Life lessons of being an owner operator!! Understand your equipment and do the work your self if possible it irritates me when the other day I watch a guy bring his truck in to have the TA to check his tire pressure that costed 60 bucks, and a few months later says he can’t make it lol. I don’t think they understand the 1000’s of dollars of lost revenue per year in labor cost when it’s so simple. Thanks Ryan and good job!!

Try having company driver damage ground wire trying to fix a light that was working and cost $300 at a Pirate shop. Too many shops see an outside carrier in there home territory and see $$$

I've had some cheap alternators b4 had always alt problem, than I installed AC Delco CS130. Some modification require, one white wire goes to alt hot which goes to starter and to battery, 2nd white goes to the box to read voltage. It's all about diod board inside of alt. Do not buy cheap Alternator they do not stop charging the batteries. This is the catch. You need to replace volt regulator on ur old alt it will be like new if diot board is still good.

hi Ryan i have the same apu run for 5 to 10 minutes and shut down the alternator is pushing 13.9 volts, i just did apm with om parts and still doing that all fuses are good fans both working good, you have idea what else could be?

Very informative, I was wondering if anyone else has had to clean out dielectric grease, I thought it would help keep the salt and slime of winter, out of the areas I applied it to. Now it's clean, wipe, repeat....

It will, but it's an ablative measure. If it's anywhere that's exposed to the weather, you just have to clean it out occasionally. Silicone grease can work well for weatherizing, and WD-40 is good for spots that you can't get to with grease.

Is it possible for you to help me with my thermo king evolution apu that everything is working on it but I am having the alternator keep going up to 15.5v and then the apu shutsdown with red triangle and ALT code. I've done everything that you showed us on this video but none of those things were causing it please anything that you could think of would be greatly appreciated.I am a owner operator who has mechanical experience

Hey Ryan, what size wire do I need to connect directly from battery to sense voltage wire? There is no sense voltage at the connector on my APU. Fault showed low voltage or high voltage shut down.

Ive got the "legacy" tripac. Keep getting random run fine, then bat, sometimes alt. Can wiggle wires in battery box and it will work. Drive after usijg it and go through it all again. I think my battery cable terminal is bad and maybe the alt sensing wire where it connects to battery also. The terminals arent hard to change are they? Also the cable make like a hard U from where it comes in backside of battery box to the pos post of battery. Guess i should move it to another battery so its straight-ish?

Ok replaced my alt and all i get is bunk fan comes on runs for a few green snowflake never goes solid just blinks and tested all connections and replaced ground wire and checked fuses but after a few mins of the bunk fun running i get a red triangle alt fault unit never tries to start any ideas

I fixed my apu i shut off the valves cause it outa pressure om.thw water pump and irt starts leaking a year later I replaced 2 already so.i open them I'n summer or when.ever I go south

There is update for the red 250 amp fuse. They have an in-line fuse. That won’t corrode from the crap they put down on the roads in the winter. Need to ask Thermo King about it. It stopped all my problems. That fuse can also get loose from going down the road. The in-line fuse is hardwired in.

Hey I think you’re best person for APUs. I’m having issues with my comfort pro. Every time I turn it on it turns off leaving me with an oil code on the control unit. I have replaced the oil pressure sensor. The APU control unit. The wire. But the issue is still there and does not go away. Would you have any idea on what’s going on with this unit and where the issue might be? Your response is much appreciated

I have a tri pac evolution it turns on and run for about 5 minutes then turns off for a minute or 2 and turns back on and does this same thing all the time it is on. Is this normal, called thermal king they did not have and answer thanks.

That 120amp version that gave him trouble likely is TKING 45-2671 or similar. And usually the issue is to connect the additional F terminal to ground - if your application doesnt have or has a different Load controller. 😎

My 2016 thermo king died completely, no ppwer at the apu, the hour meter, notnpower in the fuse card under the bunk and no power at the controller. If this happens to you, check the 200Amp fuse at the battery. It's under a blqck square rubber cover. About $7 at autozone. It's a 13mm nut. Problem fixed

Your thermoking must’ve been trying to make money. Mine sold me the 120A alternator a few years ago. I called back when it wouldn’t work with my apu and a tech told me how to run a jumper wire from one bolt to another on that 120a that derates it to half its amperage. Worked for years til I started getting Alt codes recently

Got up under there and the ground is just caked w/ crudd. If you can clean the contacts with ur eyes closed you save yourself a world of hurt. Flip truck on side if helps. Thx 4 vid

Hi, Thanks for the video. My Thermoking APU once it kicks on will not stop, unless physically turned off. The invertor will be reading 13.4V. Current at 248Amp. I took it to three different Thermoking dealership got robbed but the problem still there. please help THanks

hello Ryan I have a tripac with 120 amp I can't get thing to make over 12.6 volts.i had the alt. tested and makes 14.2 volts on the bench.i looked at the wires at a lost help

Check the test ports in the panel, specifically the SEN and see what the voltages is. You may not get the sense voltage to the alternator.

I had the yellow triangle and then red triangle,run for 20 minutes or so. I'd restart the APU and it would run for 20 minutes and shut off. I was told by a thermo king dealer that i needed a new a/c compressor. Or freon is low. I let it go for some time. A friend of mine worked for that thermo king. And quit. I asked him what's the deal. He said 90% of the time, it's a ground or loose connection issue. I spent couple hours taking connectors apart, cleaning them, and reconnecting. After all connection cleaning, alternator connections, and major ground to frame, it fires up and works just fine

I WAS GETTING THE ALT CODE. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR SO I REPLACED IT. IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING IT RUNS FOR 2 TO 3 MINUTES AND IT SHUTS OFF GIVING THE SAME ALT FAULT CODE. WHAT COULD BE WRONG?

I’ve been suspecting that this is what’s going on with my apu too it comes on for a few minutes then turns right back off I’ve done swapped out alternators made sure it was the right volts cleaned all the grounds made sure there wasn’t any wires shorting out belts tight and I feel like I’ve done everything accept bust out the volt meter and check the wire harness I’ll check that first thing tomorrow morning and cross my fingers , these things are too damn tempermental

Man these APUs have so many problems you can just leave the truck running…. I have been in the shop more times for my APU than my truck it’s always having problems.
