottom seal of the center tube. You clearly showed that it's not the case so I am confused.
@beko19878 жыл бұрын
I'm confused as well! I'm going to check the bottom cyclone seal though, someone else mentioned that too. Otherwise, im stumped!
@madabouthoovers97678 жыл бұрын
From what I could see, when you removed the cyclone top, there were at least 3, possibly 4 cones with the exits stuffed up with fluff - they may well be clogged inside the cones, causing severe airflow restriction - which will put strain on the motor and cause the thermal cutout to operate. Open the top of the cyclone assembly again and check each cone thoroughly from top to bottom - shove a long screwdriver down each one from the top and make sure that it is not full of trapped dirt. They often got clogged like this on the older models - newer ones were "de-rooted" which meant they cut the tops of the cones off lower down and made the holes at the top of the cones bigger, to prevent them clogging up. The motor sounded like it was being strained, but seemed OK with the cyclone bin off.
@beko19878 жыл бұрын
+MadAboutHoovers Ill give it a blow out later and try it. I think the motor damage is already done though, and with motors as cheap as they are Ill put one in anyway and they can have another 15 years out of it! I'll have it apart again later then!
@walruspolish3 жыл бұрын
If the motor isn't running at full power, the cyclones won't generate enough centrifugal force to separate the dirt properly, so the finer stuff will get to the filter quicker. That's why the pre-motor clogged up so fast. Motor must've been on its last legs.

Your videos are really helpful Sam and I love your "full on" screwdriver work. I'd be terrified of snapping the brittle Dyson plastic but you seem to get away with it! I've just done my first full refurb of a cheap Ebay DC07 Animal and it's come up a treat. Just needed the head hose replacing, a break with in the cable repairing and new filters plus a deep clean . Works a treat now although there is a high pitched whine I need to sort when it's upright using the wand with tools. Have you ever removed the 3 further screws within the cyclone unit in a DC07 to get inside the cyclones? Noticed on your walk through on MV you didn't go that far? Thanks again for the videos.
@beko19877 жыл бұрын
+Richard Mander Why thank your Richard! The plastics on dysons are fairly flexible, although not always! The 3 screws in an 07 cyclone do nothing as the housing is also welded together, so even if you remove them nothing happens! They are a handy source of screws though to replace stripped or rusty ones elsewhere!

I took my DC07 apart yesterday to clean it thoroughly. Putting it back together, everything seemed good, and I powered it on briefly, just a few seconds. Worked well. Today I turned it on, and nothing, no sound, no suction. Upon close inspection I realized I had twisted the brush belt when putting it all back together. I untwisted it and tried again. Still nothing. Any ideas? Am I screwed??

Hey Sam! Take the top of the cyclone top off, shine bright light against the side of the yellow cyclone cone and look into the cyclone itself. You'll see that the exhaust off the cyclone is blocked. You need like a wire coat hanger to unplug them, it's fiddly. I think over time these leads to the TOC becoming weakened too, so even if there is a free flow of air. They still trip. So replace that, unplug those cyclones and you're on to a winner 👍🏼
@beko19878 жыл бұрын
Yep, I checked the inner cones and they were proper plugged up! Luckily I had another yellow cyclone in the shed, so just swapped it over, and it instantly sounded better! The motor still overheated though, so a new one has been bought and itll soon be fighting fit! I won't do a motor fitment video though, theres enough of those on the net! Thanks for the pointers, its exactly what it was
@mrdn-kw5sg8 жыл бұрын
Happy to help. If you get a DC07 that lets fluffy dust through to the pre filter (dust that an 04 cyclone would separate) the cyclone exhausts are beginning to plug up.

My son has sucked up water and now my dyson dc07 not powering up anymore? Or is it worth repairing? It’s been sitting drying out for a month now plugged it in Nothing! Is it salvageable?
@beko19876 жыл бұрын
The first thing I would do is change the fuse in the plug (assuming your English with a fused uk plug?). Then turn it on outside and see what happens! Failing that a new motor isn't expensive, I have tutorials if it helps, is it a clutched or non clutched machine?
