First time ai have ever I’ve had this explained in all my years sewing. At school (50 years ago) we learned about tension but can’t recall being told how to fix the 2 different tensions. Didn’t even know you could adjust the bobbin!

Thanks for this Aneka. I would really appreciate a video on fine tuning the presser foot pressure according to different weights of fabric. I have a Bernina 550 and I don't feel I know enough about this topic to use it to full advantage. Thanks in anticipation. You explain issues with such clarity!

Thank you so much for all your invaluable help!! I'll be watching your other videos for sure!!! One of the nicest things, apart from your easy explaining/explanations, but I can also hear you!! I've found others where it's so frustrating because I can't hear what they are saying. Guess this worked well in your favor, lol. But again, thank you!!

Hi, my thread does keep coming out of the needle and I’ve tried what you’ve done, but it’s still not working and I am very confused. Is there anything else I should be doing? It’s normally 10 seconds into sewing when it comes out. Please help
@MadetoSew3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruby, hmm.... is it that your thread is breaking? As it seems odd that you can start sewing and then it happens. Does the machine create stitches to start with and then the thread comes out the needle? If so I think the thread might be breaking? Take a look at the end of the thread, does it look torn? If this is the case check you have threaded your machine correctly and that the thread isn't rubbing on anything (which is making it break). It might be worth changing the needle to check this isn't the issue. And I would also make sure you are using a good quality thread (Gutermann Sew All Polyester is what I use). As cheaper threads can break quite easily. Let me know how you get on? Aneka x

Hi, I downloaded all of your videos. But first I need to know if my sewing machine is working properly or not - I got the manual - and there are 2 places that may be broken; if it is not fixable...time to buy another sewing machine. 1) The pressure foot lifter in back of the machine - there is 'tension' when bringing the needle up; no 'tension' when bringing it down (altho the plate goes down verrrry slowly). 2) Take-up lever - I can barely move it and when I do, I need to get it out with a tool to bring it up... I'd like to start doing all the other things...but where do I go to find out if my machine is actually in tact and working properly. It's been awhile since I've used it! Thank you.

Hi Trudi, sorry to hear that you are having issues with your machine. You should be able to find a sewing machine shop locally to you? You want to find a technician, maybe search 'sewing machine repairs'? It might just need a good service and some tweaking, oiling to get it working again smoothly. Let me know how you get on.

Just a tip for people having issues with sewing not looking right even though tension has not changed since last sewing and ok. Use good quality brand cotton in bobbin and on reel. My problem solved!

Hi! Do you know how to fix the needle threader for the sewing machine? Mine suddenly stopped going all the way to the needle, i've just used this for 4 times.
@MadetoSew3 жыл бұрын
You might find the little wire thing that goes through the eye of the needle is bent? Or isn't going through the eye of the needle. If that is the case you can straighten it with a pair of pliers? You can also buy replacement needle threaders. Hope this helps?

Might be a stupid question, but do you have some sound filter on, or is that Bernina really THIS quiet? Amazing. Once again an excellent video, I enjoyed it throroughly!
@MadetoSew2 жыл бұрын
Hi András! Ha ha! It will be that quiet! I don’t adjust the sound. If you hear the sound of the machine and I am talking over it, I am not clever enough at editing to adjust the sound of the machine! 🤣 It is quiet compared to other makes and models. Aneka

If I want to learn to service the machine myself I'd like to know where I can get the tools and the service manual.
@MadetoSew6 жыл бұрын
Hi Malcolm, I have to say that I wouldn't know where to start. Most of the sewing machine dealers I know are family run businesses, they have been train to service sewing machines, I don't think there is a manual for it. And not all of these people are good, for example I had a lady with a sewing machine I had recommended call me up and tell me that it was broken. She had taken it to a chap who serviced it for her, it was just out of warranty and broken. I immediately phoned up the chap I used and spoke to him about it, he said bring it to me. In the end he has managed to get her a brand new machine, saying there was a fault in the machine itself, he is very very knowledgable, but I guess that comes with years of experience. If I was you I would contact a company or sewing machine dealer and ask if they would show you how to service your machine only, as this is surely less time than learning it all and maybe you could pay them to know how to service it? Just an idea? Aneka :-))

@MadetoSew Жыл бұрын
Is that the problem your having? It depends on what you are doing; check threading first, and needle and thread. If they are skipping in a jersey fabric try a stretch needle instead of a jersey or ballpoint needle.
